Noone cares about original Light Novels here but vol. 9 just came out in English yesterday (and vol. 14 came out in JP on September 29th.) I wonder how many more are planned?

Perfect start. They actually added a few scenes in episodes 1 and 3 compared to LNs. I find the OP song a bit poppy for this type of series but not bad.
I am bit concerned about the tempo, though. They covered 11 out of 31 chapters of LN vol 1 so far. I hoped for them to cover vol. 1 in 6 eps as it has not much in terms of an actual plot. But if they'll have more than 24 eps total, it is fine.

Didn't expect another mass release. It's surprising trend, but welcomed all the same, especially as all animes that received this treatment deserved it.
Also Maomao is so.... well, Maomao Can't get enough of her being dork.

Maomao's dancing looks super sexy in the OP. How old is she supposed to be?
The story taking place in a totally-Chinese-but-not-actually-Chinese Imperial palace and the whole solving mysteries aspect reminds me a lot of Raven of the Inner Palace. Thankfully, the translator for this one had the good sense of keeping the names intact instead of converting them to Chinese. Japanese names are so much easier to remember than Chinese ones, plus the dissonance between what you're hearing and what you're reading is annoying. Anyway, that was pretty good. Maomao is a very fun and headstrong main character. I love how she's completely immune to Jinshi's charms and in fact pretty much hates him and that somehow arouses him. Their dynamic should be fun. I hate it and I hope this trend will die off soon.

In this case they showed 3 eps at once because it aired 2 weeks later (I presume because of Seven Spellblades odd episide number). And the names are actually mostly Chinese but the author used the ones that won't have this diffrerent reading in Japanese.
MaoMao is 17 at the start of the series (she is 20 by LN vol. 9).

Yeah. This is decent. Definitely reminiscent of Raven of the Inner Palace. I probably liked Raven a bit better at this stage, I think it way maybe a bit more clever and impactful to me, but this is not at all bad. I'll definitely watch it week to week...
I think releasing multiple episodes day one is perfectly fine... when used well. Frieren made good use of its 4 episode debut to get the point across that it was a bigger story than the first episode alone revealed. Similarly, I think Vivy made good use of its two episode opener to take its time and establish its world and story in a way that would have been totally incomplete if it had stopped at its first episode. But this... didn't need it. The first episode stands on its own perfectly well and the same day release of 2 and 3 weren't necessary to the character or world building... (But we're probably looking at a fad now. Oh well.)

I haven't watched or read Raven of the Inner Palace, but this one is actually clever despite all of the comedic bits. And the author properly thinks the plot through beforehand unlike most of LN writers. It is just the start for now.

Honestly I didn't even register this was a three episode premier until I checked Crunchyroll again and saw episodes 2 and 3 were there .
What a visually stunning OP! Maomao's dancing and lip licking leave quite the impression along with a very atmospheric and smooth theme. And of course ending on her and Jinshi . Aoi Yuki is the perfect choice for Maomao. A passive, stoic, and quirky young girl who is very intelligent for her age and social position and has a fetish for herbs and a turn-on from poisons, and immunity she's gained from experimenting on herself. Add that to Imperial China and a sense of justice and you have quite the protagonist . Man, poor Maomao's dad. Saw his daughter off like it was a typical day only for her to never come back. Was she at least able to send him a letter ? Was that Ami Koshimizu as the busty courtesan? Nice . Jeez, kidnapped in the first episode? In the first few minutes!? Though ironically she ran away from being a courtesan so that she could then be sold into a den of concubines and eunuchs . But hey, Xiaolan is a decent Misaki Kuno gal pal . Jinshi is quite the handsome and cunning man, no wonder girls swoon over him and want to spend time with him even if he is dickless...but he also seems well-connected to the Emperor. And you have to love the pairing of the guy who can make any woman blush becoming enamored with a girl who is utterly repulsed by him. I love how they get each others' goats . Man, if only Lihua hadn't been so prideful or they'd paid attention the messages, the prince would've survived. It says a lot about the strength of Gyokuyou's character that she went out of her way to inform Lihua of the treatment herself instead of just reserving it for her daughter. And it seems like her ladies-in-waiting have been with her since before she reached the palace, probably why they're so loyal . Being a lady-in-waiting comes with it's perks...free food, poison, and girls who look out for you (somewhat misguidedly) and even realize your situation and know how to screw over your kidnappers in a way while also properly benefiting you . Gaoshun seems cool and chill. It's always great to hear Katsuyuki Konishi ! Find something that makes you do a jig like having access to your own drug room does for Maomao . What would you do for the sake of true love? Especially when you're roped into being a concubine for an Emperor? Why, pull an act that lets you avoid having sex with a man you don't love and make yourself off into some crazed loon so you can be let go and get sent to the one man you wanted to be with who earned the chance to be with you. It's enough to make a popular concubine wistful for the kind of freedom to be with the man you love. And the montage of Fuyou and the soldier falling in love was so convincingly sweet . That's the Emperor? He definitely doesn't look like somebody you want to mess with . The ED is pretty simple with Maomao falling through all the herbs but it's also rather pleasant to listen to as well .

She is pragmatic one. Inner palace maidservants are let go after 2 years of work and there was nothing she could do to get released earlier. Kidnappers bribed the responcible official to forge the documents and make it look like caretakers sold her for servitude (while kidnapping girls for it is illegal, families or guardians selling them is not and it is prerty common among local pesantry). So she just plan to work her due without erning to much and get back home.
What you hoped her to do? To fight 3 grown up man to avoid the situation? Or to complain to the officials in the palace? And now while her plan to lie low failed, after promotion she at least makes money for herself and does what she likes.

This show has strong Saiunkoku Monogatari vibes for me. I've been a fan of both lead's seiyuu for some time, Yuuki Aoi in this case, and Kuwashima Houko as Shurrei in Saiunkoku.
Some of the visuals are stunning. OLM's work or Toho's? Are we supposed to wonder if Jinshi is actually a eunuch? If he is "intact," he may find himself losing something even more valuable than the family jewels, namely his head.
