just finished the anime and i enjoyed it. madhouse definitely captured the mystery around the plot and characters to capture the viewers interest and they did it for me. now this is coming from someone who knows absolutely nothing about chaos;head beforehand. of course the last 2 episodes felt out of whack to me but what can you expect really for a 12 episode adaption.
and i understand people complaining about the anime because they left out some very important details and depth from the VN on how things came to be for the characters. i felt like this anime was made as a marketing of some sort to get more people's attention on the 360 chaos;head port. similar to what world destruction did. BTW can someone PM me on what the B ending is about in the VN? |

Having watched the final episode, this is yet another example of a mystery series in anime where the final solutions simply don't do the initial mystery justice. It's like the mystery version of all-style, no-substance, where there's so much emphasis on creating a heavy atmosphere at the beginning and posing questions that keep the audience guessing that the writers seemingly couldn't come up with satisfying and creative answers to those questions in the end.
The other big problem was that most of the girls were boring, and almost seemed incidental to the plot. The only genuinely interesting and likable character, IMO, was Sena. She was the only one who showed anything close to something resembling depth. Yua was almost a plot device for the first few episodes, and Ayase was so cryptic that nothing she said ended up making sense. Kozu-pii and Nanami were also pretty pointless. I really enjoyed how loathesome they managed to make Takumi, but in the end he triumphed because he could control his inner power after finding strength through courage and love. Yawn! What a cliched resolution. I also didn't like how Shogun didn't sound like an old man. Instead he had the voice of a bishounen. It would have been far more sinister and atmospheric (especially for the earlier parts of the story) had Shogun sounded like the old guy from Shigurui, for example. I'm giving this an "Above Average" rating of 6/10. Initially creepy and atmospheric, but the answers are disappointing and the ending was decidedly cliched. The female characters are uninteresting as well. It says nothing when Takumi's delusions about an anime figurine makes for one of the most interesting female characters in the series.

Yah good question... I am also wondering how she got into that state, because there was no way she was just born in the darkness and shogun somehow happened to tap into her delusion (which is what it sounds like right now - taking VDZ's words into account)

... when it comes to Rimi, I suspect she may have been part of the experiment that dealt with the delusions and all that; after all, we know that Sena was involved with some sort of experiment, so who's to say there weren't others as well?
