The animation and choreography for the fights thus far has just been outstanding, perhaps unparalleled among recent anime.

Love the sly smile from Archer, and the little hints of his powers being dropped already with the sword hilt in front of Shirou and Saber. UBW is the most badass route by far, even thought HF has a more intense plot, the pure epicness of UBW makes it my favorite.

Too bad the episode felt like it flew by in 5 minutes...

Berserker's unarmed combat was a nod to pankration, a martial art said to be invented by Heracles and Theseus. Done well. Hell, the whole fight was done well. And you know what? This episode seems unfinished. There were noticeable awkward transitions during the fights so small sequences needed to be added in. The frames themselves would be redrawn a bit like what happened with Zero. BDs would be glorious.

Agile and super strong. I think she used a mini-Excalibur to demonstrate God Hand...

So in here, Berserker lost two lives....

It felt kinda awkward infodumping something like that when she's literally in front of him and it kinda went too long as well. It would have worked in a farther distance or outside battle.

But the use of Excalibur felt natural here as Saber would have noticed Invisible Air is not working and promptly tried to eliminate Berserker as fast as she can.

It is not really matter how many lives he lost here.

Gil will just simply take care of the rest...

If Rider can tweak his chariot to work on one target, Saber could probably do it too.

Yeah. But Berserker should do something (since they were doing some stuff that wasn't in the novel....)

I wonder why Archer never tried to kill Illya? If he could save Rin, then he should have been able to hit Illya as well since she was standing just a few metres in front of Rin.

Probably because Berserker could've easily blocked any attempt, just like we saw Saber easily block that Berserker's attempt on Shirou's life.

Wasn't Berserker fighting Saber at the graveyard at that time?

He did say he can sense his Master but not other Masters. So probably the most he can sense of Rin is a small space around her so he was able to accurately shoot down Illya's magic but not Illya herself.

So why does Ilya show so much interest in Shirou? Because she knows they are step-siblings?

And given how fast Servants are, with Ilya in the immediate area, you think he couldn't have stopped any harm from coming to her? Servants can trade several blows in the space it takes for a human to blink.

Because for her, it's personal. She doesn't know the full story of the Fourth Grail War, and only sees Shirou as the boy her father abandoned her for. She's very, very upset and bitter and wants him dead as a result. I dunno if it'll be explored in this anime--IIRC it's not a subject that comes up in UBW, given what happens to Ilya, but given the new scenes we're supposed to get of her...

Small question that may or may not destroy my headcanon...
Do Vessels of the Holy Grail, like Iri and Illya, have some knowledge of the identities of the Servants of the HGW that they correspond to? (basically Iri has some knowledge of the Servants in the 4th HGW while Illya has some knowledge of the Servants in the 5th HGW barring Gilgamesh because he is technically of the 4th HGW)

They do but only once they have absorbed that spirit as a grail
Ilya knew who Shirou was once she took Archer's spirit as grail in HF

That promptly destroys my headcanon... eh, it wasn't much at the beginning.
So Illya's reason for taking interest with Archer was not (VN) being able to take a life of Berserker but (ufoFSN) going against what seems to her an alliance between Shirou and Rin and almost killing her prey Shirou?

I don't remember the exact place it was mentioned (whether an interview or one of the CM volumes or something), but I do remember hearing that the timeline that leads to Archer existing is one in which he was very close to Illya. I doubt that Archer would be comfortable with killing Illya outright, especially during their first confrontation.

I felt like him saying he couldn't keep track of Illya was just an excuse. If he could see precisely enough to shoot her birds out of the air, he shouldn't have any problem keeping track of where she was.

I really loved the additional content they added to this episode, and am especially really happy to see the extra attention given to showcasing Illya's personality. Also, having a first actual appearance of her using magic in a combat setting was nice to (finally) see. The extended Saber/Berserker fight was also quite a treat. I'm very much looking forward to how the rest of this adaptation plays out, if for no reason other than to see what other kinds of original elements they plan on adding.

And Saber gave a bad reaction when she heard Einzbern.
I wonder if she miss Iri?

Shiro, he admits he is useless in the battle and he still dives into it, thinking he wants to help others as always does at school and jobs.
What do we call that?

Before talking about Shirou, you guys should admit that ufotable did a great job on altering his character, and pretty much on other characters like Taiga too. Noticed that he's not holding an idiot ball like he did in DEEN version, as he seemed more instinctive than before.
