Grave of the Fireflies, for sure. It just went downhill the entire time.

There are a lot of depressing things in a lot of anime, but that one takes the cake by far for me.

I prefer FSN as the final episode is so d@mn memorabe and very sad...

I would say Elfen Lied. It was the only series I have ever watched where I actually felt sorry for the characters. The last episode still almost makes me cry.

Kimi ga Nozomu Eien. Probably would be Grave of the Fireflies simply from the premise but I really don't want to watch something that sad.

Transformers the movie (the animated one, not the rubbish live action) The only time I've nearly cried at a movie.

Grave of the Fireflies is sad too.

That's actually not just sad, it's disturbing and the very last part is the least disturbing for me.

For me, it's Koi Kaze. The fact that I couldn't hate Koshiro despite how disgusting and wrong his relationship with his sister was... because you know he hated himself for it. He is just as disgusted as we are that he is having these feelings. The scene where he breaks down crying after smelling her underwear is INCREDIBLY raw and heart wrenching.

The ending, although it ends on a semi-happy note, you just know that their life together will be full of tragedy and heartbreak. There's no way they can ever have a normal life, and it's so sad, because you really can't help who you fall in love with. I've never had an anime pull at my heartstrings and make me feel nauseous at the exact same time.

Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien is good, eh? I've been meaning to watch it.

I'd say Elfen Lied, 5 Centimeters Per Second, or maybe Voices Of A Distant Star. Ef - A Tale Of Memories/Melodies both had insanely sad moments as well, but at least they ended well.

When ever I heard the opening song of After Story it brings the emotions back and I feel a little teary sometimes.
