Here's a preview for the Coleen fanfic you suggested, Runty. It was a cool idea, so while I'm fighting writers block with the Magari one, I'll post a preview here for my newest work.
Spoiler for Coleen one-hit:
The Feast of all spirits was fast approaching, the time when all the spirits of Gallia come together to share their love for one another. For one man however, it would be the first that he would not have to spend alone, envying the other couples. He now had a very beautiful woman by his side this year, one he had only recently been dating. Her name was Coleen Celsius, and she was the girlfriend of Morris Lling, an armoured tech from Class G.
The two started dating by some strange twist of fate. After each set out to the Daws desert to find moon glow flower, a symbol of ones love and devotion as it takes iron will and determination to search for it in the cold of night, among other dangerous things in the desert area where they grow. Both successfully found a flower and gave them to one another. No other words were needed, they both knew how hard they had to search, how hard they had to fight to get it and the feeling they got when they finally found it.
They were prepared to spend the festival together, but first came a pretty daunting task… meeting Coleen’s parents. They would be arriving at the academy very soon and Coleen had yet to tell them of her new boyfriend that she had.
As the two walked towards the front gates, hand in hand, Coleen suddenly let go of Morris’s hand.
“Something wrong?” he asked.
“Not really, no. It’s just that… I’m not sure how this is going to play out. And this is the first time I’ve actually had a boyfriend, as my parents wouldn’t let me date because… they didn’t think anyone was ever good enough for me.”
Morris gulped loudly, “S-so… What should we do? Should we pretend that we’re just good friends while they’re here and keep a professional distance from one another?”
Coleen shook her head and fiddled with the decorative flower on her hairband, “No, we’re going to do it! We’re going to show them that we are a couple! A happy couple!
I’m eighteen years old now, an adult, and I think it should now be my decision who I date!”
Morris smiled, “T-thanks, Coleen. Ok, we’ll act normally around them then.”
A few minutes later, the two were waiting by the front gates, when they happened to notice a very expensive looking, long and grey Rolls Royce pulling up.
“They’re here…” Coleen said nervously.
Morris’s mouth dropped open, “Coleen! You’re parents… are rich?!”
“Yep, it’s why they never let me date when I was younger… I think I forgot to mention they wanted to set me up with an arranged marriage once I graduated…”
“Oh no…” Morris said, now all of his confidence was shot. His family was no where near rich, or famous. They were just your average citizens, with an average salary, living in an average home.
A driver dressed in chauffer’s suit and hat stepped out, walked to the back of the Roll's and opened the door, and out stepped a man in an expensive looking business suit and a woman in a silky white dress, gloves and large round hat, despite the weather, she was also wearing animal fur around her neck.
Coleen swallowed hard, and then approached, “Welcome to Lanseal academy, Mother, Father. I wasn’t expecting you to be here on such short notice…”
Coleens father removed some white gloves he was wearing and passed them to the driver. He took them and bowed.
“Yes, well, I just wanted to make sure that our money was being well spent and to check up on your progress here at the academy.” the father said plainly.
The mother took her husbands arm and started to walk with him, while Coleen tried to say, “Oh, Mother, Father, there’s someone here that I’d like you to--”
“You there, boy.” said Coleen’s father while pointing to Morris, “Take our suitcases out of the trunk and follow us.”
“What?” said Morris.
“Are you hard of hearing?” The mother asked, “My husband told you to take our suitcases out of the back, that is why you are standing here, right? To serve us?”
Morris shot a glance at Coleen and she fidgeted with her hands for a moment, then nodded her head.
“Yes, sir! Right away, sir!” Morris said while saluting.
Once he got to the back however, he noticed that what they had back there weren’t really suitcases, but large trunks on wheels. He took a deep, nervous breath and struggled hard to get the first one out of the back while grunting and groaning in effort.
Coleens father took a pocket watch out of his fancy vest and looked at it, “Come on, boy. We haven’t got all day.”
“I hope that not all Lanseal boys are this weak.” Coleen’s mother said uncaringly and loud enough for Morris to hear.
That did it, “Mother! Do not say such a horrible thing to my boyfriend!” Coleen cried out in Morris’ defence.
Both of their heads turned to their daughter and in unison they said, “Boyfriend?! Him?!”
Coleen cupped her hands over her mouth, not able to believe that she spoke back to her mother and spilled the beans so carelessly.
Coleen’s father looked at Morris and he glared, “This is unacceptable, Coleen!” he yelled, “No daughter of mine will be with such a weak specimen like him!”
“I’m not a little girl anymore, Father,” Coleen said, “I’m eighteen now, and Morris is my boyfriend and I’m happy being with him.”
“Come now, child. You wouldn’t last two minutes without our money and support.” Coleen’s mother said, “Up until now, you’ve had it easy. Not a care in the world, because we looked after you and provided you with the best that money could buy.
Now you take this small, puny thing and dare call him a suitable boyfriend?”
All the while, Morris’ eyes were pointing down at the ground, he was unable to say anything in his defence or Coleen’s.
“Don’t call him that, Mother! You have no idea what he’s done for me and how much he’s helped me here at the academy.” Coleen then turned to Morris, “Go on, Morris! Tell them! Tell them how you feel about me. Tell them about the moon glow and what you did to get it for me!”
“I… I…” Morris croaked.
“I hate him, already,” Coleen’s father said, “Not only is he small and frail, he’s got no backbone at all. And I will not have such a weakling dating my daughter.”
He then strode up to Morris, “Listen well, boy. You will stay away from my daughter from now on. She deserves better, you know that, and I know that.”
“Father, Stop it!” Coleen screeched.
“Morris! Say something! Stand up for yourself!” Coleen urged.
Morris was trembling greatly, sweat running down his forehad, “I… I…” He then turned and ran as fast as he could back to the academy, tears streaming down his cheeks.
“Look what you did!” Coleen screamed, “How could you be so cruel to him!”
“Coleen! Sit!” Her father ordered while pointing to the open Cadillac door.
Her fathers raised voice made her stop and without thinking, she already found her self sitting in the car, her parents standing in front of her.
Coleen’s mother shook her head, “If a few simple cruel words were enough to send that boy running, then he’s not right for you.”
“You’re wrong, Mother! Morris is a great man, you have no idea what he-”
“Silence! We taught you better than that!” Coleen’s father roared, “That boy is a coward and a weakling, Coleen! Completely wrong for someone of your standing.”
“You were our pride and joy, Coleen. Which is why we sent you to such a prestigious academy, in the hopes that you’d find a wealthy, strong man on a path for an officers career in the military.
And this is how you repay us? By selecting a mere peasant, weak as that boy? We’re deeply disappointed, Coleen…”
Coleen was close to tears, “That’s not fair! It should be my choice-”
Lanseals bells then tolled, ringing loudly across the whole school grounds.
“What’s that?” Coleen’s father asked as he turned his head towards the bells, high above the tower in the distance.
“We’re being summoned… thank goodness…” Coleen said under her breath.
“What was that?” Coleen’s mother asked.
“Nothing, It means that the cadets have just been summoned to battle. I have to go now!”
And Coleen took off, leaving her parents standing just outside the front gates.
Moments later, Coleen entered the classroom and already saw much of the class getting their equipment and weapons out of the storage lockers at the back of the room. She also saw Morris getting suited up and was just about to go over to him, but Professor Brixham started speaking.
“Listen up, Class!” he said, “We’ve been summoned to the Diebal mountains! That region is currently under attack by the Rebels’ 4th mortar squad, the ‘Rain of torment’ and the residents there are taking heavy losses.
There’s no time to waste, we must rush to their aid, so get ready and we’ll move out immediately!”
After hearing this, Coleen decided not to waste any time, not even with Morris and got suited up and grabbed her lance. Moments later, all of Class G were piled into numerous transport trucks and heading out of the academy and on their way to the Diebal mountains. Morris and Coleen weren’t together in the truck, so there was no time for talk here as well and it was eating at Coleen. She had to set things right.
That's all I have for now, not much, but it's a start.
Any good? Suggestions?
-I'm not sure whether to make Coleen mad at Morris for not standing up for himself, later on?
-Or if Morris might realize that he probably isn't right for her and wants to call things off.
Something that'll set a good sense of drama right before they get separated and 'stuck' with eachother, I'm not sure who I should make mad at who or how.
Making Coleens parents rich and arrogant seemed like the only right move to make.
Nice intro sequence. And good choice with the "Rain of Torment" Rebel squad. You really made Coleen's parents jerks, and I think it's pretty humorous.
Spoiler for Suggestions:
I'd not have Coleen being mad at Morris, but have her be more mad at her parents for bullying him. Although I do think that Morris trying (for a short time) to break it off with Coleen could make a good set-up for why the two get stranded in the cabin.
Here's how it could work: after Class G thinks the battle is over, Morris decides to talk to Coleen, and tries to break off their relationship. Coleen does not take it well and runs off, prompting Morris to chase her because he's having second thoughts about his decision, seeing how much he hurt her. But as he chases her, the Rebels launch a counterattack. Coleen, in her distress, ends up running onto a frozen pond, but trips and hurts her leg, leaving her unable to run. One of the Rebel mortarers spots her and fires, though Morris shoots him with a pistol a mere second after the Rebel fires his shot. The mortar round misses Coleen, but causes the ice to break, sending her into the water. Morris, without thinking, dives in after her and pulls her out.
I'll let you decide how to go from there.
Although, for the ending sequence, if you have a scene where Coleen's parents are again admonishing Coleen for choosing Morris, have Morris stand up for himself, as well as having a few other Lanseal cadets backing him up.
Say, Snowman, to tide us by, think you could give a preview of how you revised the classroom scene for your Magari fic? I felt that how you ended it when Avan brought Jarde into the classroom was a little... abrupt.
As Joachim would say, "Yeah, ok, sure!"
BTW How do you say his name? I've been calling him "Joe-Ah-Chim"
Spoiler for Magari re-done preview 2:
Now even more students were leaving their desks and crowding around Avans in order to see what was happening.
Professor Brixham walked up to this desk and stood next to Welking, “Avan! What seems to be the problem?” he asked, tapping his pointer on top of the desk impatiently. Getting Welkin to come in for a visit was no easy task and now his lesson time was being interrupted up by Avan.
“It’s alright, Jarde…” Avan said worriedly, ignoring Professor Brixhams question. His gaze then shifted to Jardes beak, still clutching something very tightly as he panted, purely worn out and hurting.
“Hmmm… what’s this?” Avan asked as he picked out whatever it was that Jarde was holding onto. He could now see that it was a piece of soft fabric, he unravelled it and now saw a familiar looking pattern.
Avan gasped and turned to Zeri and asked, “Zeri! Is this what I think it is?”
Zeri took the item from Avan, adjusted his glasses with his other hand and examined it closely. After careful examination, his eyes looked over to Mischlitt and she nodded her head. She also recognized what it was, then answered, “…Yes… this item bears the Darcsen colors and pattern… But where did it come from?”
Meanwhile Welkin was making his way over to the crowd of students all chattering loudly, Rene however muscled her way past everyone else and snatched the hair braid out of Zeri’s hand. Then, everyone could see the looked of fear and panic begin to set into her face.
“This… this is Magaris’ hair brai--” Rene’s head then snapped back and looked at Magari’s empty desk and she gasped loudly. “No! Magari!”
Avan turned away from tending to Jarde and asked, “What’s wrong, Rene? What’s this about Magari?”
Rene turned to Avan and held out the hair braid and responded with, “Avan! This is Magaris’ hair braid, I’m absolutely certain of it!!
I just know that something terrible must have happened to her! We have to find her!”
Now, Welkin was also getting worried, Magari regularly dropped by his home for tutoring sessions whenever she was free. And… there was another reason he treasured being in her presence, but this he kept to himself for now.
“Has anyone see Magari today?” Welkin asked aloud.
No one answered at first, then a single hand began to rise from the crowd, it belonged to Nichol, “I-I saw her t-this morning, sir. She was heading for the front gates, fully dressed in her engineers gear… like she was going out for a mission or something.”
Rene ran up to Nichol and took him by the shoulders and shaking him asked, “When? When?!”
Nichol’s eyes looked down to the floor as he tried to recall, “I-I think around Seven o’clock this morning… maybe earlier. She was alone, too.”
“And you didn’t say anything to any of us! Didn’t tell anyone that she was going out on her own? Why would you do that?!”
Franca stepped in between the two and broke Rene’s hold from his arms. Then placed her arm protectively in front of her younger brother, glared at Rene and warned her by saying, “Keep your hands off my brother! He’s trying to help you!”
Rene shook her head and turned her back to Franca and Nichol and was now breathing heavier, getting worked up.
“I-I’m sorry… I just assumed that she had gotten permission and was allowed to go out. Perhaps I… should have talked to her or did something, I’m sorry…” Nichol said apologetically.
Franca turned to Nichol and shook her head, “You don’t need to apologize for anything, Nichol. You did nothing wrong. I doubt Magari would have said anything to you anyway, she’s not a people person.”
“Magari’s in trouble guys! We have to go out and find her!" Rene screeched.
No one moved, but many looked worried or were uncertain about what to do. It was true that Magari was missing, but was she really in as much trouble as Rene was telling everyone?
Fed up, Rene pushed her way past everyone else and ran to the back of the classroom and opened one of the storage lockers that held all of the classes weapons, gear and tools. She then dug out a lancer uniform, armour and all and began to get suited up as fast as she could.
Professor Brixham called out to Rene, “Miss Randall! You are not allowed to open those lockers unless you have been summoned for a mission!”
Rene stood up and with wide eyes and cried, “Magari's in trouble! Can’t anyone see that! Am I the only one who knows this to be true?!”
Some of the students backed up a few steps. Rene was always so calm, kind, caring and smiling. Now, she was different and behaving in a way that no one had ever seen before. Rene shook her head and continued to put her lancer gear on.
Now some people were beginning to get scared, such as Cosette at Rene’s extreme change of behaviour. She walked over to Avan and took hold of him for comfort. Now, even he couldn’t find the words to calm this escalating situation.
Alexis however was the first to approach Rene and look down at her and say, “Calm down, Rene. How can you be so certain this? How can you tell so much just from seeing what you believe to be Magari‘s hair braid?” Alexis asked.
Rene turned to Alexis, by this time she was trembling and breathing heavily, “It’s because she would never, ever leave something so precious behind! Not if she could help it!”
“Hmmm… I do not understand what you mean.” Alexis said.
“She means that it was given to Magari by someone who deeply cared for her. Perhaps her mother or father or someone just as important to her,” Mischlitt said, “We Darcsen do not simply go out to a store and buy these Darcsen patterned items that we wear. Whether it be a cloak, a hair braid, an arm band or anything else.
No, each and every one of them was carefully hand-made and stitched by someone close to us. Such as our parents, relatives, best friends and upon completion they are given to us as a gift or to protect us if its a charm. It‘s because of this that their value to us is irreplaceable.
Rene knows this as well I'm sure, being Magari's best friend. It's why she knows Magari or any other Darcsen would never lose something such as this so carelessly.”
Zeri nodded, “We take great pride in owning them and will go to great lengths to protect them. Darcsen in the past have been known to be killed by slave hunters because they were too proud to remove them upon command.
So I too believe that something must have happened to Magari if she has lost something so meaningful to her.”
Rene nodded, “Magari has two hair-braids, one was made by her mother, the other by her father! They were given to her when she and I left for the Academy. That's how I know that something must have happened to her if she has become separated from her beloved hair braid!”
“Hmm… your explanation is sound,” Alexis admitted. She then headed to the back of the room as well and began to take out her Fencers uniform, gear and sword.
Rene gasped and asked, “Alexis? What are you-”
“You’ll need help if you’re going out to look for her. So I’ll go too.”
Avan smiled, walked up to Rene and placed his hand on her shoulder, “We believe you, Rene. I believe you… Jarde wouldn’t have come here in the middle of class if something wasn‘t wrong. He knows better.
I know that Jarde loves Magari… she’s always feeding him, playing with him and I usually send him over to her to take care of him when I‘m away. They had to have been together when whatever happened to her, happened to her.”
Professor Brixham made his way through the crowd and sighed, “Class, I do not think we can send all of you out on this rescue mission as you call it. What if something happens while you are away? We have to always be ready to move out if we are summoned.”
As Brixham was speaking; Avan, Zeri, Cosette, Alexis and Mischlitt had already made their way over to the lockers and were retrieving their shock trooper, engineer, armoured tech and scout equipment and weapons. They had already made up their mind about joining Rene in going out to find Magari.
Seeing that his words were having no affect, Brixham finally asked, “More importantly… do you even know where to begin looking for her? She could be anywhere if she’s not on the academy grounds.”
Everyone who was getting ready finally stopped and looked at Brixham, they hadn’t thought of that yet.
Rene turned to Avan and asked, “What about Jarde? Can we get him to lead us back to where they last were?”
Avan turned to Coleen, who had taken over tending to Jarde. She looked up at Avan and the others and shook her head, “No… He’s hurt really bad, Avan. I’m surprised he was able to fly back here with how badly his wing's been injured.”
Zeri was rubbing his chin, thinking hard about something that was bothering him, so he said, “I’m more curious about how she managed to leave the academy in the first place. The front gates are usually sealed so early in the morning and the academy is surrounded by a moat with only one bridge leading out. So how did she manage to leave so easily?” Zeri said.
Professor Brixham shrugged, “No idea… I’d never allow Magari to leave so early in the morning and by herself. She must have gotten clearance from the head master. He and he alone would be the only one able to give such special permission for her to leave like that.”
Avan nodded, stood up and was now dressed in his scouts gear, he turned to the others and said, “Alright guys, I’m off to speak to the head master to find out if he knows where Magari has gone.
If anyone else is coming, then get suited up and be ready to move out as soon as I return.”
Just as Avan left the classroom, he noticed that Welkin was standing outside, “Hey, Avan. I’d like to come with you to the head masters office.”
“Hmm, what for?” Avan asked.
Welkin sighed, “I have a pretty good idea of where Magari went…”
“You do? Where?”
Welkin shook his head, “We'll find that out for certain once we ask the head master. So let’s go.”
Avan wasn’t going to say no to a war hero, so he lead while Welkin followed. There were no words spoken between the two as they ran across the academy grounds towards the head masters office.
A few minutes later, Welkin and Avan were standing in front of the head masters desk. He was listening to Avan tell the story of what happened in the class room, Rene’s thoughts on the matter and the search and rescue plan that they had in mind.
After all was explained, the Head Master leaned back in his chair and sighed, “I see… so you all believe that Magari has run into some sort of trouble during her leave from the academy?”
“Yes, sir, we do. We were wondering if you happen to know where she went?”
The Head Master thought for a moment then said, “Ah yes, I remember now. She requested leave for a research assignment, a rather peculiar one. But, she has always gotten permission straight from me in the past for these such trips before.”
“Where did she go?”
“She went to the woods of-”
“LeanBluff.” Welkin and the Head Master said at the same time.
Avan turned his head to Welkin, “Huh?!”
“I see… she went there to study today’s topic for our evening tutoring session. It‘s the only other place besides the Woods of Kloden, which is up in the north, to study Porcavians in their natural habitat.” said Welkin.
“Magari went there to study pigs?! What?!” Avan asked as he scratched his head.
“What else were you expecting?” Welkin asked.
Avan shook his head, “I don’t know… that she volunteered for a patrol or went out there for a mission… just not this…”
Avan shrugged, turned to the head master and said, “Now that you know the situation sir, can I have your approval for a search and rescue mission?”
The head master rubbed his chin, “Hmmm… I can only approve for a small party to head that way, not the whole class. Word is that the Rebels are planning to make a push north sometime soon. If Magari is in trouble, it might be because the Rebels have already advanced into the Leanbluff woods and captured her.”
Welkin then leaned forward and placed his hands on the head masters desk and said, “Sir, I’d like to accompany them into the woods.”
“What? No, Welkin, you don’t have to do that. We can handle it!” Avan said.
Welkin turned to Avan, “I feel mostly responsible for her being out there in the first place. And I am her nature and history tutor, which makes me feel quite close to her now. So it should be me who goes more than anyone.”
The head master nodded, “Very well, if it’s a famous war hero that is going out into the woods, it’ll make it that much easier to write up the order.”
“What?” Avan asked.
“The EW2 war hero, Welkin Gunther, is heading out into the Leanbluff woods on a mission of his own and an escort unit of Class G shall accompany him. How does that sound, better?”
Avan grinned, “Yes sir, it does!”
“Very well, you have my permission to head out into the Leanbluff woods. But remember; this is a rescue mission, so find Magari and bring her back as quick as you can. If she was captured, the Rebel units in that area may only be a vanguard unit, with the rest of the Rebel army not be far behind them.
Take only who you feel would be best for this mission. We may need the other students if the rebels are pushing anywhere else from the south.”
Now with permission granted, Welkin and Avan left the office and got ready to move out. Avan headed back to the classroom to gather those who were coming and Welkin went back to his home on the Academy grounds to get ready as well.
Once Avan was back in the classroom; He saw Rene, Cosette, Zeri, Mischlitt, Noel, Nichol, Franca, Alexis, Melissa, Lotte and Anisette all suited up in their gear and ready to move out.
“Alright guys, we’ve just gotten permission from the head master and our destination is the Leanbluff woods! That’s where Magari was headed this morning, so let’s go!”
Professor Brixham face palmed himself and sighed, “Guess there’s no stopping you. But I trust that you’re not all going?”
Avan shook his head, “Nah, we should only need these eleven volunteers, the rest are to remain here and await orders to move out. In case the Rebels are making a push north.”
“So what are we waiting for? Let’s go! Hurry!” Rene implored.
And she lead the way, the others following close behind her. But as soon as they left the school and headed for the front gates, Avan took off in another direction, he turned his head towards the others.
“I’ll be right back guys! I need to check on Welkin Gunther! He‘s coming along too!” Avan shouted as he ran.
“What?!” Anisette asked, “THE Welkin Gunther is coming on this mission… no way! Now‘s my chance to see if all the stories my sister told about him are true!”
Lotte laughed, “Haha! I knew my reporters sixth sense was correct in making me come along! I’m sure to land a major scoop here!”
A small smile curved up on Alexis’s lips, “Hmmm… a chance to see how a real war veteran fights and leads.”
“Whatever, I’m not interested in all that. My only interest is protecting Zeri! No one’s gonna hurt ya… not on my watch, tee-hee-hee!” Melissa snickered quietly.
Zeri looked over at Mischlitt, she nodded in response. They both had a very good idea as to why Welkin was coming along. Being Darcsen themselves, they knew something about Welkin’s past that others might not know.
A short while later, Avan arrived at the Gunther household. Avan was just about to knock on the door, but from the side window, which was open, he could hear Alicia seemingly arguing with Welkin.
“Welkin! You don’t have to go on this mission!”
“Yes I do, she’s my student and I feel a strong sense of responsibility in getting her back safe and sound. She went out there to study our topic for todays discussion.”
Avan could hear Alicia sigh, “Welkin… I didn’t want to say anything, because you seemed so happy… And I admit that there‘s a resemblance, but Magari isn‘t Isara…”
Avan didn’t like to Eavesdrop, but this was something he hadn’t heard about.
"Who's Isara?" Avan asked silently.
“I couldn’t do anything to help Isara… you remember that right? Well, here I have a chance to do what I couldn’t do for her! I have to try!”
“Welkin, we’ve already fought and lived through a very tough war. We earned our retirement, let the other cadets handle this.”
Avan hated to interfere, but they needed to get moving, it was already getting late into the afternoon. So he knocked on the door, and waited.
“Avan’s here, I have to get going. Don’t worry. Everything’s going to be alright, you’ve got to trust me, Alicia.”
“Alright… I understand why you feel you need to do this. Just remember that there’s a difference between these two…”
Avan could hear Welkin coming to the front door now, but heard Alicia call out to him, “And Welkin! You had better be back before tomorrow evening… otherwise… I’m going to have to come out and find you myself. And you know what that means!”
“Yeah I know, we wouldn’t want that to happen.”
Welkin then answered the door and to Avans surprise, he was dressed in a militia uniform, closer inspection revealed that it was his old Squad Seven uniform.
“Alright Avan, I’m ready.” Welkin said. He noticed Avan staring at his uniform, “Hehe, yeah, I know. I can’t believe I’m wearing this old relic, but we do need a way to differentiate each other from the enemy. And it helps get me back into the feel of my old fighting days.”
“Hehe, good idea sir. I’m sure we’ll succeed with you on our side!”
Minutes later, they were at the front gates where the rest of the squad was waiting. This time, Lavinia was waiting with Class G’s APC. A small blue jeep was also nearby, with Zeri at the wheel.
The other students began to whisper and point as they watched Welkin walk by in his old Squad 7 uniform, cap and all his old gear, including his flare gun. Welkin then stood next to the jeep.
He then turned to everyone and said, “Alright, time to head to the Leanbluff woods and bring Magari home!”
Everyone raised their weapons, cheered and climbed into the APC. Avan and Cosette climbed into the back of the jeep. Welkin looked back to confirm that everyone was in, then with a wave of his hand, he ordered, “Class G, Move out!”
The Jeep lead the way with the APC following right behind them and they left the academy, drove over the bridge and down the dirt road leading towards the Leanbluff woods. Hopefully, they’d get there before nightfall.
Sometime later, deep into the Leanbluff woods stood the Rebels vanguard encampment. Their party was small, a little less than twenty soldiers and their one Darcsen prisoner. And it was only now that Magari was beginning to come to.
Her eyes slowly fluttered open, her head lifted up. But her body felt constricted, she could not move her arms, which were behind her back. She found that they were tied to a pole. There was a rag wrapped over her mouth that muffled any words or sounds that she tried to make. She jerked her entire body left and right a few times to try to escape when the flap to the tent opened up and there stood the huge fencer she had encountered earlier.
“Ah, I see you’re awake,” said the Fencer as he took of his helmet and set it down. He then knelt down in front of Magari and took her by the chin and lifted her head up in order to look into her eyes.
“No fear.” said the fencer with a smile, “Even though you know what we plan to do with you before we ultimately kill you.
I must admit, you are so very beautiful… for a dark-hair. If only the rest of your female race were this pretty, we’d have a much harder time shooting them all.”
He then pulled down the rag over Magari’s mouth and smiled while still clutching her chin. “Does that make you angry to hear?”
Magari shook her head, “My people do not retaliate, we do not become angry so easily either.”
The Fencer stood up and laughed, “No, you don’t and that is why we are having such an easy time exterminating your kind. Every village we’ve been to, we just gun everyone down and they do not put up the slightest amount of resistance. If you keep this up, it shouldn’t be long before this wars over.”
He then got up and began to back out of the tent, “I’ll be back for you later... because right now... we’ve got a deserter to find and take care of.”
Magari then lowered her head and breathed a sigh of relief, she was safe. Not only that, she had hid her real fear quite well under pressure. The truth was that the whole idea of being inside a rebel encampment, fearing for the moment when they would come to beat and rape her over and over again was a terrible fate to wait for.
Sometime later, a few kilo meters away, Class G's APC and the jeep could go no further into the woods. They would make too much noise and have a hard time maneuvering through the woods. They would have to continue on foot here, at the last location that Magari was known to have been.
“Now that we’re here… where do we begin?” Mischlitt asked.
Avan reached back to his rear pouch, “The head master gave us a map that Magari had given him before she headed out. It shows the route that she planned to take.” said Avan, showing the map to the rest of the cadets that formed a circle around him.
But though the given route wasn’t deep into the woods, it was a long route all along the outskirts.
Zeri adjusted his glasses with his middle finger and groaned, “It’ll take some time to search this whole route… and that's if she didn't venture off further into the woods.”
Avan nodded, “I know, but we have to try. Maybe if we--”
“EEEKK!” Cosette screeched as she unbuckled her belt and threw away her pouch packs, “S-s-something’s inside my pouch! I could feel it moving around!”
Everyone looked and saw a little bulge sticking out from one of Cosettes pouches, and it really was moving around. So Avan slowly crept forward, picked up the pouch, opened it and peered inside.
“Jarde?” Avan asked aloud, “Buddy, what are you doing here? I thought I left you back at the academy?!”
Avan then lifted Jarde out of the pouch and he began to chirp and whistle. “Alright, buddy, I think it’s time to go back into the pouch, we can leave you back at the APC with--”
But Jarde took off from Avans hand and tried to fly, but quickly fell to the ground on his back. “Easy boy, don’t hurt yourself!” Avan warned and he tried to pick Jarde up. But this time Jarde actually pecked his hand, then tried to fly once more. This time he was successfully. While he was in the air, he turned to the others and began chirping loudly, then took off to the north.
“Strange bird…” Anisette said
Avan meanwhile started to jog away from the group, following Jarde. He turned and yelled, “Come on guys! Jarde was the last one with Magari! He must be leading us to where he last saw her!”
Welkin nodded, “Birds like Jarde are known for their extreme homing skills. I guarantee that he’ll have no trouble leading us back to where he and Magari last were.”
The entire group then began to follow Avan as he looked up at the sky and continued to run after Jarde.
After a few minutes of running, Jarde descended from the sky and into the trees, then came upon a familiar clearing. With much pain in his wing, Jarde could barely stay afloat, so now he dropped his wings and fell the rest of the way. His poor body came crashing to the ground and skidded to a stop, not far from the scene of the struggle between Magari and her captors.
Avan and the others then emerged from the bushes and brush that they were running through. A quick look around the area showed that there were once many people here and signs of a struggle. There were many disturbed bushes, flattened grass and broken branches all around. Avan also saw Jarde lying on his back, so he ran up to him and scooped him up.
“Good job, boy. Even though you were injured, you helped us find the spot that we were looking for!”
“Spread out! Search the area!” Avan ordered.
Everyone headed off in a different direction and began checking for any clues as to what happened or where Magari or anyone else with her may have gone.
A short while into the search, Mischlitt laid her warhammer down and knelt on the ground to inspect something that had caught her eye. She then lifted her head and called for Zeri. He came running and knelt down as well, Mischlitt was showing him what she had collected off of the ground.
“Darcsen hair…” Mischlitt said after showing him the few long strands that she had found.
Zeri nodded, “Hmm… no mistake about it.”
“What was that?!” Rene asked as she pushed her way past Zeri, nearly knocking him over and took the few strands from Mischlitt, “No… it can’t be…”
“Don’t worry, Rene,” Mischlitt said calmly, “There’s no blood or spent cartridges lying around. So there wasn’t a fight here, that’s for certain.”
“I found something!” Avan called out from some bushes he was kneeling in. He then stood up and held up two objects. One was a pair of binoculars, the other was a piece of bread.
Cosette, who was nearby, ran up to Avan and looked at what he had collected. Then she took the piece of bread and sniffed it, a rather strange action, then said, “This bread had to have been made by Alicia. No doubt about it.”
Zeri walked up to them, then asked “How can you be so sure?”
Avan shook his head, “She eats it everyday and nearly buys out the bakery when she goes there. So she knows Alicias bread when she smells it.”
To their left, Anisette and Noel were kneeling against the ground, inspecting the many boot prints scattered about. One set was unique, the others were the same.
“These are Lanseal academy combat boots,” Noel pointed out to the smaller pair of footprints.
Anisette nodded, “And these have to be rebel combat boots… It confirms what we were worrying about. Magari was taken by the rebels.”
“B-but why?” Nichol asked, “Don’t the rebels usually kill any Darcsens they come across…?”
“Nichol!” Franca barked, smacking him in the back of the head, then tilting her head to Rene who was standing close by.
“Ow… sorry, Rene…” Nichol apologized.
Rene shook her head and walked away, worrying about all the time they were wasting, trying to figure out the obvious. Magari was taken, and she was probably only spared because of her beauty, that was something that even Rene could figure out on her own. Even worse, she knew what the fate of someone as beautiful as her would most likely be.
Just as she finished that thought, Alexis shouted to the group, “It’s a scout!”
Everyones head turned and looked to where Alexis was pointing, and standing there was a lone Rebel with a rifle. The strange thing was that he looked petrified with fear, not something common among the Rebel army.
Rene then shouted, “He probably knows where Magari is! Let’s take him prisoner!!” The rebel then turned and ran into the woods as fast as he could. Rene dropped her lance, took out her pistol and began to give chase.
The others were about to follow, but Welkin stopped them, saying, “Hang on, Class! He may not be alone! And this could be a trap!”
Rene looked back as she ran and saw the rest of the class hanging back. Shrilly, she implored them for all that she was worth, “Come on guys! He’s getting away! Hurry!!”
Unable to hold himself in place, the naturally bold and hot-headed Avan took off and ran after Rene. Cosette and Zeri followed and tried to catch up. The rest of the class made sure the area was secure.
Up ahead, the lone Rebel was trying to escape, but his shoulders were bumping into trees, causing him to stumble every few steps. He looked back and saw that he was being chased by a lone orange haired girl.
“Get back here!” Rene screamed as she nimbly weaved past trees like they were opponents in her way on the soccer field.
Suddenly, a branch came swining out from behind a tree up ahead and Rene saw the Rebel get smacked so hard in the face by it that when his head snapped back, his helmet flew right off.
As the rebel lay on his back, seeing stars and the world spinning, he looked over and saw a black haired girl with a teal bowtie in her hair, snickering and holding a tree branch against her shoulder.
"Where the hell did she come from?" the rebel asked
Suddenly an orange haired girl climbed ontop of him, grabbed him by the front of his jacket and pulled him nose to nose with her. She then screamed, “Where’s Magari?! Where is she?!”
Avan, Cosette and Zeri arrived on the scene and saw Rene shaking the rebel as hard as she could.
“Please don‘t hurt me! I’m a deserter!!” the rebel soldier cried.
“You’re lying! Tell us what you did with Magari!”
Avan and Cosette rushed forward and pried Rene off of the rebel soldier, who now appeared to be quite young and obviously quite frightened.
Zeri stepped between the prisoner and Rene, “Calm down, Rene. Let us take it from here.”
“No! He must know what happened to Magari! He appeared at the exact spot where she was taken!”
Welkin and the others then arrived, and Welkin asked, “What happened?”
Zeri looked up at Melissa and smiled, “We caught the lone rebel, thanks to Melissa. I didn’t even see her leave our group, but she managed to get ahead of us somehow and take him out.”
“How in the world did you disappear like that so easily?!” Anisette asked.
“Tee hee, I wouldn't be a very good scout if I couldn't disappear and become unnoticable whenever I wanted, now would I?” Melissa snickered.
That's about as far as I've gotten with the Magari fanfic so far. It's still got a little ways to go.
Any good, any suggestions or anything else??
Spoiler for Review:
Very nice stuff. The bit between Welkin and Alicia was a nice touch, in particular. Imagine what would happen if the Rebels had to face a Valkyrur Alicia... oh boy...
Pretty interesting tweak you made having the cadets capture a deserter. I lol'd at how you had Melissa smack him with a tree branch.
As for the interrogation, I think it'd be neat to have the deserter knows who Welkin is by fame, which slightly reassures him when Welkin calmly questions him. It'd also show the class a lot of Welkin's logical personality. For the deserter's reasons for helping, it should be something like him being disgusted by what his comrades plan to do with Magari. I'll leave his ultimate fate up to you; if he at all dies, though, it has to be at the hands of the Rebels.
I hope you'll be able to finish it soon.
I've also got a very rough idea on a possible Anisette fanfic. This would be a sort of parody of Enter the Edy Detachment.
Spoiler for Anisette:
Much like what happened with Edy, Anisette ends up getting a few of the other Lanseal cadets (I'd at least include Reiner, Marion, Magari, and Chloe, but it's up to you) separated from the bulk of Class G during a battle. Again, it was due to Anisette being so gung-ho about chasing a group of Rebels.
While they're trying to regroup with Class G, the "Anisette Detachment" discovers a Rebel group that's transporting a unique tank variant. To their horror, they learn the tank is equipped to use gas shells; such a weapon is illegal by continental law, though the leader of the Rebel group doesn't care. The Rebels apparently are looking to test the tank and its gas rounds on a Darcsen village.
Naturally, Anisette has her team try to stop this from happening. One of the team (probably Marion) points out, however, that trying to fortify themselves inside the village would not work; the "bio tank" would just shell them from a distance and kill them with the gas rounds. As such, Anisette decides for the team to set up an ambush, with the objective being to knock out the bio tank. The ambush succeeds in destroying the bio tank with lancer fire, but the Rebel leader has his men single out the Anisette detachment and attacks them.
Unfortunately, the cadets quickly run out of ammunition in the fighting, and are forced to surrender. The Rebel leader, however, is so infuriated with the loss of his tank, that he shoots Anisette in the chest, and then prepares to execute the others. The rest of Class G arrives in the nick of time, defeating the remaining Rebels (and killing the Rebel leader).
To everyone's relief, Anisette survives being shot, though she's hospitalized for three weeks as a result. While in the hospital, though, she's visited by Edy (much to Avan's horror). Edy congratulates Anisette on her actions, something that Anisette both appreciates and takes a bit as Edy "looking down on [her]", renewing her vow to out-do her sister.

Feel free to add comedy as needed.
How about Edy singing a get well song much to the horror of the injured "Anisette Detachment".

Here's the last preview, Runty. Before the entire thing is finished
Spoiler for Final Magari fanfic preview:
Welkin then stepped forward, “Alright, let me talk to him,” said Welkin.
He then knelt down in front of the Rebel soldier, while behind him, Cosette and Avan were each holding onto Rene’s arms, trying to keep her away.
“What did you do with Magari?!” Rene screamed.
The Rebel trembled in fear and looked up at all the soldiers circled around him, then Welkin put his hand on his shoulder, “Don’t be afraid. We’re not going to hurt you, I promise.” Welkin said reassuringly, “My name is Welkin Gunther and we’re out here trying to find a squad mate. Her names Magari and she’s a Darcsen.”
The Rebel didn’t respond right away, but he was looking at Welkin with surprise in his eyes, “No way… Welkin Gunther? Leader of Squad Seven during the last war?”
Welkin smiled, “Yes, the same.”
The Rebel smiled, then Rene interrupted, “Where’s Magari, Scumbag!! Tell us or I swear I’ll kick the living sh--”
Welkin looked back at Rene and held his hand up, “That’s enough, Rene!” Welkin ordered, “We’re not going to do anything of the sort.”
Cosette patted Rene on the shoulder, “You’ve got to calm down, Rene. Let Welkin handle this.”
Avan nodded, “He knows what he’s doing. Trust his judgement.”
Welkin then went back to speaking with the Rebel, “You said earlier that you were a deserter. What did you mean by that?”
The rebel shook his head and pulled out a tiny blue spiral trinket from around his neck and showed it to Welkin,
“I’m a Yggdist and I signed up to fight after a very moving speech given to us by General Audrey Gassenarl after she learned of Princess Cordelia’s deception. She told us that like the princess, all Darcsen’s were deceptive, and that their non-hostile outer appearance was all a lie, an act.
She told us that the Princesses confession, combined with the recent flow of Darcsen immigrants from the Empire… was the beginning of another Darcsen ruled Gallia. Audrey said that the Darcsens were coming here to take over Gallia and follow their Darcsen princess in ruling over the Non-Darcsen people once again.
Audrey predicted that the Darcsen’s always had this intention in mind… that from the very beginning, they were just waiting… for the right moment to strike. It wasn’t hard to believe that that moment was now. Gallia's military was nearly destroyed in the last war, so there wouldn’t be much to stand in the Darcsens way from taking over. I didn’t believe it at first, but when the Darcsens started coming into Gallia… with wave after wave of fresh immigrants… it seemed like it truly was an invasion force.
So like many in my home town and of our faith, I took up arms to defend Gallia from becoming a Darcsen ruled country.”
Welkin nodded, “I see, go on.”
“B-but… what I have seen on the field of battle isn’t war… it’s genocide,” the Rebel said, “Each and every town and village we march into, there is never any resistance. Even when our unit marched through the streets, killing any Darcsens we come across… they never fight back.
If this really were an invasion force trying to take over Gallia, then they would be armed and shooting back. But they aren’t and they never do. They stay true to their Darcsen beliefs of non-violence, even in the face of certain death. They’re not evil and they’re definitely not trying to take over Gallia… We were lied to!”
“And you just couldn’t take it anymore?” Welkin asked.
The Rebel shook his head as tears were building up in his eyes, “No… I couldn’t. I wanted out… but if I ever tried to desert and was captured… I’d be strung up and my body would be displayed as a warning to any others who wanted out too. But… I decided to try…
I had to wait… wait until I could find a moment when I could make my escape. That moment came when my unit left me behind to guard the encampment while they scouted ahead. When I was certain they were far enough away, I ran… I ran faster than I ever have run in my entire life. Then… I came upon you and your unit…”
Welkin tilted his head, “Why didn’t you just surrender to us?”
The Rebels eyes shifted over to Rene, and she was glaring, her teeth bared as she breathed in and out angrily.
“I was about to… but then she came charging directly at me. Fearing for my life, I turned and ran… then I was caught. I guess I’m dead either way… whether by you or my own unit if they ever catch me.”
Welkin nodded, “I believe you… I believe your story,” said Welkin, he then stood up and offered his hand out to the Rebel. He took it and was helped to his feet. Welkin then held out his hand, “The rifle.”
The Rebel handed his rifle to Welkin, Welkin then smiled and moved his head to the side, “Go on, you’re free to go.”
“What?!” The Rebel asked in disbelief.
“You can’t be serious?!” Rene shouted
“You’re letting him go?” Cosette asked
“Welkin, are you sure that’s a good idea?” Avan asked
Welkin didn‘t answer as he was still talking to the Rebel, “Head back the way we came and you’ll come across a dirt road. You walk down it towards Lanseal Academy and turn yourself into the first Army or Lanseal force that you come across, got it?”
“Y-you mean it… I can just go?!” The Rebel asked.
Welkin nodded and smiled, “Keep safe as you go.”
The Rebel started off as the Class G students moved to clear a path, but he suddenly stopped and rushed back to Welkin, “I… I’m not sure if my unit will still be at the same encampment… they may have moved after I ran away and continued scouting the area. But here, take this.” The Rebel said as he dug out a map in a clear pouch and handed it to Welkin, “It’s the last place we were, maybe… if this Darcsen girl-”
“Her name’s Magari!” Rene interrupted.
The Rebel nodded nervously, “Y-yeah. I-If Magari were captured by my unit, then that’s where she would be.”
Welkin patted the Rebel on the shoulder, “Thanks, good luck on your way out of the forest.”
The Rebel nodded, turned and ran away as fast as he could. Class G’s soldiers all watched him leave, then turned to Welkin and looked at him, some with worry in their eyes.
“S-sir… W-what if he was lying?” Nichol asked.
Franca nodded, “He very well could have been. I’ve never met a good Rebel all throughout this civil war. All were too happy to kill any Darcsen they came across.”
Noel was shaking slightly, “What if he goes back to his unit and leads his men back to us?”
Welkin dusted off his pants, stood up and turned to everyone and said, “He won’t. He just wants out of this war.”
Alexis shook her head, “I do not think it was wise to let him go on his own. Perhaps we should have kept him with us, or left him back at the APC, under guard.”
Again, Welkin shook his head, “Don’t worry. I promise, he won’t report us.”
“How can you be so sure?” Mischlitt asked
Welkin closed his eyes and nodded to himself, “Because I’ve had an encounter like this before, during the last war. One that still haunts me to this day…
Alicia and I were out scouting out a path through the mountain forests and had to take shelter in a cabin during a sudden snowstorm. As we spent the night there, an Imperial soldier suddenly entered the cabin and we were faced with an armed standoff.
After much deliberation and negotiations, we agreed to lower our weapons and share the shelter. But that was when we realized just how severely injured and scared the Imperial soldier really was.
As we attempted to treat him, he told us about how the Imperial army wasn’t at all what he expected it to be and how he was forced into battle time and time again. And… that while attempting to run away, he was shot in the back by his own Imperial comrades.
We both sympathized with him and wanted to help him get away, but… we weren’t able to save him. He died of his wounds, but not before he told us how he was glad to have met us and told us his name, to remember him by… and I’ve never forgotten it…”
Now, nearly all of the Class G soldiers eyes were looking down at the ground sadly.
Avan nodded his head and asked, “What was his name?”
Welkin closed his eyes and sighed, “Mikhail… Mikhail Webber. That was his name.”
Welkin then looked back and said, “I saw that same fear in that Rebel boys eyes. Heard the same desperation in his voice… That is why I believe he was telling the truth.
And… I got a chance to do what I couldn’t do with Mikhail. I was able to help him get away alive. So that he wouldn’t have to fight a war that he didn’t want to anymore.”
Alexis nodded, “A very noble and admirable move, sir. I never would have thought to do the same thing…”
Avan grinned, “It’s why he was the leader of Squad Seven. The greatest militia squad in the whole entire war.”
Rene broke free of Avan and Cosettes grip and turned her back to everyone, “You may have just endangered Magari’s life even more by letting him go!”
“Rene, Don’t--” Avan started, but that was when Welkin brushed past him.
“It’s alright. You’ve got to trust me, Rene. I know what I’m doing.” Welkin said as he put his hand on her shoulder.
Rene smacked his hand away and turned to face him and shouted, “Shut up! I can’t believe how relaxed you are when Magari is somewhere out there right now… who knows what those damn Rebels could be doing to her!”
“I know that, Rene. I’m just as worried about her as you are.”
“No! You’re not!” Rene shot back, “What makes you think you have any idea how I feel?! It’s so damn easy for you to say that, because you aren’t as close to Magari as I am. She’s been my friend since childhood!!”
Avan walked towards the two, “Hey! Rene! That’s enough--” Avan started.
But Zeri held his arm out, stopping him and Mischlitt stood in front of Avan, hand on his chest, keeping him back as well. She then said, “Wait. Don’t interfere.”
Rene continued with, “So don’t tell me to calm down! Because you have no idea how I feel right now, because someone I love is in great danger! You have Alicia, the love of your life and she’s safe and sound at the academy right now, right?!
Maybe if she were out here and in place of Magari, maybe then I’d listen to you, because then the most important person in your life would be in danger of dying!”
Avan started to move forward again, gritting his teeth. But Mischlitt held her hand to his chest, looking him straight in the eyes and said, “Wait. Just wait.”
Welkin nodded, “I admit, if Alicia were in this position then I probably wouldn’t feel so calm and collected.
But… I’ve already felt something much worse--” said Welkin.
He then reached down to his front breast pocket and dug something else, then held it up to Rene and she instantly gasped upon seeing Welkin dressed in Civilian clothing with his arm around a small Darcsen girl wearing a green dress and a shawl. She also bore a striking resemblance to Magari.
“Because the most important person in my life has already been taken from me…”
Only some of the students like Cosette and Avan gasped upon hearing this. Zeri, Mischlitt and anyone else who knew more about EW2 and its events already knew Welkin had a younger Darcsen sister… who died in the last war. Avan now understood why Mischlitt was holding him back, it was something that Welkin needed to say directly to Rene.
Rene was still holding onto the picture as Welkin sighed and said, “Her name was Isara. Isara Gunther. She was my sister, and the only family member that I had left.
She was fatally wounded after we had taken the Marberry shores fortress back from the Imperials. I held her in my arms as she died… there was nothing I could do to help her, except be there for her in her final moments.”
Cosette was near the point of crying, so she took hold of Avans arm and held him. Zeri and Mischlitt looked at each other and shook their heads. Noel took her hat off and held it to her chest. Even Alexis and Anisette had a look of sadness on their face.
“So, Rene… You’re not the only one who knows what it’s like to lose somebody…”
That was when Welkin heard someone fall to the ground. A quick look over his shoulder showed Rene to be sitting on the forest floor while holding a hand cupped over her mouth. She already had tears flowing down her cheeks and she was released stifled sobs.
“Rene??” Welkin asked as he rushed up to her and knelt down next to her.
She moved her hand aside and took Welkin’s hand, “I’m sorry!” she sobbed, “I didn’t know… I didn’t mean to--”
Welkin then hugged her head against his chest and rested his cheek on top of her head, “It’s alright…” he said comfortingly while rocking her softly back and forth, letting her have a good cry. “You don’t have to apologize for anything, Rene. I know how sad, angry and worried you must be feeling for Magari right now…”
Welkin blinked away some tears, “But we’re going to get her back! I promise you; we’ll get Magari back and bring her home.”
How was that? Good enough 'Interrogation'? and, any suggestions or such?
I'll try to get the rest done, it never seems like much in my head. But when I start writing I just keep adding stuff and before I know it, a couple thousand words have been written. It's already over TEN thousand words and still has some ways to go. Wouldn't be surprised if it went over Fifteen thousand or more. It's the longest one shot so far.
But, because it's about Magari <3 <3 <3 <3 She's definately worth it
Here's the last preview, Runty. Before the entire thing is finished

But, because it's about Magari <3 <3 <3 <3 She's definately worth it
Here's one: there never was a Mikhail. Welkin and Alicia meet an injured soldier named Fritz, a loyal Imperial soldier who only wanted to survive the war and see his mother again.
PS: Yes, i know Mikhail was from the anime but i refuse to accept it as canon since it ruined one of the best scenes in the game which shows that both Gallians and Imperials were the same: fighting for their homelands and family.
Actually, that scene with Fritz merely established that the Imperials were also human. If you remembered, there was a soldier who mentioned that the rest of the squad teased Fritz for being so attached to his mother.
As far as I can see, most of the Imperials saw the Gallian campaign as a fight for glory and honour. Back in Bruhl, excluding Isara, the soldiers insulted Martha as a "fat pig". So, the situation is not the same as the Gallians. Many saw the campaign as a chance to rise through the ranks. It's a war for profit that Max is selling (and to conceal his true intentions that it was a war to secure the pieces he need for a rebellion ala Lelouch). It was going to be easy, and the fellows can return home full of rewards and spoils of war.

Spoiler for Opinion:
Very nice. I like how you fleshed out the rebel deserter.
And Rene's rant at Welkin, while somewhat uncharacteristic of her, was very good, and a very human reaction from her. She thought Welkin couldn't have understood her position, but was shown that she was dead wrong when Welkin showed the picture of Isara.
IMO, that scene should have been in the game! Awesomely done.
Yes, i know Mikhail was from the anime but i refuse to accept it as canon since it ruined one of the best scenes in the game which shows that both Gallians and Imperials were the same: fighting for their homelands and family.
IMO about 90% of the anime was a let down, but that cabin scene was one of the rare moments where it was better than the game. They did show that he also cared about his mother, when she gave him the watch and he looked down at it with such pride. He even clutched it as he was dying, as if he were clutching the hand of his mother for comfort.
It also worked better with the scene I had in my fanfiction, where Welkin meets yet another deserter, but this time gets to do things differently and gain some peace from past war experiences.
the Fritz scene wouldn't have worked as well, I weighed both options carefully and chose the anime scene over the game.
And it shows the students of Class G exactly how a war hero would handle a situation such as this instead of newer cadets. They get to see the true hero that he was always rumored to be.
I'm glad you enjoyed my last 3 one hitters *The Ramona+Nils one, the Alexis one and now the Magari one* Truth be told, I was hoping to get a review from you for the silly silly Marina+Ted one I wrote. Perhaps it was too silly to comment on I guess.
Anyways, the final part is proving quite difficult to come up with, so many things could happen! I should have more time to think and write within the next few days, just been getting slammed by work, work, work.
Sometimes I just wanna take a few days off to write my other stories, but then I would be outta money pretty quick :P
Hopefully the last part will be as good as the beginning and middle have, time will tell.
Well, that's nice to know, Snowman. Hopefully by the end of the weekend, you'll be done?
As long as I'm here, though, I might as well post up another one-shot idea. I'd not read this one unless you've finished the game, just for safety.
Spoiler for Cosette/Avan:
Shortly after the Doerfein Mines incident, Avan and Cosette are at Lanseal trying to help with everyday tasks. In said work, however, Avan accidentally slips and falls on Cosette... and accidentally kisses her in the process!
Naturally, Cosette is left completely flustered, since Avan had recently helped her recover from her colorblindness. Though the two try and tell each other (and themselves) that it was all an accident, the two suddenly realize their feelings for each other.
Later that night, however, Zeri confronts Avan on this, having seen Avan and Cosette "sharing a tender moment". He's concerned that Avan might put Cosette as a higher priority than Gallia, a notion Avan is unable to respond to, being confused.
A few days later, Class G is dispatched to aid a Darcsen refugee village that has been discovered by the Rebels, who assault it in force. While the class is evacuating the Darcsens, however, Cosette is captured by a Rebel colonel, one who had before been defeated by Class G, but survived the encounter. The colonel holds Cosette hostage, saying he will kill her unless Avan comes forward. Though Zeri and Cosette openly object, Avan complies and surrenders. But the colonel goes back on his word when he learns that some other members of Class G are trying to flank him, and he throws Cosette off a rooftop. Avan, despite having to weave through bullets, just manages to catch Cosette. Class G manages to beat back the Rebels when the Regular Army shows up to reinforce them.
Back at Lanseal, Avan and Cosette are confronted by Zeri, who affirms his original assumption: Avan cares too much for Cosette. Avan understands this, and tries to break off his relationship with her, but Cosette refuses to throw away her feelings for him. To show how much Avan means to her, she kisses him again, much to Zeri's chagrin.
I'll let you decide where to go from here.
Honestly, I feel this kind of story element should've happened in the game. Such a missed opportunity...

Spoiler for How this?:
Zeri at first is against the relationship as he believes it won't work and it'll be a distraction in their missions. When Avan angrily confronts him about it on why does he have against two people who are in love and want to protect each other, Zeri finally breaks down and tells the truth. While he hasn't been showing it, Zeri is still in mourning over Julianna's death. He admits he was falling in love with her and was in grief when she died during the surprise attack at Lanseal. Everyday since her death, Zeri has been blaming himself for not protecting her but he soon realizes his grief was distracting him from what really matters the most right now: protecting the people of Gallia. Since then he promises himself to never to fall in love again since the loss of the one you love was just too painful. Zeri was trying to end Cosette and Avan's relationship since he didn't want them to experience losing their love ones just like what he had to go through when he lost Julianna.
^both those ideas sound good, perhaps once I'm done with the Magari one, I'll think about taking on that one.
I'm amazed at how many awesome ideas are able to come from VC2, as Chloe would say "My Brain... it's... it's exploding!" Lol, I feel the same when I think of all the possibilities for one-hits that could come from the VC2 universe.
I wonder what possibilities VC3 holds for stories?
I actually had a fic idea: What if Juliana had been a true Valkyria? Boy, you can put major angst into the story without looking back because of the two races' great hatred for one another. Doesn't help that she stumbles upon what Faldio had two years previously.
Spoiler for some plot lines:
So the story begins during the 1935 war. While fighting alongside Leon, Juliana sustained some wounds. By the time the mission was over, Leon had realised that her injuries were gone. Her answer? "I had always healed well." (BTW, this mission can be accessed in VC3 once you complete the VC3 main story. Of course, it's just an ordinary mission over there.)
After this prologue, fast forward to '37, where Juliana first came before Dr. Forester. While expecting a subject for the Valhala project, Forester is surprised when her tests indicate that Juliana could become more. After being convinced by the results, she convinced Juliana to "lie down" for some procedures, drugs her out cold, and whips out an old dagger...
After discovering her heritage, Juliana was both elated and worried. Happy because she knew what the Valkyria can do, being a good history student (not to mention that Forester had, once again, a lance and shield on standby). Worried because of how her parents and everyone else would take the news. Unlike Aliasse, Juliana was very much able to resist Forester's nonsense about the Valkyria being weapons and nothing else. She began reading up on the history of the Valkyria. As her relationship with Zeri progressed, she got closer and closer to the truth. As the horrible implications dawned on her, how would she choose: to let her heritage take away her love, or to bare all to him and let him decide?
Also, alon with Class G, Juliana takes part in helping Aliasse break out of her shell. Along the way, she also meets Welkins and Alicia...
