Things were really going well. We had interesting characters and a complicated plot. Then all of a sudden two things went horribly wrong.

First and less significantly we discover that Roy Mustang's great plan to kill Pride was to sneak into his house and blow him up. A lot. Say frickin' what?! He already knew that you can't kill a humonculous that way! Why did he think that he could just win on sheer moxie and chutzpah when he always planned things out carefully until now. It was horribly ironic and interesting how Pride actually died, but Mustang just got lucky. That was just bad luck on Pride's part, Mustang would have died if it had stuck to his plan.

The more significant failure of FMA is the sudden introduction of the Gate as a dimensional portal. The news that alchemical power comes from death in a parallel world seemed to be quite random and unrelated to the series up to that point. Even going through the portal was pointless and unrelated to the story. The only purpose of any of this seemed to be so that we could set things up for a movie while pretending to end the series. It bugged me because there was no connection to anything that had gone before. The Philosopher's Stone never became significant except as a McGuffin and WWII London just broke the mood of the story.

You're right. I said that, and didn't explain why. And opinions should always come with an explanation.

To me Shuffle is far away from perfection because:

1)It delivers a silly comedy for the first 11 episodes, and then suddenly we have a major drama out of the blue. Do one thing o do another one, I don't like these change of directions during an anime.
2)As a side note, those first eleven first episodes were near the unbearable for their cheesyness . Peoples keep talking about this or that arc/route. But what about the fact that we have 11 whole blank episodes, speaking of it?
3)With the change of direction of the series, there's a change of direction on the main character: Rin, from kind and firm, becomes annoyingly awkward and undecisive in all of his actions. How does this come? It's rare to see a character's attitude reverse in such a way. Why not to make him so full of flaws in the first place, instead of change it all while running?
4)Not all the routes for all of the girls were closed in a satisfactory way. Examples? Sia's route, or Kaede's route left incomplete.
5)The whole episode 18. All spent to have Rin and Asa date, and then what? The confession will come four episode later. Meanwhile precious air time has been wasted. It could have been spent better, maybe explaining something of the other unrevealed things.
6)The final episode belongs to the "what the heck" category. Rin cutting his wrists? Then and just then Asa uses magic?
And then back to school as nothing has happened? Sounds like a quite rushed off script, to me.

They're already 6 (six) if , and I've not finished.
And, hey , I can find a lot of anime worse than this as well. But when I smell the feeling of a wasted potential, as Shuffle is , I become very strict with my judgements.

Heh, it's common opinion (me too) on Karin's viewers that Winner is totally unwelcomed. I have 1 good new and 1 bad news for you.
The bad one: on episode 8 there's a disgusting amount of Winner. He's basically the protagonist.
The good news is: on episode 9 he has about 10 seconds of screen time before literally being dragged out and especially if you like Anju you won't be disappointed at all with it.

Yes, it is nonsense. I mean, since it's such a clean and polite series, I don't get why to insult it during the intro. Yes, it is dumb. Anyway, the remote is your friend here, just fastforward it. Luckily, Karin isn't one of those show where the episode starts while opening credits and musics are running. You can skip the opening and you haven't lost anything about the actual plot

Excuse me for bring this thread back from the dead . But after watching Big O I have to say that I am running into animes that could have been great but in the end something just felt short.

Probably one of the most confusing ending that I have ever ran into, I was hoping for some kind of conclusive ending but what I got was an ending that makes me want to bang my head on the table. The beginning and the middle of the show was very good, I loved the super robot fight and thought Big O's design was great. Also each battle that went on the music fitted very well and the op it self was very catchy. The characters were fun and interesting as well. Th show would have been perfect if it had a proper ending.

Darker Than Black

It could have been really great if lot of the thing in the show was explained properly such as origin of the Gate. So the show left me quite a unsatisfied.

Asa just let Rin die like the emo-bitch he is...Male harem lead is dead, female characters are let out of the vacuum, everything ends open-ended with no definite closure to either of the female characters, the best alternative to an erogame adaptation that could have any different number of endings based on the player's actions...After all, aren't harem males just destined to be hated by the audience for being the lead? Give the people what they want!
