Can I get a hand?

My Windows 98 machine won't connect to the router after a fresh format and install [ was able to connect before ]

I use static IPs, not DHCP, and I have entered and triple checked that my entered IP, subnet, gateway and DNS are all correct.

I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong [ I hate Win 98 networking.. ]

anyone help?

Have you run the Internet Connection Wizard (ICW)?

Even though you already set up your TCP/IP stack correctly, you may still have to invoke ICW, and tell it that you are connecting via a Home Network (LAN), and not to set up any Internet Mail Services, Then Re-Check your TCP/IP settings just to be sure...

I've run into similar situations myself, and running ICW will sometimes give Win98's Networking the needed "Kick in the Butt", and clear up the problem...

I figured it out.

Between the installation of my ethernet adaptor, and my reboot.

Windows decided it would install dialup adaptors, I don't even have a dialup modem.

They were set as the primary means of connection.

Removing them screwed up my ethernet adaptors TCP/IP settings.

So I had to uninstall and reinstall the adaptor drivers.

Then I re entered all my IP, gateway and DNS info and now everythings working.

I have no idea why or how it installed the dialup adaptors...I don't have a modem, and I certianly didn't tell it to install one.
