342 pages? When this thread was just 40 pages I decided to take the plunge and read through it... but now, a couple of weeks later, this thread is monstrously huge!
I kind of wish there was an RSS feed of the latest greatest fanworks (fan art, voice overs, animation, fanfiction, rewrites, etc).
Congrats on the #1 haruhi thread.

I was wondering If I could join in on the fun, I would be a graphical artist guy and probably work with furyofthewolves on the covers and some other stuff.
Heres a quick incomplete mock of a possible cover:
Im usually a lurker but this project has grabbed my interest so much Im probably going to post a lot more now
You don't really need to set up too much of the quietness thing anyway. I mean, if they're in a public-ish location, you can just draw them... going at it... and Kyonko just needs to be, you know, muffled.
I feel dirty just thinking those thoughts, let alone writing them. I'm not cut out for this.
You guys get off topic with faaar too much stuff O.o

Hmm... EDITJOB?!
Spoiler for Remote Island Syndrome Part Seven EDITJOB:
I stared at the scene again, and really, I wanted to take a step back, try to make sense of what’s happening. But that won’t work will it? Because it’s so painfully obvious what has happen. Keiichi-san the bright and cheerful host which we’ve learned to appreciate had been stabbed, her dress now stained with blood. I wondered for a moment what I would have looked at, if Nagato hadn't saved me from Ryo. The silence within all of us is mutual, are we waiting for someone else to speak or just too afraid to say something ourselves. Wouldn’t it be a bit of both? Arakawa-san, the old maid had been standing in shock for all of this, she was the first to move forward to the body. She moved toward her lying mistress' side and checked her pulse and gave us a cool stern statement.
"She has moved on..."
As I heard her voice trailed off to silence I asked myself has she practiced this line before? It was recited so slowly and with such composure, and wasn’t it so obvious? Perhaps we were all waiting, hoping for something better like “She’s alive” or “Thank god, someone call an ambulance quick!” couldn’t you have given us a little bit more hope, at least let us pretend that the woman known as Keiichi-san was still alive if only so that she could die surrounded by people who cared about her?
I had gripped the door frame and pulled myself up. Koizumi gave me an uneasy face, but pulled herself up quickly. She was silently doing this, never leaving sight of our former host. Perhaps a personal sentimental that I couldn’t understand? Koizumi went towards Keiichi-san and knelt by her opposite Arakawa-san, she stared at the lifeless body and her bitter expression was probably just a fraction of the sadness that she felt; watching her generous relative lying motionless on the floor.
Koizumi's voice carried a tint of sadness,
“We should leave, we’ve disturbed the crime scene for too long.”
As she said this; her face and tone reminded me nothing of the once cheerful and anxious girl who had ranted about a murder mystery only hours ago.
"Mitsuuru-kun, are you alright?"
Haruki asked, as he turned his face towards the downed upperclassman. Asahina-san stared at our brigade chief with both disbelief and regret. He didn’t really want to answer, his mind was probably preoccupied about why this would be happening at all. Haruki frowned as he stared at Asahina-san’s face.
“Do you need help to get up Mitsuuru-kun?”
As he offered his outstretched hand, Asahina-san shook his head slowly and pulled himself up. As he took a final look at the scene he had turned and moved into the hallway. Haruki soon followed him slowly, he didn’t turn his head. for once his sense of calmness and sense of shame was apparent, perhaps that meant somewhere inside his happy-go-lucky heart had hid itself from the world.
“Yuuki, let’s go alright?”
Has Haruki ever had such a quite voice? I had always imagined that he couldn’t say anything much without amplifying it so that anyone could hear it. No, I shouldn’t be asking those types of questions at this type of situation. As I watch them leave on their own slow paces, Koizumi getting up to leave as well, she didn’t look at me and only walked slowly in a half-dazed way.
“Come out soon alright Kyon?”
I stared at the scene again. Mori-san had been standing where he was for quite a while, as he gone to Arakawa-san’s side they both paid their respects to their former master. They would stand back up in unison Arakawa-san going out first while Mori-san had looked on me with a nearly teary eyes.
“We should go, I’ll help you to your room.”
Up till now Yutaka-san still remained missing while the storm outside continued. The rain pelted the windows gently while the occasional thunder boomed followed by the flashing lights. But it’s happening again and again, have we gotten used to it, or rather are we more focused on the sudden terror we had just experienced? I had entered my room to find Koizumi waiting there for me.
"Hey Kyon.” she said, “Don’t you wanna talk about what just happened?”
"What do you mean?" I asked. Koizumi's normal smile suddenly returned to her mouth.
"Haven't you realized? This is now a genuine closed circle."
That was obvious, you had explained that to me a while ago. Besides wasn’t it a closed circle hours ago? When this typhoon had began?
"This looks like a murder."
It doesn’t look like a suicide, but does it have to be? I still want to believe that we are all innocent.
"Besides, the room was totally sealed off."
“Are you sure?”
I asked her. She gave a nod
“We can go check if you want to make sure, but all the locks were clearly locked.”
She had explained to me that the locks on the windows required two levers to be pushed down or something else, I didn’t really question the authenticity of her testimony. she wouldn’t need to lie, and I would check the room if I could later anyways.
"Does it make sense that the suspect commits his act and leave safely in a room that can't be accessed at all?"
No it doesn’t make sense, but neither does this whole situation at all. Couldn’t you just skip the questions and tell me what you think? I doubt this is a time to be smiling off everything and playing around. Why don’t just go off and question the suspect yourself?
"You're right," Koizumi agreed with me, "We'd better ask Yutaka-san about this."
"Please wait at Suzumiya-san's room first, I'll be coming over as well later."
I watched her move out of my room and stared at the ceiling idly. “Wait at Haruki’s room eh? Doing that just makes everything make sense doesn’t it?” am I saying this to myself, or rather am I trying to pray to some all powerful deity in the sky? Either way no one is answering me.
I knocked on the door.
"Who is it?"
"It's me."
The door opened slightly, Haruki open the door slightly, on his face still lingered the recently obtained sadness.
"Where's Koizumi-chan?"
“She isn’t here yet?”
He gave a sad shake and invited me in.
Asahina-san laid on one of the beds motionless opening up his eyes for a few seconds and closing them as in deep thought. Beside him was Nagato-san, his presence didn’t provide any sense of comfort but no doubt his mere presence meant the security of the location. Please, take care of us Nagato-san I can’t really depend on anyone else right now.
"Hey, what do you think?"
Haruki said, was he talking to me?
"Think of what?"
"I mean Keiichi-san's death. This is a murder incident, right?"
If you look at it in one way it would seem like it. Keiichi-san had no reason to kill herself to us the few days we’ve spent with her seemed cheerful and full of the desire to live life to the fullest. But a murder happening inside a sealed room in an island trapped in the middle of a storm had seemed so unrealistic. It was too elaborate, no one could really plan this out and perform the required complex and perfected procedures, could anyone be capable of doing something like this?
"Yea, I guess it is.."
A moment of silence, making me ask myself “This again?” do we really have nothing to say. As if just to break this silence Haruki opened his mouth,
"Hmm......"
Haruki closed his eyes for a second and sat on the bed, the suddenness shook Nagato-san and Asahina-san slightly. He rubbed his temples as if in deep thought.
"How can this be? I never expected things to develop this way."
He had said to himself. Shouldn’t I be saying that? After all weren’t you the one who was anticipating this for the whole trip? The person that wanted something to happen instead of just enjoy what was already happening?
"But, I never thought it would come true!"
Haruki made an angry face but quickly changed his expression. Was he worried about someone commenting on how he was acting? Or was he afraid of seeing of looking at the expression he just made?
I stared at Asahina-san who stared at the ceiling with wide eyes.
"He’s been like that for a while, when I asked him if he was alright he just told me that needed to think, I never thought he would blank out like this.”
Haruhi told me. Asahina-san closed his eyes again, while Nagato-san stared at the wall.
A sealed room murder incident on a lone island within a storm. Would this ever happen for a second time? No should it have even happen the first time? Is it because we’re the SOS brigade and not some Occult Study Group, or Mystery Novels Association? Searching for mysterious events is exactly the reason Haruki founded the SOS Brigade, so in truth, encountering this kind of incident perhaps embodies the founding principles of the SOS Brigade. Of course, it's a whole different story when we're actually experiencing it. This had exceeded all expectations; to our dismay. Couldn’t we just be left with the happiness that filled our hearts the last few days ago?
"Man, this is so frustrating......"
Haruki leaped off the bed and started to pace around the room
He had reminded me of a child who had pulled a prank which had gone too far and found himself in more trouble than he intended. Was this more problematic for him than for me? Was he more surprised than me? What happen to that anticipation Haruki? Did it float away just after you found out that it shouldn’t have been there at all? I begin asking myself “What should we do?” but rather shouldn’t I be asking “Can we do anything?”
I lay myself on the empty bed, I turn my face to see the dazed Asahina-san and the still Nagato-san. I wanted to escape this reality. This quite scene interrupted routinely by the sound of Haruki’s feet. This would be complete if not for one thing.
“I wonder where she is.”
“Koizumi-chan? Didn’t you say she would be waiting here for you?”
“Yea, but she’s late, she’s been late for too long.”
“We should go look for her. We just can’t stand by idly.”
He said this somehow with a matter-of-fact voice, but his eyes reminded me of that which would appear after being challenged by someone. Yes, brimming with determination our brigade chief declared,
"I need to confirm something. Kyon, come with me."
I really don't want to just leave my little brother alone here.
"Yuki's here as well, so don't worry! Yuki, have the door locked, and don't let anybody in, you understand?"
Nagato-san stared at us both and nodded calmly.
"Understood."
He replied without change of voice, his unfaltering mind and tone reminded me that he wasn’t a human and Keiichi-san might have been a string of number for him. Though I’m not sure that he would so heartless to be like this. But I can’t really say that can I? After all I’m not sure if he has a heart in the first place. His colourless eyes reached mine and he gave me a slight nod as if only I could see it.
I felt calmed somehow though, nothing bad could happen to us right? After all Nagato-san wouldn’t let us walk into a dangerous situation without informing at least me about it. I told myself that everything was alright, reminding myself about Nagato-san reliability in spite of any danger.
"Let's go, Kyon."
Haruki grabbed my wrist, though his grip was slightly weaker than before.
"Just where're we going?"
"To Keiichi-san's room, of course! I didn't observe it closely just now, so I need to check again."
I remember the scene again. Keiichi-san lying on the floor with a blood stained knife in her chest, the crimson red liquid spread across her dress. This wasn’t a scene that would be appreciated with more viewings.
Haruhi walked and said,
"Then, we need to find out where Yutaka-san is. She may be still in the building, besides......"
In such a serious situation, nothing could really explain his absence, only two things really come to mind.
I was dragged by Haruki, who climbed the stairs and said,
"Either Yutaka-san is the killer and has escaped the scene; or Yutaka-san is also a victim......right?"
"Yeah, but if Yutaka-san isn't the killer, then it'll become troublesome."
"No matter who did it, it's all annoying for me......"
Haruki looked at me diagonally,
"Kyon, in this mansion, besides the Tamaru brothers, there's only Arakawa-san and Mori-san left, and the five of us. Could the suspect be one of them? I don't want to suspect my own brigade, and I don't want to hand them over to the police."
He sounded very calm saying that. He really did care about us and trusted us, though I’m not sure if it would be under sincere kindness or rather because of his Brigade chief principles. Asahina-san could never commit a murder, Nagato-san would have just removed Keiichi-san so that she never existed at all. But when I though of Koizumi, this happy girl, I still couldn’t figure it out. She would have no reason right? She said Tamaru-san was her distant relative, compared to total strangers like us, she seemed so much closer to her than us, maybe something that we wouldn’t know about?
"No."
I knocked my head softly.
Koizumi had never struck me as anything along the lines of insane murderer, she wouldn’t do something as stupid as committing a murder just to satisfy the conditions for a closed circle. She wasn’t an idiot and of course not a murderer. She wouldn’t act like that all.
We don’t need anyone else with a strange thinking pattern, after all we have Haruki. Though by just looking at this situation, I can’t really confirm that with such confidence now, unlike the days that were before this dreadful night. I’m asking myself “Is this really happening?” I wonder which part of me is still hoping?
A couple of minor him/her gender edits, added a bit of Kyon having flashbacks to Ryo's attack, and trying to fix one plot-point - it seems a lot more out of character for Kyon to be so overly worried about Mitsuuru's wellbeing. Original Mikuru is next to completely physically helpless compared to original Kyon, but Kyonko wouldn't be physically stronger than Mitsuuru (probably). Given that, there wouldn't exactly be the same protective feeling that Kyon has towards Mikuru. So I changed it to Kyonko's little brother (I forget what the japanese name for that is, though :/). She'd definitely be protective over him.
Alternatively, you could have Mitsuuru offering to go out on his own to help look for Itsuko, but THEN Kyonko worries about his safety and tells him to stay where he is, with Yuuki.
Spoiler for miniedit:

"Ah, wait! I'll help search!" Aah, Asahina-sempai, it's a nice thought, but it's dangerous to go alone, and I didn't want to leave my little brother alone.
"Could you stay here and protect my brother? Please? Yuki, have the door locked, and don't let anybody in, you understand?"
Either cut one of the costumes, cut a page here and there with the various costumes (or part of the story... with some reorganization a page could possibly be cut) or, the best/hardest option, add more pages
We have approximately 15-12 pages for 6 (?) costumes. But the clubroom scene should have more then average, since it'll be one of the more important scenes.

You just need her leaning against the wall with one hand covering her mouth. And if you need to go further from there, Kyon can forcibly kiss her to stop her from moaning out loud.

I still can't imagine Kyon being that rough......
I admit that I am conservative when it comes to hentai stuff.
I admit that I am conservative when it comes to hentai stuff.
Not exactly being rough. Its more like Kyon did that cuz unless he stopped her from yelling out, people would notice and she/he probably won't live it down.
Situation probably can be compared to an ecchi version of the 'snow white' incident.

No, of course, I totally agree with you there. I'm just saying that there's still no working logic to it.
H stuff requires shortcuts.
And when it's a Haruhi related doujin, Yuki is generally the shortcut of choice xD Or in this case, the Nagato's.
They can make anything sound plausible, including the fact that pseudo-fraternal twins must have sex in various locations while wearing various cosplays for the sake of the universe.
Have I ever mentioned how awesome Yu/uki is?
Edit: I also tried to take care of character traits. Another thing that a lot of h-doujins do is go completely out of character

Great Success!
Well, finally managed to finish what I was trying to accomplish, a menu to be able to choose which volume and which chapter, and have it easily modifiable. The menu itself is dynamic, no worrying about having to regenerate all the volumes/chapters/whatever.
To add a chapter to the visual novel engine, you simply would add an entry to the v1Chapters/v2Chapters/whatever variable, I kept it simple with Chapter1/Chapter2/whatever, I might go in and try go modify it to be able to have different chapter names in the menu. And you would have a different rpy file that you could stick that particular chapter's dialogue inside of, have a label vx_Chapter1_intro in the top of it, and when you, the player, clicks that particular button, it will go right to that chapter, so adding chapters is pretty dang simple now.
I put in lots of bogus chapters just to check that the style worked and everything, it's a simple menu at the moment, though I could do various things to it if I wanted to. Something like 6-8 hours later, of reading through python docs/renpy docs, it's for the most part complete, as far as the logic inside of it. I was initially going to have a huge mess of code with entries for each chapter, that you would have to copy and paste and everything, but I knew I could do better than that.
A little rusty at programming, so took a little while to remember a lot of the concepts, and I've never tinkered with python before, so a lot of the constructs were just slightly different. But, hey, it works! . I currently have the game resolution at 1024x640, which is a 16:10 resolution for a 1024x768 monitor. I figured that most everyone should be able to do at least 1024x768 by now, though if that needs to be changed let me know, better to change it now than later and have to resize all the images. Anyway, a pic of the menu, as well as the python code in case you so desired to look at it:
python:
ui.text( "Please select a Novel Volume and Chapter", xalign=0.5, yalign=0.05, size=42, style='default' )
while True:
ui.hbox(xalign=0.1, yalign=0.15, yanchor='top', xanchor='left')
ui.vbox()
for i in volumes:
ui.textbutton( "Volume " + i, clicked=ui.returns( i ) )
ui.close()
if volumeSelected != "":
ui.vbox()
for i in range( int(volumeSelected) - 1 ):
ui.null(height=30)
for i in vXChapters:
ui.textbutton( i, ui.jumps( "v" + volumeSelected + "_" + i + "_intro" ) )
ui.close()
ui.close()
volumeSelected = ui.interact()
exec 'vXChapters = v%sChapters' % volumeSelected]
