Maybe the "promise" is something she actually did with Ddraig, and is just putting an act of Ise's "self-proclaiming childhood friend".
But I really doubt it, it would be totally crazy, even for Ishibumi's parameters.

I just thought about something:
Issei has 8 Pawn pieces, right? Does that mean that when he uses Promotion (to Queen for example) he gets the power equivalent to 8 Queens?

nope 4 piece of issei have mutated into ccqp & triana, maybe the 4 piece left may or may not become queen it will depend on the author on how he will tackle issei remaining pawn evil piece

Huh? Since when can Pawn Piece evolve into Queen Piece? I know they can promote into Queen but that's all.

As to the Mutation Piece, it represents the CCQ and Triana.

Issei is one pawn, not eight. So he ends up being one "queen" when promoting.

Number of pieces is irrelevant. It just increases the amount of power that the reincarnated being can have in relation to the one doing the reincarnation. Even then, pawn have value of 1 while queen have value of 9 (3 for knight and bishop, 5 for rook).

It was established that many people in history held sacred gears. Did Ishibumi ever thought of making some side-stories about that?

I mean, it'll be interesting if some famous people in human history are actually SG users. Just imagine if Hannibal was a former Sekiryuutei while Scipio was former Hakuryuukou. Or the same situation with Takeda Shingen & Uesugi Kenshin

For now prehaps only one of ise's pawns promotes to queen/true queen, maybe in the future, when he uses promotion, all 8 pawns will promote to true queen due to his great red/ophis body and elevates him to #1 in the ranking of the most powerful at the end of the series

actually 3 of the pawn are mutated into the triana pcs which are Bishop, Knight and Rook. so unless the author want to change all pcs to queen its up to him

He can promote cause he has the traits of a pawn, in doesnt matter the number of evil pieces, 4 mutated in order to hold the power of those skills, the other ones are there just to give him more power(sincs rias focused all the 8 possible pawns in just one guy), so something like making all the other pieces promote as if they where in separated bodies to make issei something like an overpowered pawn is kinda off, imo
