Actually, no... most people who heard about the story laughed their asses off at the morons and nimrods who blogged it or took it as anything other than painfully absurd.

Whalers fire water at activists in Antarctic Ocean
Considering that the Sea Sherpherd are terrorists engaging in illegal acts of violence against the scientific whale research group that is approved by the government, their clashes are somewhat laughable. One side tosses "rancid butter" and "paint", while the the whale research group responds with "water guns" and "golf balls" rather than actual self-defensive actions. It sounds so much like kids at a playground. Although this is actually a serious clash but it gives a rather funny impression. |

The japanese_whalers vs Greenpeace shenanigans are very ritualistic almost like the hyper-organized Korean protesters vs riot police I recall from a few decades ago.
I'm not really fond of either the whalers ("research" -snort- more like obsolete industry with good lobbyists) or the Greenpeace interceptor activists (they end up looking a bit like PETA loons and could be more effective with filming and lobbying). I'd really hesitate to call Greenpeace or their actions "terrorist" -- that just dilutes the word. They're *annoying* and *interfering*, perhaps even *vandalistic* but they haven't blown up any whaling ships I know of. (unlike the French special units that illegally blew up the last Greenpeace ship for interfering with nuclear tests ....)

Apparently Comcast customers in Tucson, Az got something a bit unexpected during the superbowl... Porn clips. They're investigating how it got there, and giving a credit to customers though. It'd be funnier if they charged them for the content instead.

You're just diluting the word "terrorist" - it makes the word meaningless. Might as well call bankrobbers, identity thieves, and jaywalkers terrorists. That is an incredibly bad mental slope to be on.

And using the water cannon is a smart idea. In the cold Antarctic, nothing beats giving someone you hate a really bad hypothermia.

Their actions can be considered as "terrorism" but it is allowed by the international law due to the complexity of the issue. The ship is registered with Netherlands, while its crew members are mainly from the United States and Australia. Their activities of terrorism are usually seen on international waters which makes it more difficult to actually charge them with assault and terrorism. Unfortunately, the United Nations cannot intervene on it.. Edit: I think this issue is brought up in the wrong thread, considering its sensitive nature. This is supposed to be a thread on silly and odd news. Last edited by Shadow Kira01; 2009-02-03 at 16:03. Reason: added note |

And just to really jerk this thread back on track:
Bad news for catgirl and other mimimode fans:Study questions usefulness of animal-human embryos Apparently, making hybrid embryos is a lot trickier than initially advertised (actually they're hoping to use animal DNA as control switches for generating stem cells 'in a vat').
