Untrustworthy harem

A twist on the harem concept and a setup that gives reason for the hero's inability to progress or accept even the most obvious approaches the girls take, I'm looking for some stories where the hero has reason to doubt his harem. For any number of reasons, one or more of the girls may be faking interest either to hurt him or to get control of him. Best example I know of is the mediocre harem series Love Love?, in which the hero is the writer for a TV series and all the girls in the harem are actresses in the series; they get wind of his identity and start trying to hit on him, thinking that if he likes them enough he might just give them better parts and thus boost their careers.

Another later example is Nakaimo AKA Kono Naka ni Hitori Imouto ga Iru. The hero is the heir to a huge conglomerate and thus stands to inherit tons of money and power, but he has to find a bride in high school first. Unfortunately, he discovers shortly before entering high school that he has a half-sister, that she wants to marry him, and that she's likely going to enter the same school as him. He thus has two things to worry about: one, some of the girls might be interested in him for the sake of financial gain or the like, and two, someone among these girls is his little sister, and he does not want to go there.

The only other that comes to mind off the top of my head is Maburaho, which is set in a "modern" world with magic where magic ability plays a huge role in determining success and power. The hero at first is treated like dirt in his school because he can only cast magic 8 times before dying, far below the general average and nothing compared to everyone else in the prestigious school he attends; then it's discovered that he's descended from every great mage imaginable, including one H. Potter, and chances are with genes like that his kids will be magical super-beings and his child's mother and general family will be able to reap huge benefits by association. Suddenly every girl is after him, trying to seduce him, and a lot of them don't even care about dating or marriage; they just want him to impregnate them. The actual harem is fairly small, and in this case none of them are actually frauds, but he still has an understandably hard time believing any girl who says she likes him.

I'd generally prefer something where it's not just a matter of gold-digging like in the last one, but rather something where the hero has reason to legitimately view his harem with suspicious wariness. Perhaps there's a chance one or more wants him dead, or he's being used for something, but rather than simply wanting a relationship for their own gain, the guy thinks the girl(s) could have legitimately unpleasant plans. There are plenty of guys who'd be willing to go out with a girl knowing that she's just looking for money or stability, and plenty who would be happy to know a girl just wants to have his baby as long as he's not expected to pay child support or anything. But if the girl could really have a scheme in mind that will have bad consequences, that's a whole different matter.
