Yeah, I'm a Horo fanboy, and more of a Zenge fan in this show. But I think it's still quite obvious that Nagi can never come near to Horo's level of awesomeness.

I can't help mentioning that Tsugumi's wonderful voice is SAWASHIRO Miyuki, who is in my avatar and sig right now. Note the list in the sig of great roles she has played. If you're interested, check out the blog post I did about her, which has more info, links, photos, and videos. She's only 23, but has done over 100 roles since she began as a seiyuu at 14, and has still been able to graduate from university.

The story seems to have shifted from my earlier preconceptions of mortal/immortal romance (specifically Tsugumi and Nagi's little bedroom chat) but I don't find that a bad thing. It still may be a triangle of sorts since Jin has his own feelings to sort out during the series. Tsugumi was uber-cute during the porn collection conversation between Jin and Nagi. Advantage: Tsugumi, though she's obviously still worried.

Generally hilarious "introduce the main cast" episode --- at first I wasn't fond of the two sempai in art club but when all was made clear they seem more likeable.

The large guy, Daitetsu, reminds me a bit of Jumbo from Yotsuba in both size and personality.

I'm speculating that the whole cast will have a clue about Nagi's true self before this is over.

Ratings so far --- ep1:9, ep2:9, ep 3:8.

True. Horo is a far more superior Kami-sama than Nagi. But Nagi is funny because she's so normal for a God. The toilet flushing, the legs scratching, the natural lies. I like her because of how the anime executed her character. It's all about the execution.

Nagi is an avatar of her Kami, not the Kami herself. As MaiHikari notes, she's very flawed in many respects. When she channels the essence of her Kami, her speech and personality shifts.

Horo is also an avatar of her goddess-self but as an incarnation, not simply an avatar. She's basically "herself" at all times.

Both characters are wonderful and I love the execution of both. They're just really different things though they're both supernatural.

Exactly what I tried to express. I don't hate Nagi, I like her. I just don't understand why people say she is as awesome as Horo. She is basically a goddess but very down to earth. She behaves no difference from a normal girl most of the time. She is just another very likable anime character, while Horo is like Sheryl, characters you don't see often in anime. I bet you won't comment Ranka is as awesome as Sheryl just because they are both songtress, right?

I think the concepts here are differenct. Not like in Kannagi, deity in Spice and Wolf are normally just creatures with greater power. People call Horo goddess, but Horo doesn't very much think she is one.

Are we sure of that? Said diety supposedly existed in the sacred tree, did she not? The tree's been destroyed, and Nagi's current body was made from what remained.

I don't know... I've been presuming that this body is all Nagi has left, and the fading of her powers is going to put even it at risk, eventually. I think she's dying... or at least heading that way. We can hope Zange will be willing to help save her, but I'm not counting on that.

I find Nagi and Horo equally awesome, just different, as Vexx said. I still think Koshimizu Ami had the best female seiyuu performance of the year as Horo, but Tomatsu Haruka may be the best "newcomer," for this show. This show is a lot more centred on its comedy than that one was, but both have aspects of comedy and of drama.

I do wish people wouldn't carry the Sheryl-Ranka conflict over into this thread. As someone who liked Ranka and never really got Sheryl, the mutual incomprehension of the two camps became pretty hard to handle over there. I found Macross ultimately kind of repetitive and unsatisfying, much as I basically liked the show. The characters didn't seem consistent to me -- especially Alto, but Sheryl and Ranka, too.

Here, however, the basic inconsistency of Nagi -- goddess, tease, and innocent -- is part of the joy of the show.

Macross? I felt it is 25 episodes of prologue before the upcoming movie.

Nagi have split personality. Her eyes when she in goddess mode is glazed; whereas when she is human it has lively look. The scene where Jin queried her about the dead kittens incident is interesting to me when her eyes is signaling the transition that I just described. Perhaps she is hiding behind human flaws?

Or, she could very well be the same personality. It just means she knows when and when not to act godly in front of a human, after all, she needs to keep her identity hidden.

Nagi or Horo?

I never had before this urgency to make so many avatars from a single character, so that sort of answers the question.

Hmmm… Nagi has a certain charm I cannot describe with just words… the voice is probably the main reason, but her interaction with Jin and Tsugumi—and perhaps the rest of the supporting cast—just shows how “easy” can be to like a character, or personality such as hers… I don’t remember the last time I felt so “head-over-heels” for an anime character, but I can’t seem to find any complaint about her. I like her overall design—the mesmerizing eyes, the “smooth” blue hair, the unique clothing and last but not least, the cute bra—and add such a fascinating personality—the sometimes clueless, the sometimes mundane, the sometimes complex—and you get a goddess like no other…
