From the link here, it is clearly shown that the article talking about the supposed "cancellation and remake" of Haruhi season two is linked to the viral marketing at the end of 2007. The prank was described in the top-left corner, and TAKEN SERIOUSLY.

Thus as I previously predicted, they were retelling the same prank for the Newtype audience.

The fact that in the other pages, the Newtype editors are "playing dumb" by wondering why Haruhi is wearing strange clothes on the front cover and why Yuki is blushing, means they are playing along.

This is settled folks! It is a prank!

Now the bad news.

Even though they didn't scrap any scripts and have no intention of deviating from the source material, it is plain as day that Haruhi Season 2 still isn't coming next month. This Newtype info-dump is designed to let the non-Haruhiists catch up on all the things we Haruhiists have known for a year, by explaining all the little pieces of info which were leaked earlier.

Thus Haruhi Season 2 is still right on schedule. They just wanted to warm up the audience in advance.

(Oh, note that Newtype rarely ever have art that portray Christmas except when near December, so the fact the full-color spread of the Haruhi Christmas event was used as the background means something else... like how that chapter is placed chronologically just before the "Disappearance arc", perhaps?)

You know, I'm starting to lose faith in these Newtype spoilers in general for anything really informative.

I've not heard anything of interest since the "leak", and nothing at all since the magazine went on sale. Only a nice larger picture of the cover.

Haruhi looks upset. We have not pleased the God Empress.

(Reminds me of the responce the people at Suncoast gave my mother a number of years ago when she asked why the Indiana Jones films were not on DVD at the time. "We've been bad".

Kyoto Animations still got Clannad ~After story~ to air...so I'm guessing Spring 09 we'll be getting Haruhi season 2.

Seems like Haruhi season 2 is pretty hyped up...feels just like when we were getting daily updates on Smash Bros. Brawl and everyone being upset about the delays and stuff...sounds pretty similar to Haruhi season 2.

And this viral marketing campaign can really mess with fans. That wasn't really funny with what they did with that Newtype issue. A lot of people were really looking forward to new info on season 2.

Yeah thats the image. I think thats the image thats similar to the cover page of the July issue of Newtype...wait let me check.

EDIT: Yup, even though the Newtype illustration looks different from what they showed in the novel, I think they're implying the same image for the second season.
Anyways, Haruhi has long hair during that time, so it makes sense.

If KyoAni wants to do Clannad AS right, they have to spend time on the minor character arcs... which probably means 24 episodes.

By now, Haruhi season 2 should have its timeslot booked in advance already. Which means someone, somewhere, know when Season 2 is coming out. They just refuse to squeal because people can lose their jobs if contract conditions are broken...

Of course. We just gotta have faith in KyoAni, huh?

I mean, what else do they have to animate?

FMP still doesn't have its next volume out so they can't animate that...

I don't see a Tomoyo After or Planetarian adaptation other than in OVA form...

And then there's Little Busters, which I personally would like to see animated anyway.

So, next spring is either more Haruhi, Little Busters, or nothing.

They have very little left of the manga to adapt, in any case, and the ending was good enough.

They're getting an OVA in August, so that should shut them up.

last time kyoani skip two tv seasons for making haruhi,
and the outcome is far worth then they expect.

if this time haruhi s2 is happen near the end of this year,
that would means kyoani skip three whole tv seasons for making it.

sound crazy, but if it's kyoani's desire to obey haruhi and make the world
around her due to haruhi fans, so be it, and we'll live with it.

Time has told. KyoAni is doing Clannad After Story this Fall (and probably Winter). There is a two season skip (they've pretty much run out of time to surprise us for the Summer), but it is for Clannad, not SH.
