Dumb question: is this 'anime' ? or 'anime-ish' animation?

It's looks nice. It's Taiwanese animation. You don't see that very often.

The second trailer blew the first trailer away. Go VOFAN!

I guess it isn't anime in a sense that it's not produced in Japan, but it is anime in a sense that it has characteristics that are distinctive of anime.

But the term usage in Japan refers to all animation. So technically this is "anime".

But the term in English refers specifically to Japanese animation. We have another word for animation, which is, surprisingly enough, "animation".

the face is still not cute enough , still very amateur/non-anime-ish

The background art is awesome tho.

Well, it's not Japanese animation but Taiwanese animation. Some Korean animation features (My Beautiful Girl Mari, Wonderful Days,Yobi the 5 tailed Fox) don't have the typical facial features that you see in Japanese animation either.

Telling a bittersweet story about a relationship thru a camera lens is probably very Japanese. (A guess since I can't read the print) VOFAN is being compared to an early Makoto Shinkai.

VOFAN did the illustrations for the Monogatari Series light novels, which ramped up like crazy after the Bakemonogatari anime adaptation. I imagine he kinda ran out of spare time.
