I looked up the original Baka-Tsuki translation (I had the pdfs downloaded from the site a while back, are those different from now?) and found that the only thing mentioned in the first novel's Kyon-Asakura confrontation is "sharp as an army knife."

Later, in the Disappearance novel, it is mentioned that the weapon of choice for Asakura is a Swiss army knife.

I know we changed it to a katana (I think) but aren't they under a streetlamp, at the gates of the school? (Yeah, yeah, its 4:48 AM, but it seems like you'd want to have a smaller, more concealable weapon.)

Also, another thing:

As far as I'm reading, it never said that Asakura pulled it out slowly in the original:
Quote:
To me, her grin looked like that of an expressionless mask that has suddenly begun smiling.
Asakura then backed off from me, pulling out the blood-soaked dagger which she used to stab
me.
Anyway... another opinion I have. I may be biased, but... would Kyonko feel more at ease with a gun in hand? I'd definitely prefer a gun over a giant syringe, and so would Kyon, but Kyonko...?

I think I'm sounding rather sexist now, sorry about that. And I'm also sorry for being so nitpicky.

...What, are you thinking nurse cosplay or something?

But...hm. Perhaps a Star Trek: TNG-type hypospray? That in itself could provoke some snark, too (something about Nagato watching too much sci-fi, perhaps?), so it would be an interesting choice.

Kyon: I need to think of a name... Mary Sue. There's nothing negative about that, right?

Kyon: I'm Mary Sue.

Haruki: ...

Hm, I was thinking Jane Doe (feminine form of John Doe, obviously), since we don't know Kyonko's real name, and it's a generic type name.

Just my two cents.

In other news, I added two more links to my signature! Now I have links to this thread, the image thread, and the Seitenkan group page!

...now all that's left is to actually post outside of this thread...

Jane Smith could be her fake name to Haruki. Its suits more as a genderbent name to John Smith.

It doesn't have the connotation of being a really common name, though.

What we need is a really common female name.

Patricia's one of the most common names in the US.
Patricia Martin maybe?

Bahahahahaha!

That could work, and doesn't sound too stupid. The original was supposed to be a Dr. Who reference anyway, I believe.

We're going with Nancy apparently since it's both common and an allusion.

Kyon would not dare belittle herself like that.

"I'm Mary Sue," said the beautiful and mysterious Kyon of hair brushed and tied into a long ponytail of an aura of innocence, charm, and popularity. The dear and handsome Haruki blushed at this and scratched his bold, shining, flowing brown hair that had a gleaming golden band in it in a way Kyon found cuter than a button. A round button with many curves that hypnotized you into a dream as sweet as rainbows, unicorns, puppies, and Hillary Clinton for president.

KILL ME NOW.
