Your second picture doesn't work although I know what page you're talking about because I've re-read this series way too often.

However, I don't think using a facial expression from a future chapter is really that important. It's not like this is an animated scene or anything, it's just concept art to show the kinds of expressions they make. I mean, she makes similar expressions in other chapters, maybe they just liked that angle?

But, we probably can rule out the chances of being only 12 or 13. Can probably be up more than 24, thinking positively can follow the same path Sket Dance, Gintama or Fairy Tail. At least the Gainax think so, I guess.

No, we can't. We can't rule out anything. Having a facial expression from a later chapter does not mean they plan on animating that chapter. Frankly that logic makes no sense at all. It's not like the picture is an animation cel or anything. It's just concept art.

But it's hope . It's better than nothing. Medaka Box has everything to be a good anime. Deserves to be the level of Nurarihyon no Mago, at least. (two seasons with 25 episodes.) If anime, goes up in the series, it is quite likely.

I don't know why Gainax are doing it that early, but they've already updated the site with the information on the fourth episode (story/staff/characters). They've got 2 (!!!) Animation Directors for this episode, so I think they'll animate the fight properly.
(actually I've made fun of this number - for example only 3 episodes of Guilty Crown has had 1 Animation Director, and the 19th had the most - 7 Animation Directors)

I don't think having two directors is better than one. Wouldn't they just get in each other's way? Well, I suppose given the format of the series they could each work on a different half at the same time, but they certainly wouldn't make any particular scene better by having two. Too many cooks spoils the soup and all that.

Well the 19th ep of GC was really a feast for my eyes, so I don't think so. On the other hand it's the more issue with the Key Animators - but I don't keep track of them.

There's a very good read on what animation directors do , a post by Cindy H Yamauchi who's worked a lot at Madhouse and recently been the animation director of the first episode of Sakamichi no Appolon.

She brings up what you pointed here:

Most television shows have anywhere from four to six Animation Directors (sometimes more when the deadline gets extremely tight), and unfortunately, they don't necessarily draw or time out the animation in a similar way. To give the show or film a more consistent, uniform look, the chief animation director (sou sakuga kantoku or sou sak-kan for short) is responsible for overseeing the Animation Directors.

So even if there's more than one they're still working under a chief that oversees the whole thing.

If there's an action sequence then maybe someone was brought in to oversee just that

The Animation Directors are usually assigned based on their particular skills and specializations. Easy ones to categorize include mecha and/or effects specialists, creature specialists and action specialists.

Since you brought up that vid,part 4 deals with Imaichi who used to work at gainax,while he's not working on this show his style mentioned in that vid popped up a bit in episode 3 when the punk got taken down.

Finished watching episode 4.

The first half is a continuation of the previous episode : it parodies the typical sport manga cliché where Zenkichi gets beat first multiple times by Akune but he is determined to defeat him thanks to Medaka's support from him. The second half is about a tomboyish girl with extreme physical strength who makes lot of mistakes, but Akune encourage her not to make more mistakes anymore thanks to her long homework with many physical manual books. Next episode will be about Kikaijima. Other than that, Medaka Box is a anime that make the main characters supporting bad students to do something good and healthy. To me, it's a pretty good idea to unleash something educationnal by giving more sense like courage, justice, friendship, love and health. Because of real-life bad students making so much nonsense in today's standards, I find it very sad and it's seriously a trouble to me (I suffered like that in the past). In a world where the person's perfectness didn't exist, I always want children to give more support and goodness, but they also show their strongness and their weakness, even though I always want them to give happiness to their relatives and dear persons. I really brings joy of happiness when watching : this show proves me to give happiness, miracle and a good system of scolarity to everyone.

It depends on the reason for assigning more than one animation director. As totoum pointed out, some people are brought in for a particular specialty.

However, in other cases, multiple directors are assigned because of tight scheduling. To meet a deadline, work on an episode is divided and sourced to different places, with each segment requiring a separate animation director. The Chief Animation Director is tasked with stabilizing character art, but there isn't always enough time to do it right (new trend = multiple Chief Animation Directors).

I forgot how much I detested early series Akune~ xD Overall I found the episode rather 'meh', but I liked the scene at the where Akune helped the girl writing her Love letter~ I thought it was done rather well
