I got bored half way through. 5/10.

The level of writing was pretty low quality in comparison with Togashi's usual stuff. Heck, some of the silly tropes they make fun of during the Green Island arc are played straight in this movie (like that little "hero saves distressed damsel" situation when Gon and Retz meet for the first time).

No wonder it wasn't included in the manga.

This movie was a massive disappointment. Story's absolutely forgettable and simplistic, something i'd expect from more generic shonen titles. Not to mention it rehashed plot points and developments already touched upon enough in the series (like Killua's "curse").
Oh , and the Retz twist was so predictable that it made Killua look dumb for not realizing what she was.

Omokage was a huge walking cliche, not to mention stupid. His ability should make him extremely powerful, since he could basically use any known skill from the other Ryodan members, but...all he did was fire Franklin's machine gun like a retard. And this is a series where people know very well how to handle their skills.
Speaking of which, the fights not only lacked the series' smartness, they were also very underwhelming and poorly choreographed, even if nicely animated. Nothing impressive, though.

Generic, typically uninspired shonen movie.

Yeah, this movie made me glad Madhouse isn't doing fillers. If this is the best they can come up with....

Although i just found out the script was written by Shoji Yonemura, whom i find a very mediocre writer at best, especially given his tokusatsu shows.

im very glad togashi didnt put this in main story. Its horrible.
flat.boring.stort seems forced.made me sleepy.predictable.not-so-good action-cliche-and so on.
the only good part was in epilog, when they showed us biske, ging and kaito

I am going to say it again. There is a humongous difference between a movie and a 20 episode arc.

Imagine if Yorkshin had been a movie instead. It would practically have been the same as Phantom Rouge.

I for one had wished that Togashi put this story in his manga.

EDIT: That being said I get the disappointed part, it's just the "Glad Togashi didn't put this in the manga" part I don't get.

That was pretty much your typical shounen movie, so very meh. Usually the highlights of these movies are the action scenes, but here they were very unimpressive and unimaginative. Didn't feel like Hunter x Hunter fights at all. They're usually much more strategic.

nope, i think it will be same even if this movie become tv series arc episode.
because, still, doesnt matter how much you add the additional scene / developtment, the main point / main plot of this movie is just bad, forced, plain, flat and so on.
epilog of yorkshin arc was already good as well as prolog of greed island arc, if they put in this horrible story in between those two arc....

well, all of this is just my personal opinion based on my personal taste, so you dont have to agree with my statement

Here's hoping it's better than Phantom Rouge. Most likely I'll be the last movie they'll do. By the it comes out HXH TV would nearing it's end, unless they plan on continue it with fillers....

SHINOBI-03 Senior Member Join Date: May 2012	Spoiler for Just saw the movie, here are my thoughts: First: to all those who try to fit it within the canon timeline. From my experience from anime movies, that's a pointless thing to do because these movies are not meant to be part of the series canon and therefore no need to analyze every bit of detail to find out where it fits. Second: The plot which is the important thing. Sadly, this was the weakest thing for me. Prior to the release, we were told the story will be focused on Kurapika and Omokage. But Killua's subplot felt shoehorned in and I didn't like how Killua turned "yandere" for Gon and being intolerant to the idea of Gon having other friends besides him. Didn't they make other friends over the course of the series? Did Killua have any problem with any of them? No. So why make him so jealous when he first met Ritz? It felt out of character to me. Sadly this subplot took over the main plot of the movie and therefore we didn't see much of Kurapika and his problem! Even the Spiders who were supposed to have a bigger role where reduced to mere extras and saw nothing of them beyond Nobunaga and Machi against the dolls. And because they were strongly ignored it made their "surprise" raid at the end really forced! Not even Omokage and the Ritz who were the main characters of the movie were focused on. So in short, Killua's subplot is what made the plot weak and derailed the movie from it. Third: The fighting scene were good, but if you're accustomed to Togashi's writing then you can tell if the fights were written by him or somebody else. Like the characters announcing their attacks. Obviously that's not what Togashi's been doing. There's also the mistake of making Uvo's Big Bang Impact an emitted attack instead of a destructive punch. Though it's not the first time someone made such a mistake. Fourth: Production. It's no surprise the animation is a tad different from the TV series, but there were a lot of moment that you can see how off-model it looks. Particularly on Gon! The second image is unforgivable! This is a big screen production and the long distance is not an excuse to draw something this weak drawing! And I don't know about you guys, but am I the only one who thought Ritz's eyes looked like they were drawn by Ume Aoki? And the animation was sub par and wasn't the animation of a movie and was more like the typical animation of a TV episode! So to conclude, the movie isn't outright terrible, but these issues affected it strongly and the movie may have gotten better if it wasn't for them. 7/10
