That's probably one of the most unpredictable thing I've ever read in a while. So much that I feel like I was trolled.

A lot of people are explaining the title with Nadeko's story, actually.

Hitagi put an END to Nadeko's sordid tale of miserable one-sided love, her Koimonogatari if you will, so that she might follow her dreams.

It fits pretty nicely if you think about how all the Season 2 books have been wrapping up the loose ends of the heroines (Hitagi's self, Tsubasa's lingering stress and insecurity, Kanbaru's future, Mayoi's... death, and now Nadeko's love) to make way for a Zaregoto-style showdown with Ougi in Season 3.

Hence why everyone said they were tricked. The thing is, at the end of Otori the narration set up the situation as if an epic battle was about to unfold. I mean we see Araragi, Hitagi and teenage Shinobu slowly walking towards Nadeko and we see her saying how their vampirism has nothing over her poison.

I just hope that the epic battle did happen and it's just that they lost and Kaiki came to save the day at the end.

To be fair, Hitagi's self was resolved in Nise.

Also, I think the reason why Nisio did it like this is because he wants to set up Nadeko as an ally when the battle with Ougi happens. I also think the battle will probably happen AFTER HANA.
Araragi and Shinobu - Vampirism
Hanekawa - Energy absorption and fire breathing (assuming she can use her Kaii powers)
Kanbaru - Devil parts (as far we know she still has them)
Nadeko - Poison and snake summoning

True, true, but I suppose that I meant it as more of a general progression than an actual trichotomy.

But knowing Nisio, Oshino will probably come back as the secret bonus villain or something crazy like that.

We also still don't know what Araragi and Episode were up to from back in Nekomonogatari, either.

Also, boo on Nadeko losing her powers. However I guess it was inevitable since it's pretty clear now that Ougi tricked Nadeko into eating the charm so that it couldn't be used against her.

Also, I love how the very first sentence in the novel is, "For all the readers who thought it'll be Senjougahara Hitagi that's telling the story, you've been tricked."

On a scale of 1-10 of how much we were trolled during these past novels I would list them as such:

The book was all about the relationship between her and Kaiki, and not Araragi. But you do get to know that Hitagi and her father went to the Araragi house to cerebrate New Year with them.
