Nightmare on Elm Street' and 'Scream' Series, Dies at 76: "Wes Craven, the famed writer-director of horror films known for the Nightmare on Elm Street and Scream movies, died Sunday after a battle with brain cancer. He was 76. Craven, whose iconic Freddy Krueger character horrified viewers for years, died at his home in Los Angeles, his family announced. Thanks for giving us Freddy Krueger, Ghost Face and a few good horror & thriller movies like Last House on the Left, Red Eye and The Hills Have Eyes. I even found Dracula 2000 to be decent. Funnily enough, I’m one of those people who didn’t ‘get’ Scream the first time I watched it aside from the obvious ‘whodunnit’ mistery coz I was pretty much new to slasher-horror genre at the time. Later I found out that it was meant to be a meta commentary of horror movies before it.
