Pretear~

What do you guys think of the manga Pretear? I've only read through the first volume but it's pretty good so far. I just wanted to know other's opinions, maybe we could aruge sensibliy about it? ^__^ That's my past time.

I'm enjoying the anime of Pretear so far. I was wondering, does anyone think the manga will be brought to the US? I mean, I can try searching for the actual Japanese version, or Chinese version, but I am really bad at reading both.

I know that ADV is starting to bring out mangas along with their anime, such as Full Metal Panic. I was just hoping that the manga for Pretear would come too, since I've been hearing that the manga goes a little beyond the anime.
So, anyone wanna help me?

Pretear's one of the mangas that I follow and it gets better and better. Yeah, the manga goes into more detail than the anime which leaves a lot of stuff out. The character styles are slightly different too. Plus, gotta love the purtay pictures.

Before it was licensed I watched and finished all of the Pretear anime in fansubs by March 2002, and I love it because the main characters were having issues, tribulations, and motivations that made them very human believable.

Pretear restored my faith on the mahou-shoujo genre when it was previously crushed upon the junk that was Corrector Yui.

Two years later I bought ALL of the R1 DVDs and watched the dub in my DVD player, taking my time rewatching the series dubbed each weekend.

After that I started to focus my efforts on finding the manga and did so in fan scanlations approximately two months before the manga became licensed as well.

Another two years later (2006) I was able to find and buy the first two volumes of the manga in the B. Dalton Bookstore but for the remainder of the year I was not able to localize the last two manga volumes.

When I received my first credit card on late-December 2006 I purchased the last two volumes via Amazon and got them shipped really fast in about four weeks.

During this week I received the last two volumes and read through them all today.

I found out that both anime and manga share the same core plots but went to different directions each one of them. because the anime had introduced two plot devices that were original and nowhere to be found in the manga, which made some plot twists downgraded from the manga to the anime, and other some upgraded from the manga to the anime.

Spoiler:

1. For example, in the anime there's a lot of focus and insight about Mawata' issues of loneliness which Fenrir conveniently had Sasame to take advantage of so to activate the Tree of Fenrir.

In the manga, Mawata is jealous of Himeno because the latter gets all the attention that the former desperately seeks so for anyone else to understand her. Himeno, as White Pretear, opened her heart to Mawata to make her understand she was also as jealous as her because thought also nobody else wanted her.

2. In the anime Shin cannot merge with Himeno because he's the Knight who activates the barrier spell to prevent the battles against the demon larva from escalating into the real world. However, in the very last episode, the Plant Pretear makes a very brief and fast cameo appearance.

In the manga Shin and Himeno do merge and does the Plant Pretear appears but only once, because after they separate Shin dies afterwards. This is because Shin is too young to Prét with the Princess Pretear.

It's interesting to note that in the anime Go explains that Shin's power to seal demon larva or erecting the barriers is not eternal. Therefore, this could imply as well that Shin possess a limited Leafé span that barely allows him to cast the spells, but he cannot Prét with Himeno because doing so will result in his death.

3. In the anime it is only Mawata who Fenrir extracts her soul of loneliness to harvest the Tree of Fenrir, and the tree itself has encased Mawata from within. Himeno's family all join the climax battle to rescue Mawata.

In the manga, however, Fenrir's spirit makes a puppet of all the servants and Mayune at the Awayuki mansion to hold a grudge against Himeno. Natsue is possessed as well by Fenrir's ghost because she feels jealous of Himeno due that Kaoru concerns more about Himeno's safety than tending to Natsue.

Of course, Himeno saved everyone. Mawata was not possessed and once Himeno healed her heart, she asked Himeno to be allowed to come with her so that both will save Natsue.

Mayune was unconscious and did not take part in the last confrontation against Fenrir-Natsue. Kaoru did not get himself involved either, because at the start of chapter 17 he left the Awayuki manor without telling Natsue.
He did so to write again another novel for Natsue and by the end of the manga he returned to Natsue with his new novel already published.

4. In the anime Fenrir escapes her crystal prison in Leafénia. She sucks all of Leafénia's leafé with help of Sasame's treason to the knights. And attempts to destroy the world having the Tree of Fenrir, powered by Mawata's distressed soul, drain the Earth's leafé.

In the manga Fenrir never escapes from her prison in Leafénia, but her spirit causes red snow to fall over the Earth and spreads the demon larvae. Her spirit posseses the people who are closest to Himeno at the Awayuki manor by turning them into puppets.
Natsue is turned into a puppet vessel for Fenrir's spirit and has a giant blizzard of red snow to engulf all of Earth to drain the world's leafé.

5. In the anime Sasamé fell in love with Takako but got hurt because she already loved Hayate, and he never spoke of his feelings toward her when Takako was the Pretear.
Once Mikage was revealed as Takako (Fenrir), Sasame snapped and declared his feelings to Takako, and he later betrays the Knights just for Fenrir (Takako).

In the manga Sasame never was in love with Takako, and indeed he does falls in love with Himeno, and just like his anime counterpart, he became hurt witnessing how Himeno was falling in love with Hayate while he was not able to confess his feelings to her.
However, Sasame overcame that frustration and became more assertive; he remained faithful to both Himeno and the Leafé Knights. By the end of the manga, he subtly alerts Hayate that he has not given up on Himeno and one day plans to confess his feelings to her.

6. In the anime Sasamé dies protecting Takako (purified) from the wrath of the Tree of Fenrir.

In the manga it is Shin who dies right after prétting with Himeno.

However, both are resurrected at the end thanks to the Leafé snow of the White Pretear.

7. In the anime Himeno mostly deceives herself putting up a smiling attitude on the outside, but from within she's hurt that nobody wants her. This is made worse when as the Pretear she learns that Takako, the previous Pretear, became the Princess of Disaster due to jealousy and loneliness. For the first arc Himeno becomes terrified of being the Pretear, because she fears to end on the same fate as Takako and consume the world in desolation and hatred.

In the manga Himeno never tries to be enthusiastic and bumbling in the outside to others, as she does in the anime. She's practical but not overly realistic, but as her anime counterpart she also fears that nobody in her new family loves her, and this fears lingers on her throughout most of the manga.

When Mayune was made a puppet and attacked Himeno, Himeno let out her dark thoughts and jealousy that she truly wished hurt for Mayune but immediately realized what she felt.

The anime and manga tends to be out a bit.... But the idea is still the same. Too bad that they could have made the anime longer...

I like the intro song... Especially towards the chorus part...

As for the manga, Not too bad. The pictures are nice , The characters are well drawn .... The storyline ..... hmmm a bit expected... hehe
