Now that you mention it, I'm not sure how she even managed to fight him off so well when he seems to be an expert swordsman. But it seems pretty clear this show works on the rule of cool.

I wouldn't assume he's more of an expert than she is. He was a soldier so he probably started training as an adult, like most soldiers do. She, on the other hand, probably started training herself right after she ran away from her town seeking vengeance.

I don't think so. The synopsis for the show says they usually need some sort of surgery to implant the fairy core into humans. Maria seems to be special. Going by the preview, this is gonna be explained next episode.

Is he an expert swordsman, or just a wanker who thinks dual wielding swords makes him look cool and actually relies on his fairy to fight? While Ver is a real deal ninja who can survive bringing a knife to a gun fight.

It may be early to tell, but the results speak for themselves.

Very good first episode. The characters, background and music were excellent. When Free was running I appreciated that he wasn't leaning w-a-a-a-y forward (I hate that common anime device). They have lain the groundwork for some good characters and I hope they develop well. The only thing off was the end card with Marlya: her lower half looked like it was shrunk, but that fortunately has nothing really to do with the story.

This feel like Sirius the Jeager 2.0 with much less stellar animation and directing. I have to admit I'm a bit let down by the premiere after being hyped by PVs, but iI'm still intrigued enough to see where it goes, hopefully the rest of it will overcome my dislike of the subpar CG. Those snazzy uniforms look cool at least,

I'm pretty sure it counts not only for Maria, but for all people of Suna, and that may have something to do with the reason why their village was destroyed by the army of their own country (the banners of Kal-o are seen in the flashback).

The first episode was interesting, I liked the premise and the characters. Fighting scenes were pretty cool too.

Sirius was so... bland though, even if the action was tight. Hopefully there's some actual character depth this time around. I think its the same director as Jojo, but that could really go either way.

Don't forget Grimgar's author is also writing the script, tho you might not have seen that show.

Yeah, I agree on Sirius but as generic action anime that rely more on spectacle to sell itself than intricate plot it serve it as a solid show to unwind to.

Great action scenes. And the animation was decent enough. I don't mind the cg as I'm used to watching cg shows like Kemurikusa.

However... I don't care for any of the characters here except the friendly animal that licked the hand.

Dropped, but leaving it with a MAL score of 7/10.
