hmmm... this only happens in bleach though. you don't see it in other shonen. the lead character usually gets the most power-ups. but in bleach the only legitimate power-up ichigo got after his bankai was learning to use his hollow mask, and he could barely use it at that. that final getsuga tenshou was probably the most unimaginative and uncreative power-ups (if you could call it that) that a shonen lead character has ever gained. it was nothing more than a more powerful version of an already boring move. in the beginning, ichigo's lack of knowledge of his bankai was understandable and it opened opportunities for improvement in his character as well as his abilities. however, kubo failed to use that opening. instead of creating opportunities for ichigo to explore his powers and slowly live up to his true potential, he made him lose all of his powers only to have him regain them in some lame manner. my guess is, kubo probably doesn't know what else to do with ichigo. he made ichigo so powerful that he doesn't know what else he could do to him to make him even more powerful.

half of the characters in bleach are idiots. actually, almost all of them are. i guess the biggest idiot gets to be the lead character? is that how it works?
