Those were designs from the 80s and 90s tho. Demographic don't even come into account. Yoshitaka Amano is famous for character designs in the earliest Final Fantasy before Nomura took over and he also illustrated Vampire Hunter D. Older anime fans knew Kamimura Sashiko best for her work on City Hunter anime and Black Jack TV series.

So a series, huh. I wonder if one or two cours... I'm kind of starting to wish it was two cours so it can get away from the manga and find its own way of storytelling. (Hopefully closer to the novel, and without the manga's awkward "jokes"...) And 2 cours would mean they can cut and streamline to reach the logical stopping point, instead of having to stop abruptly.
And I still can't stand Daryun's ponytail. Why, why, why. I just can't take him seriously with it. |

Anyway, with Pierrot doing the animation, the staff being who they are, and the manga being at the stage it is, I'm kind of thinking that this anime is a "let's just put something out there to try to drum up interest" kind of thing. Lowering my expectations (further) accordingly... |

Eh, Noriyuki Abe is pretty good director. This becomes more noticeable when you look at his individual episodes, but even something like Yu Yu Hakusho has a reputation for having good direction throughout it's entire run. Shingo Ogiso is decent animator himself, the only one with a bad resume is Uezu but this is an adaptation so I dunno how much his role will matter anyway.
Also, the studio is most likely A-1 not Pierrot. Abe went to work with A-1 ever since Bleach ended. |

Good to know I'm not alone. Arakawa has a very characteristic art style and relatively little variation to it. Which works for her own manga, but I think this art style is just not right for this particular story; and to make it worse, the characters just feel like every Arakawa character ever. :/ |

OMG. I can't believe this is getting a TV series!!! I remembered how when I was around 8 or 9 years old (late 90s), I rented it from Hollywood Video. Sure I did not understand much but I sure enjoyed it!!
On the other hand, the new graphics is nice but at the same time, somehow it does not seem as charming as the old art. Probably just my nostalgia talking though.

Soo-Won as Arslan? Pretty good choice. The rest of the cast is solid as well (although I wanted Katsuyuki Konishi as Daryun).
Taro Iwashiro writing the music for Arslan? That's going ro be incredible. I still listen some of the Red Cliff and Onimusha OSTs http://youtu.be/Ml8WA1mjqjo http://youtu.be/6lEXKI-9c5g Last edited by AntonKutovoi; 2015-02-01 at 07:53. |

It's a hand-drawn/CGI anime hybrid anime so you don't have to worry too much (unless the CGI is done poorly). Majestic Prince and Black Bullet had Orange producing it along with Dogakobo and Kinema Citrus (respectively), I suppose I'm expecting that kind of collaboration to show up in this series.

I think more than the CGI, people should be worried about Linden Films doing this. Their work on Terraformars didn't exactly inspire confidence as far as action animation goes (the OVA's looked alright but the TV series suffered badly) and they're working on Yamada and the Seven Witches for Spring too...be afraid
