Mai-Otome licensed by Bandai Entertainment

Since Bandai have licensed Mai Otome, AnimeSuki will no longer list torrents for it. In addition, the following posts are no longer allowed:
  • Asking where you can find Mai Otome downloads.
  • Providing links to Mai Otome downloads.
  • Discussing Mai Otome fansub groups (past or present).
  • Asking for help downloading Mai Otome
  • Asking for playback help for Mai Otome episodes.
These rules applies to fansubs (in English or any other language) and raws alike.

You still are allowed to discuss the anime, that has not changed, but please remember to limit the discussion to the story. This thread may be used to discuss aspects of the license.

Mai Otome Zwei has also been licensed as has Mai HiME back in 2005.

If a Mod notices anyone breaking these rules then expect to be banned from the forums. It's unlikely a warning will be given and do not expect to be notified, you will just be banned. Please use the Report button if you notice any of the above rules being broken.

Bandai has the license. I don't think they have it for Zwei though, as Sunrise seemingly considers that a seperate series and Mai-HiME Project is calling it their 3rd production.

No way...
How would they handle SergayxArika and especially SergayxNina?

Increase the girls' ages?
Tone down the romance?
Remove the romance parts altogether?

... What the hell? This is Bandai. They'd only put the episodes on DVDs, which means no edits.

Dunno if Bandai has edited ANYTHING yet...
Ohohoho, I'm going to enjoy some of the DVD extras though.

Inevitable that it would get licenced, just wondering when they're going to hit stateside.

Not yet licensed

Mai-Otome is still not licensed, because the torrents continue to be listed in the AnimeSuki group database.

According to xris, Bandai is on negotiations to acquire the license but had not reached a conclusive deal. Therefore, any incoming news about the licensing status will be dealt as rumors by the MODS, until Bandai officially announces that they have purchased the property.

Just freakin' great. Wonder who's voice over will kill the most ears of Mai Otome viewers.

Yup, that about sums it up.

AoD has this to say about it.

Bandai also showed a trailer for Mai Otome, but made it clear that they are still negotiating on a contract for the show.
So they clearly do not want to make it official yet so we will treat it as a rumour. While it's clear that Bandai have every intention to finalise the contract, we will wait until they give the nod it's complete.

Almost no one but 4kids edits anything these days. This isn't the 1980s when Robotech Frankensteins were made or even the 1990s when we got masterpieces like the Sailor Moon dub. Unless there's a genuine legal issue (licensing a song, for instance), no one changes anything these days, except toning down blood on TV versions (which Otome is unlikely to get, as no one's showing HiME).

That's what made me wonder, those girls are 15!
Didn't the law here forbid depictions of minors in "sexual situations"?
How are they going to get away with ep. 24 then?

Well, we now know that Sergay can't do girls to save his live, but back then...
Even I thought he had actually done it with Nina.

I'm an editor at Toon Zone, and yes, unfortunately that was an error by our reporter. I have confirmed with Bandai that the Mai-OTOME license is still under negotiation. My apologies for the mistake.

The article has been corrected.

Thanks for dropping by and updating the link. We wondered what happened to the earlier report (from an earlier post here)

I think Canada just upped it to 16 recently.

Though even if it goes on DVD directly, it's not exactly legal is it?

I say it is licensed cause they've had various videos of both HiME and Otome removed on places like Youtube. So I say its been licensed just not announced yet.

I'm not sure of other sites, but YouTube is in the process of scanning and trying to remove all Anime from their site (fan-subs included). Obviously, they are moving rather slowly and catching only a few, but I wouldn't base a license off of what's being removed from YouTube. I see a lot of anime being stripped off of that site.

But I do agree that it's only a matter of time before the license is announced. Negotiations like these can drag on for a while. Even if they have an agreement in principle, until all the financials are correlated, the license deal isn’t done.

Cheers.

Do note that Zwei is not mentioned. Currently, I would presume that it is not licensed (yet).

In that article they clearly say 26 episodes licensed, henceforth, My-Otome Zwei remains unlicensed for now.

In addition, expect the first R1 DVD release on June.
