Comedy anime recommendations?
Want some good, humorous anime.
Some that I've watched: Minami-ke (all 3 seasons) Lucky Star (Meh, didn't enjoy too terribly much) Nichijou (This is airing now, and is a favorite thus far) FMP: Fumoffu! Kyou no Go no Ni Excel Saga Seitokai Yakuindomo Seitokai no Ichizon Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru (Another favorite) A broad selection, but plenty of leg room. I don't really mind 'dark humor' dirty (or what you may call ecchi) humor, random humor or slapstick, it's all generally good in my book. Well as long as it's not the 'they tried so hard it's completely not funny at all' type of funny. I appreciate it greatly!

You will enjoy Shinryaku Ika Musume, Muteki Kanban Musume, maybe if you are looking for dark humour or ecchi, Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, Desert Punk, GTO and Maria Holic. All these are genuinely funny without any random humour like Lucky Star.

A Channel has been considered to be something of a rehash of Lucky Star (I think so, anyway); make of that what you will. I haven't watched the anime (nor have I watched Lucky Star for comparison) but I have read the manga, and while it's not great by any means it should suit what you're looking for just fine.

Azumanga daioh: the "classic" which started the whole wave of cute girls in school animes
Level E: Sci fi comedy with one of the best troll characters ever Sora no Otoshimono: Echi comedy Ika musume Ore no Imouto : there's a bit of drama but it's really the comedy that I preffer, especialy in the latter episodes Ghost stories (the english dub) : the english dub doesn't follow the original japanese script and does it's own completely politicaly incorect thing Panty and Stocking: definatly not for everyone, full over toilet humour.

These cover a broad spectrum of comedy:
School Rumble - definite contender for funniest high-school comedy ever Higepiyo - Japanese family adopts a talking chick with samurai aspirations Moyashimon - "campus hijinks" story about a college freshman who can see microbes Welcome to the NHK! - dark psychological satire about "NEETs" ("not in employment, education or training") Nodame Cantabile - romantic comedy set in a college-level conservatory; wanna-be conductor meets wacky pianist Oh! Edo Rocket - anachronistic comedy set in 1843-44 Edo (Tokyo); a mysterious young woman asks a fireworks maker to build her a rocket to the moon

Cromartie High School- it has really bizarre humor and scenarios delivered in a deadpan manner. For example, it has a character who's obviously a robot but nobody, including himself, seems to realize this and the smartest character in the series is a gorilla.

Maybe B Gata H Kei, or MM!?; Both on are a similar type of humor as Seitokai Yakuindomo, so chances are you could enjoy them, though B Gata H Kei has a bit more romance in it.
A more bizarre series, but Bakemonogatari is one of the most funny series I've seen , it does have a story and romance, but the comedy is what really made the show great. I'll second the The World God Only Knows, it's really great at times and not random based. A Channel is honestly more like K-On than Lucky Star in terms of comedy[though it does have more comedy per episode than K-On so far], so I am not sure if you'd enjoy it, but you could give a it try.

Eleven replies to the original post, and no one even mentioned Mitsudomoe, that show is truly unappreciated.
Disclaimer: there's something that may put you off in the first two episodes, if you manage to go past those it becomes much better. It has a second season too. Comedy + Art = GA: Geijutsuka Art Design Class Comedy + Ecchi = Midori no Hibi , stunningly hilarious. Comedy + Sport (Kendo) = Bamboo Blade Comedy + Vampires = Karin Classy Comedy = Ichigo Mashimaro Long Running Comedy = Hayate no Gotoku , it has a second season as well. A movie and a third season are on their way. Of the above mentioned, seconding A-Channel (though if you haven't liked Lucky Star and are liking Nichijou, that is very close to the former and quite distant from the latter), School Rumble (first season in particular) and Seto no Hanayome.

and seconds ichigo mashimaro, welcome to the nhk, school rumble, sayonara zetsubou sensei season 1 only. um... i perosnally hated setono hanayome. I think if you hated Love Hina you will definitely hate seto no hanayome. The resaon I hated love hina nad seto no hanayome was because they were really annoying/loud/unoriginal/had dumb energy that is directed in the worst annoying dragged out way possible. azumanga daioh is really boring and slow so you can decide whether you find it hilarious or boring as hell in like 2 eps or so.

I'll second Seto No Hanayome, one of the funniest things I've ever seen the first half of the first eppisode isn't funny though, get through that and you'll love the rest!
Honey and clover is also incredibly funny. It's emotional with GREAT characters and romance. Though comedy isn't the main theme I still find it pretty damn hilarious. Overall really awesome anime. |
