I still do not see her as decent human being. Her 'protecting' Tama is like a guy making sure his car isn't getting scratched.

It's obviously terrible that it's a death game, but Snow White having the most candies isn't just about her ability, it's also about how she's a genuinely heroic and good person. So Ruler choosing to target Snow White for death reflects poorly on Ruler, in my view. Quote:
In any event, this is just a different alternate to targeting Snow White. Ruler didn't have to target anybody. She could have just went about gathering candies for her team in the non-stealing way, and sharing as necessary. Initially, at least, they don't have to beat out Snow White, as the initial setup was for 8 survivors. Quote:

Hmm.... so they really did do this final showdown between Ripple and Swim Swim. Ripple finds herself struggling against Swim Swim's abilities although she does manage to sneak in a surprise attack.
I'm not too surprised that Ripple went for the kill on Swim Swim. She managed to get revenge for her friend Top Speed so yeah. Snow White arrived late. Not sure how I feel about the final battle in general, felt rather predictable imo.

And now it's over...
I don't really know, but somehow the end felt a little anticlimactic. Snow White finding out all about the project, and I love Fav patronizing her, for not catching on at all. I think he was the most interesting thing this episode, though I thought his "death" rather sudden and not really satisfying. Snow and Ripple don't really feel as if they have any chemistry to me, I don't know, I kind of would have have been fine if Snow was still the last to survive. It would have been awesome for her to take up the spear/halberd and destroy Fav. Snow has grown a bit and is less naive about things, though I think it's kind of horrible to just disappear on your family like that. Ripple and Swim's fight was okay, but Swim's death was kind of blah. Maybe if Ripple had thrown the sword into her as the flash grenade went off? It just felt the series kind of went out in a bit of a whimper.

Yes, playing by the stated rules of the game means someones going to die anyway. But that death would be on Favs hand. As Triple R pointed out by collecting candies the magical girls are essentially engaging in self defense. However, once you make a choice to purposefully go after someone in particular, by doing something that wasn't a stated rule, knowing that if your plan succeeds, that person will die, you shift the level of blame from the person who setup the game to yourself. That's no longer just self defense.

Episode 12
The final showdown was pretty cool. Ripple was the expected winner but I started to think that maybe they'll take out each other, especially after Ripple got her arm lopped off by Swimmer. Ripple didn't know that she was stabbing a loli. Damn. Koyuki was pretty pissed at Fav for the right reasons. Fav did not expect this outcome but it worked out for him. Ripple and Swim weren't good enough candidates for his master's slot so he decided on Snow White. Angry Snow White was cool. And Fav didn't expect Ripple to survive that fight with Swimmer. This is probably the end of Fav I think. Snow White has dedicated herself completely to becoming a good magical girl. She's going out of her district to take care of bigger things and is thus being warned by the World of Magic. They sure care about stupid things like this rather than the more important one, namely the magical girl selection exam. There should be only one kind of exam and things shouldn't be left at the discretion of the supervisor because crap like this can happen. I like how Snow White is training herself to become stronger. She changed after seeing two people who protected her die. Quite the show this was. Liked all that brutality. The visuals suffered consistently when it came to fighting. I also felt that they didn't give the characters enough screen time before killing them off. That could have really bettered the impact their deaths had. The show kinda showed how different kinds of people would act when put in a life or death situation, with a magical girl twist. Unlike Madoka Magica, which had five initially pure hearted girls becoming magical girls and then thrown into despair, Mahoiku had a variety of girls (and guy) become magical girls and then threw them into such a situation. Mahoiku had the advantage of a wider variety of girls to work with, though it didn't exactly use this to its fullest. Mahoiku isn't really that thematic like Madoka so there's the big difference between what they want to achieve. With Fav calling all this a game from time to time and this starting off as a mobile game, this is kinda like a trapped in a game world anime, in a weird way. Anyway, Mahoiku could have done better with more episodes and better visuals I think, but given whatever it had, I think it did a pretty good job. I was at the edge of my seat each week and couldn't wait for the next episode. They sure gave me quite the thrill. |

With the story they had to work with, this was a solid ending. I especially liked Snow White and Ripple's conclusion. Ripple killing Swim swim was memorably bitter. But didn't Ripple get her arm chopped off? Did it grow back?
The 'World of Magic' people were at very least unbelievably careless if they designed Fav in a way that let him cause so many deaths. And they don't seem to have given him a clue about talking to humans; everything he said in this episode was nothing but begging for Snow White to kill him. Really wouldn't mind another series of this. |

Wow, I was really moved by this series and it's hard for me to put my thoughts in words right now.
Most of all, I loved the soundtrack. It was just perfect. I really hope they release it on CD. The voice acting was phenomenal. This was my favorite Nao Touyama role and maybe my favorite Inori Minase role as well. And both Yumi Uchiyama and Manami Numakura were amazing as well. There were so many great performances and I'm not sure if this is because the director did a good job or because the VAs were attached to their characters or both. And the direction by Hiroyuki Hashimoto was really solid. I was really interested to see how he would go from a legitimately cute show like GochiUsa to a dark show with a cute exterior like this one. And despite the huge tone shift he managed to do a good job with this one as well. I will watch almost anything this guy directs.

About Japan, they have the self defense force(JSDF) that isn't so well prepared because they depend on a treaty with Murrica in case they get attacked.
Also, no. Isn't the ending there is consequences of these two characters namely Fal and Fav. In a way, it's just the beginning. Koyuki got officially invited to the Land of Magic for passing. Snow White still didn't give up her normal life, not sure about Ripple but given her troublesome life with her mother and father(s) she might as well fake her death. |

Ah, so that's it. No backstory on Swim-Swim? So we are supposed that she was just a child hard-conditioned by Ruler to do all those things?
And that ending. Felt underwhelming. If anyone is free to, please spoil me on the things cut out/not included. I recalled a post earlier saying it made them more interested in the series as a whole. |
