Translation assistance for sound effect?

Hello! I am a new member, but a long-time fan of manga in general and Kazuo Koike's graphic novels in particular. Not being fluent in Japanese, I have always been very curious about this panel from the first volume of Crying Freeman.

As you can see below (hopefully... I'm new at this!), the translation for the sound effects hows that these characters indicate "the 'sound' of vacant stare'". I was wondering if anyone knows if there is an English equivalent of this (i.e. "DUHHHH" or something like that) or if it more of an un-translatable kind of thing?

Haha! I hope my question makes sense. Thanks very much for any info on this!
