As far as I know he's taken no public position on it, nor would I have expected him to. I suspect he probably doesn't consider it an especially important issue and wouldn't have bothered to raise it if he'd been in a position to have done so.

So basically, what I can understand from that post ::
-Matsuzawa wasn't so popular with the polls, hence why Ishihara took over for him. -Hideo has no plans with trying to nullify Bill 156 but he doesn't seem to support it either. He seems more neutral/critical/careful when it comes to subjects such as this. |

I don't think you can make any assumptions about Hideo's plans one way or the other. He's from the entertainment industry and has never shown any proclivity towards being anti-otaku, so it might be reasonable to hope he'd oppose 156, but hope is not expectation. A more realistic possibility is that his government might simply ignore 156 and pretend it doesn't exist. It's unenforceable in its current form anyway, so that might be his approach.
The key issue is whether the elections will be postponed. It seems insane to me to think you'd try to hold them as scheduled what with power and transportation issues on top of everything else, but the sooner they're held the better it will be for Ishihara.

because yeah, no matter what promises are delivered, that merger is going to be a fail for the consumer. I've already complained to my rep and two senators.

Interestingly, I saw Hideo Higashikokubaru campaigning today - in Akiba. I'm sure Ishihara would never show his face there of all places. Hideo was drawing a big crowd but I have no idea what was being said. Whether he campaigned there specifically to draw some of the anti-156 vote I don't know. AFAIK the polls say Ishihara is going to win, unfortunately.

"Politics is the art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, diagnosing it incorrectly, and applying all the wrong remedies." I swear, even though it's been a couple months since I've last visited this thread (about a week since the bill was approved) there is still lots of controversy and activity going on that's directly or indirectly involved with this bill... I'm surprised... Question: I apologize, as I haven't read the past 10 pages or so and they might yield answers, but thus far, I haven't noticed anything affecting... America and the distribution of Japanese medias such as anime and manga just yet. I realize that substantial things won't exactly occur until much later, perhaps in months or even next year (in which case, it'd really be the end of the world for me) but is there any idea how and when this might affect American distribution of anime and manga in the future? Sorry if this question's been raised a hundred times before, it's my fault I haven't been exactly updating myself on this thread.

IMHO the problem with the bill isn't that it targets child porn or incest (which it doesn't actually target as well as the previous law) but that it targets a wide arrange of intimate relationship types that could be used in good storytelling but now may never be due to fear of the law (even if it doesn't get enforced people will still be apprehensive due to it).

According to various sources (NHK, Asahi, Yomiuri), Ishihara has been reelected. Not really surprising to me, taking in account Japan's nonexistant public sphere (Habermas). If you believe that the NHK is run by Zainichi Koreans and that the Asahi Shimbun is printing the chinese communist party's propaganda, voting for that old populist seems to be a good choice.
