Pony Canyon announced The Rolling Girls, the first original television anime from Wit Studio (anime adaptations of Attack on Titan, Hozuki no Reitetsu). Kotomi Deai (second Silver Spoon season) is directing the anime, and Yasuyuki Muto (Sengoku Basara: Samurai Kings franchise) is writing the scripts. Artist tanu (Tari Tari) is reponsible for the original character designs concepts, and Katsuhiko Kitada (Hal) is reponsible for the character designs.

Spoiler for Episode 1:

For anyone who enjoyed Magica Wars (me included), this is a series about people from different prefectures possessing superpowers borrowed from the cities when they are raised in, so if you liked MW, you'll enjoy this one (even though it isn't a must as we know it).

I'm surprised Tomokazu Seki did the narration at the very beginning, you'll see why I'm giggling over him babbling over freakin' everything! The artwork is extremely devoided of details (not to say it is bad, in my mind of course), however we can apparently say it isn't done out of laziness as with most other series with similar aesthetics. I liked the background art, it is similar to Studio Pablo but with even more diversified range of colors and prop designs slapped atop the screen. The story isn't worth much to be talking about as of yet, but from what I hear so far, it's basically Tokyo Tribe 2 meets Magica Wars, as in a show that takes place in a world where the Japanese prefectures are turned into independant countries and has the street fighters possessing superpowers to combat against street gangs from other countries-turned prefectures. It is a very imaginative synopsis even if the execution is very plain so far.

Watching the ending gives me surprisingly higher hopes than I expected, it made me want to watch the rest even though I have stronger vibes it'll turn dark like a couple of other anime originals that started with lighthearted themes but devolve into something else quickly.

Before creating a hostage crisis and forcing us to pick sides, I sure as hell wish the show made an effort to tell us what the point of the story is. Is the show just gonna be about a bunch of pissing contests between 'Bests' vying for territory or is it gonna be about background characters banding together to express their individualism and finally taking a stand against Bests?

These people had the perfect chance to create a non-hierarchical society after the world leaders and the ruling class disappeared, but instead, they became even more territorial after they chose to divide themselves into factions as they fight over outdated ideals.

Anarchical rant aside, what I liked the most about the show was the colorful and dynamic feel of the art and animation respectively. Also, it stinks of hippy from top to toe. It reminded me of Fooly Cooly in a lot of ways. I sure as hell hope the show cranks up the crazy and goes batshit insane 'cause its spontaneity is its best weapon so far. I actually liked the impromptu noodle battle the two Bests had all of a sudden.

So far, its just "yea we made up a bunch of characters" and threw them in interacting with eachother with no real background.

Better than I had expected but I had almost idea what I was watching in regards with the story. Loved the way the animation was done though as it felt unorthodox yet appealing. The ED song was well decorated too and the bikes are so far well designed.

I got some Kill la Kill and Zvezda vibes as well.

Heh, wow. I didn't think that Saekano and Rolling Girls out of all titles will be competing for the best opening episode. IMO disclaimer, ofc., but heck, is it fun. Actually, no, Rolling Girls's the best, what with me being totally unable to predict what's going to happen next. Quite unlike Saekano's 'each girl's gonna have a scene' in the pilot. Whatever.

Anyway, I'm having quite a lot of fun with Rolling Girls, so it's probably going to be one of candidates for AOTS for me. Also, it triggers my nostalgia with Green Ranger's suit knockoff.

That was fun. No idea where the story's going right now, but that's part of the fun, so long as it goes somewhere. I really enjoyed it and I want to see how it rolls.

I'm guessing one is going to need to have good knowledge on the prefectural geography of Japan in order to understand the jokes and plotlines based on territorial disputes, so I guess that means I'm not going to understand a damn thing.

But at least it has style and zaniness that I can appreciate. The premiere didn't really make the characters all that engaging when it established the relationships between them, but hopefully once the story expands on the context of those relationships they'll become more interesting.

Great beginning, looks like WIT Studio has the potential best anime of the season in the bag once again. Lots of material to look forward to with 10 different factions/states and Nozomi's four girl team is not even formed yet.

Visuals and music both fantastic, as expected of WIT. OP is nice but sadly no proper video yet, ED is decent.
