Yes, I know NEX is mirrorless. And DSLR of course, offers more control than it, likely faster focusing too since it's manual.

But I'm thinking...since good lens is more important than body, would mirrorless, despite the higher starting cost, be more worthwhile in the end? Although I must say I hate EVF.

Again, it's really depend what is your plan as "photographer"

if you plan is just take photo as hobbyist. then mirrorless probably good for you. you can have an excellent image quality in a small, portable camera. so it use for you to bring camera around for trip and such. probably you can then buy more lens as the lens ecosystem growing and you skill improving.

if you think photography is more than just hobby. then you probably buy DSLR. you can tweak the photo relatively easier than mirrorless since it have more manual control. It offer more lens from get go which in turn provide more option and creativity. Also it have stable used-market so it probably cheaper in long run if plan to buy used lens.

is really depend on how you treat photography as hobby
