For the last time, the Jaegers do have offensive weaponry. The trailer just didn't show any. Gispy Danger, Crimson Typhoon, and Striker Eureka have plasma based weapons and missile launchers.

Yeah this isn't Gundam where the weapons are handheld, everything is built into the unit itself.

I'll assume the third in the Chinese model is the political officer (and for the third arm).

It seems like they are actually calling the mobs kaiju. Odd word choice imho, not that many people in the general public know what a kaiju is, then again, that could be why they chose it.

Like their military, huh ?^^. I suspect the third arm is actually a cannon or a smaller Jaeger that can separate itself from the main mech in case of emergency.

I hope one of those Jaegers have a chest blaster or a drill

They did hired a human. They hired Ellen McLain, a.k.a the voice of GLaDOS.

Impossible. For reasons that are obvious the Chinese army restricts military positions in the party to lower ranks. In any case they serve more in an administrative position.

I'm assuming that there's a lot of work that goes into choosing pilots and they don't just pick anybody (hence why humanity's final hope lies in an untested pilot and a washed out one).

If I recall correctly the Crimson Typhoon also is a new Jaegar that utilizes a 3-arm combo attack.

On that matter has anyone been able to translate the Russian, Japanese and Chinese notes on what their weapons are exactly?

I dunno if it's just me but the Russian Jaegar's head reminds me of this guy

Spoiler:

Spoiler:
A bit I suppose, for me though I see bit of Big Fau (from Big O) in Jaegar. Probably because the head has that flat top.

Also Gipsy Danger reminds me bit of Tetsujin 28 fx.

I say the two arms are to grab the monster while the third is to poke its eye.... unless it has no eyes...

Seriously, this will be one of the most anticipated movie next year!

The big arm on the Chinese Jaeger is supposedly a freaking PLASMA CANNON, so yeah, I doubt eye-poking is in order here.

So we know that the Jaegers will be controlled by imitating the pilots physical movements and what not. But how will the pilots use the offensive weapons like the plasma guns and missiles?

Voice commands? Might be a decent excuse to shut out attacks.

It'd make more sense to have both arms in the normal place rather than on just one side but we'll have to see how it works out in the movie.

Their hands have some sort of holo discs which I'm assuming carries commands for whatever they plan to do.

I wonder if the "two pilot" scheme is a variation on the old nuclear launch code/key arrangement where two (or more) officers were required to fire a nuclear missile. Even bombers have a variation on that arrangement.

One man in a Jaeger could be "god" (cue evil laughter). Two is a safeguard against that.

From the looks of the trailer, the two pilots have to synchronize their movements when walking, and then since the human brain is divided into two hemispheres (with completely different functions on each half), one of them have to do which hemisphere is supposed to function.

If they are neurally synchronized, isn't that effectively having one person?
