Just skimmed through the first episode and it looks like a recap of the OVA that came out a while ago. Maybe this'll convince someone to do a decent translation. But I rather look forward to this; there's something really sweet and charming about the life and love of someone who's still pretty much innocent, someone who may be starting to develop sexual feelings but for whom they're still small and simple enough that they still dream of a prince on a white horse instead of an athlete in a swimsuit.
Anyway, this looks likely to be rather pleasing to those of us that love childhood-friend romances. Last edited by BWTraveller; 2016-04-04 at 17:17. |

Ep 01
Yep ... they do in fact cover much of the material from the OVA, but there are other things they leave out and add in. Part of it is due to the fact that the series seems to be especially focusing on two "couplings" and the other is due to the fact that it is an ongoing series, I would guess, so they prolly would not have the some confrontation conclusion character wise as they did in the OVA. I liked the first ep, and am kinda curious to see where they go with the story lines ... how "brass tacks" they are going to get with the issues they touch on.

Agreed. Yes, dramatic stuff can be gripping, but frankly it's really refreshing to have something that's just plain sweet like this from time to time. It warms the heart. I just hope we don't ever get any fanservice here. You know there's going to be a lot of lolicons watching this just because it's 12-year-old girls with cute faces and pounding hearts, so no need to encourage them. I'd rather the demographic be a little more focused on people who just want a sweet innocent love story.

Btw... I really hope it is not at all like Gakuen Alice. Don't misunderstand me, I loved the manga, but it's not what I would label as sweet and heartwarming |

This is exactly how I feel. First ep was a joy to watch. Even the bad guys apologized. And the heroine is quite naturally unsure of herself, but still strong enough to speak up when needed: either to the whole class or to Takao-kun.

Not only did it get subbed, I'm happy to see it was subbed very well. When the OVA version came out the subs were sub-par to say the least. This one had a couple tense mistakes, two mistranslations, and a mistake on the title, and all these were minor (the title isn't "kiss, hate/dislike, kiss", it's "kiss, hate, love"). Very well done overall, and I hope they continue since this looks to be a really sweet series.

12-sai reminds me very much of Mizuiro Jidai, an older anime released in 1996 with a similar old-school animation style. The main characters are a little older, in their first year of junior high but the flavour is very much the same, small emotional dramas and growing up in body and spirit. There's even a matching "first period" incident in the first episode.

Wow ... had forgotten about that one. There are some similarities, aren't there?
