Is anyone else annoyed that Yurisha acts like a juvenile little girl? Maybe it is due to her ignorance of Earth society, unless she is actually just a year old.
I don't think she would exhibit the Leiji Matsumoto body proportions as they did with Starsha. |

We really don't know. Since this is a remake its quite possible he'll die like in the original. Yet Studio XEBEC has already made some changes that it might not follow what's canon. He's really turning out to be quite a likeable character and is an honorable adversary. Killing him off so soon wouldn't be such a good idea IMO.

By the way, doing a gradual population of the page on my side of the woods in TV Tropes, particularly the character page, but I need a definitive list on who're the new additions to the cast compared to the original (most of the female crew!), or returning characters with new characterization (like Schultz and Gantz). So, help?
For example, I assume that Hoshina Tohru is a new addition, while his superior Ito isn't?

Another slight change is the inclusion of Hijikata. While he isn't an original character in 2199, he doesn't appear until the second season of the original Yamato. Also, Akira Yamamoto was male in the original. Last edited by Beltane70; 2013-06-09 at 00:26. Reason: Additional info |

Hmmm. I don't know how detailed I can get (without going overboard). I'll try a bit based on those present on the Yamato2199.net character pages: http://yamato2199.net/character.html
Better idea for spelling and in Yamato 2199 character page translations can be found here: http://www.ourstarblazers.com/696_21...ide/index.html From the Original series in 1974-75 with original roles Earth: Okita - Ship's captain Kodai - tactical officer Shima - Navigator/helmsman Mori - Radar/Operations/Nurse Sanada - Chief Science Officer Tokugawa - Chief Engineer Nanbu - Gunnery Chief Aihara - Communication Oota - Assistant Navigator/Radar Sado - Doctor Katou - Fighter Squadron leader Yabu - Engineering Assistant Analyzer - Robot Mamoru Kodai - Kodai's odler brother who was a Destroyer Captain Todo - Commander of all Earth Forces Gamilas: Dessler - Leader of the Gamilas Empire Dommel - High ranking General Hiss - Vice Leader Talan (Welte version) - General (later aide to Dessler) last seen in Farewell to Yamato...replaced in second series by the other version of Talan. Gale - Commander of Balan Base until Dommel replaces him. Heidern - Captain of Red Battlecarrier/Pilot of Drill Missile Bomber Burger - Captain of Purple Trideck Carrier/Leader of Dive Bomber squadrons Charis - Captain of Blue Trideck Carrier/Leader of Torpedo Bomber squadrons Ryle - Captain of Green Trideck Carrier/Leader of Fighter squadrons Schultz - Pluto Base Commander Gantz - Socond in Command on Pluto Iscandar: Starsha - Queen Sasha - Messanger to Earth, dies on Mars to deliver message of hope to Earth. Characters from other parts of the story other than the orignal series: Earth: Hijikata (second series/Farewell to Yamato) - Admiral in the Earth Defense Forces on Battleship Andromeda (TV series)/Admiral of Outer Patrol Fleet, only suvivor, takes command of Yamato (film) Serizawa (second series) - General on Earth. Doesn't like Yamato's crew Yamazaki (New Voyages TV movie) - New ship's Chief Engineer after the death of Tokugawa. Kitano (New Voyages TV movie) - Recently graduated helmsman who has tactical training Yamamani (Be Forever, Yamato movie) - Captain of Yamato after Yamato get a major refit. Hirata (third series) Gamilas: Talan (Ghader version - second series) - General, aide, and friend of Dessler Fluerken (third series) - Commander of a squadron of dimensional submarines. Characters that were in the Original series but look different from their orignal form: Earth: Yamamoto (was male) - Fighter Pilot Makoto (was seen once as a female nurse similar in style to Sado, but was poorly drawn and voiced by a man...was suppose to be a short woman) Gamilas: Melda Dietz (was orignially an unnamed male pilot captured by Yamato) New Characters for Yamato 2199: Earth: Enomoto - Boatswain Niimi - Councelor and expert of Alien Technology Yuria - Radar/Radio Sinohara - Figher Pilot Ito - Chief of Security Hosina -Ito's Assistant in Security Iwata - Crewman/Deckhand Toyama - Crewman/Deckhand Miki - Radar Gamilas: Zoelick - Field Marsall of the Armies Dietz - Admiral of the Fleets Gimileh - Head of the Imperial Guard Ceresteria (partly based on a character by Leiji Matsumoto named Mela from "The Eternal Story of Jura") - Prodaganda Minister Hainy - First Officer of submarine UX-01 Hilde - Daughter of Schultz Yaentry - Commander of the Reflex Gun battery on Pluto Raleta - Commander of the Repair Base on the floating continent on Jupiter Lang - Captain of a Battlecruiser Neruge - Imperial Gaurd assigned to Lang's Battlecruiser Mirenel (Partly based on a character by Leiji Matsumoto named Jura from "The Eternal Story of Jura") - Mental Infultrator Iscandar: Yurisha - Youngest sister of Starsha and Sasha. There are more in the show that are familiar, but they aren't on the main character pages.

Nice list, Ithekro, though i have to say you're all over the place with those spellings. Ceresteria? Î've gone with Celestra and i've seen Celestera but that is a new one to me. And there's a couple of others like Sinohara and Hosina instead of Shinohara and Hoshina...

Since no totally clean version of the 2nd TV Ed scroll has surfaced, i took it upon myself to make one. And, man, this one took some work. After getting the video in high quality and making as many screencaps as necessary to stitch it together, came the fidly task of getting rid of all the text, which in places, due to the movement of the ships, requires more than just puting images together. I'm quite happy with the result, i hope you all like it too.
Spoiler for TV Ed Scroll #2:

I was using the Yamato2199 webpage names (I think) so they can be found. Tim Eldred's site had the names spelled better.
Now a list of justifications for the characters from later series being in the present one: Earth: Hijikata: Was an admiral in the fleet and had been an instructor at the academy when Kodai was there. Therefore he should be around doing something in 2199. Serizawa: Was seen to be on the general staff later on, so one would assume he was a general beforehand. Yamazaki: When introduced, it was said he had been with them for a while and had been Tokogawaw's assistant. So the new show reflects that. Kitano: When he arrived he was in Navigation green, but Kodai put him in the Chief Tactical position for the training cruise. The crew seemed conforable with him. But no other reason for him to have been on the ship in 2199 as oppose to joining the crew two or so years later. Yamamani: When introduced was said to be a contemporary of Okita and Hijikata. So he had to be doing something in 2199. Hirata: During the course of the third series, we are told he was part of the original crew and come onboard with Kodai and the rest of the senior staff. So the new show reflects that. Gamilas: Talan (Ghader version): He appeared with Dessler in most instances from the second series onward, but had the same name as Dessler's lone Gamials aide in Farewell to Yamato who had also been seen twice in the first series. So the Production Staff for Yamato 2199 made them both exist as brothers rather than being the same character. Fluerken: No real justification. He was presented as a Galman sub commander in the third series, and it was thought that the Galman were seperate from the Gamilas until Dessler found them again years after the events of 2199. However that might not be the case now. Also in the third series, the submarine force was larger and had better tactics (they defeated Yamato), so he would have had to been around for a while, and that time isn't there between when Dessler would have liberated the Galmans and when they would face Yamato again. So I suppose having him be part of the Gamilas Empire and the captain of their prototype submarine makes sense with all that.

These that you mentioned actually were based on unnamed characters from the original series, although their character designs are completely different:
Hainy - First Officer of submarine UX-01 Yaretra - Commander of the Reflex Gun battery on Pluto Raleta - Commander of the Repair Base on the floating continent on Jupiter |

Well it's certainly less sparse than Greenmantle started it with, that's for sure. However, it definitely needs someone who's much more savvier with the franchise than I am (or better, access to the series wikis, as those are blocked by my office's firewalls etc.).
