Theres got to be a limit to how far Kyosuke is willing to sacrifice himself. I just hope all hes efforts in the end don't go unchecked because I think hes doing more than he should just for his ungrateful little sister. Most people wouldn't go so far or they probably think of another solution.

Yay! Manami episode next.

The yandere Ayase was quite a surprise... It was a total higurashi moment for me as well. I was expecting her to pull out an axe or something later in the episode.

As others mentioned, Ayase's reaction felt a bit overboard at first, and rightfully so since we were given virtually no information on Ayase before this event. I wish the anime took some time to depict Ayase's one-dimentional view about the otaku to build up some tension before her clash with Kirino...

Kirino, if only she knew how much it hurts to be hit there... Though I expect that wouldn't have stopped her, anyhow. I hope she becomes (or at least show) more grateful towards her brother soon.

Anyhow, yet again, we have the Onii-chan to the rescue. The part that made this episode most enjoyable for me was Kyousuke's ridiculous lines with his dad and Ayase, the final parts. I thought the dad was going go 'gendou mode' and just ignore Kyousuke or something. Was it just me or was the dad acting kind of a tsundere That last 'keikaku tori da' was priceless.

I think that's something she will have to come to terms with, the whole lying thing that is. She'll come to recognize the difference between an intentional hurtful lie and Kyousuke's 'white lie'. That way we get some growth on her end too, and it'll make the bond between the two even stronger...Oh Yes!

Nice to see another awesome episode. Looks like Kirino revealed some of her true feelings when she was arguing with Kyousuke and said that he left her alone all this time. Poor Kyouske, having to go through all that for Kirino. At times it seems more like his nature rather than sibling love, but of course it is becoming the latter little by little.

Ah, Kyosuke, those ridiculous lies that you declare out loud so easily are just so made of win.

He deserves some kind of peace prize for going through all that mud just to help Kirino all the time.

Kudos to Kyousuke again.
And Ayase shouldn't be called "best" friend if she can't accept a part of Kirino.

Kyo sure takes alot of **** for Kirino =0\. That was way too much to kick him in the balls. For the kind of char Kyo seems to be, I kinda find it disappointing that he shrugs off all of that physical and verbal abuse like it was nothing. At least Kyo's personality[otherwise] isn't that of a coward, and that he ALWAYS speaks up when necessary. It's not necessary to do this now, but I hope the day will come where Kirino will go over the line and Kyo will(temp) stop dealing with her. Sometimes you have to lose something to truly understand how much you need it.

This may be a bit provocative, but there are some buzzwords flying around with regards to Ayase which I consider questionable or wrong. Let's see if we can get a proper discussion going.

1) Ayase is a Yandere!

This is popular and AFAIK even on a wiki, but IMHO fairly off the mark. Being a Yandere requires two things: A fanatical devotion to someone who you're convinced you're destined to be with (that's already questionable - fanatical devotion yes, but destined to be with? not sure), and a violent-dangerous reaction towards the object of desire when it becomes evident that this devotion isn't going to be reciprocated. Which is a flat-out no. All that Ayase did was severing her ties and walking away in pain. No violence, no threats.

In the end, she was threatening Kyousuke with death, should he make moves on Kirino. That, however, was not directed against the object of devotion, but against people who might threaten it. Call her obsessed and overprotective, fine. But I don't think Yandere fits.

2) Ayase is batshit crazy!

No sir, she is not. Everything she did is perfectly reasonable and making sense, as long as you keep in mind that a) she's infatuated with her idolized view of Kirino and b) conditioned to reject otakudom. If you start from there, she is quite reasonable. Heck, she's even talking to the pervert oniichan, and she's accepting evidence as genuine which is contradicting her beliefs. That's more rational than 90% of all people I have political discussions with

3) Ayase is a controlling stalker!

Nope. Neither did she stalk, nor is she controlling. If she were the latter, she'd try hard to influence Kirino to drop her hobby. To monitor when Kirino was doing what, trying to "forbid" her from doing unacceptable stuff. Instead, she cut ties and walked away.

In the end, I consider it sad and bitter irony that the only girl who immediately treated Kyousuke kindly and with respect, without suspicion but rather convinced about the general goodness of man, is now turned into a bitter enemy over Kyousuke's protective lie. This is the macabre part: By repeatedly shielding Kirino against the injustice of society, he turns into the sandbag target even for those people who are most compatible with him by disposition (like Ayase). I'm looking forward to how the novel plans to gradually remedy this and resolve this tragedy. Kyousuke deserves much better than he gets.

Seriously, when I saw those doujin getting rained on, I was like, "What the hell?! Those are collector's items! Ayase, you b****!"

But I'm really happy with this episode. It goes back to critiquing Japan-at-large's views on otaku, which is why I started loving this show. Also, Kyousuke, looking good. And I'm especially happy with how they showed what Kirino's been feeling. Love this episode.

The number of annoying middle school girls has increased, Kirino and now Ayase. I felt that Ayase seem to be a bit mentally unstable, going ballistic and crying over her best friend's hobby. Sheesh. I wish you well Kyousuke through the remaining years of putting up with your sister and her friend until you leave for college. Good luck.

Next episode is about Minami and I hope she brings some sunshine from all of this. I always favor the childhood friend character, plus I love hearing Satomi Satou use that type of voice (gentle/mature type ex: Aria and Otome).

Watching again this Episode, I still have issues with Ayase's characterization due to the more or less exaggerated scenes here and there.
In fact, Ayase was definitely shown as your "most normal" character at first, then suddenly switch to a very obsessive and aggressive stance when Kirino was acting a bit odd.
It isn't that irrealistic, although I would rather prefer some foreshadowing -outside- of the ED, a characterization that would be a bit in line with what was shown: for instance, I would accept Ayase yangire (not yandere) switch if she was a bit clingy in her normal mode... say in classes or when they were at Kousakas' house. In fact, it would have been a bit more credible if it was characters like Satomi.

Either way, it isn't like it is bad, since it adds some flavor, it is just the way how it was revealed that could have been a bit smoother.

That said, I can't help but not really appreciate her character. Although the whole "blind hatred" has some basis, the whole "I thought we were friends, but it seems it isn't the case" irked me quite a bit. I mean, you would expect Ayase to have a open mind after the groping incident in ep4, then you got someone who is very edgy, whereas well... anyone has a secret or two.
The whole "fake/real" Kirino was definitely something really difficult to accept as not stupid and superficial. That is sort of in line with the maturity of middle schoolers, although it doesn't make it any better, just a bit more "understandable".

Now, it is very likely she will have a better side to show after learning more about this hobby, but it will require a lot of works so that she earn points. Honestly, the drama tried way too hard here, and is even more unbalanced than what happened with daddy.

Having a clearer picture of Ayase's character now, I guess you really have to view that act (believing in Kyousuke, making friends with him) as what it was, without any motives underneath - as long as it's not suddenly revealed that she finds Kirino attractive...

Although.... it's a little weird that she would want to befriend her best friend's brother. I wouldn't do something like that. Who knows, maybe she's always wanted an older brother.

Omg missclick vote 1/10 -.- instead of 8/10 ...

Anyway , good episode even though the otaku incident was kinda easy to resolve .

Imo i won't say that they were really best friend before until after they make up cuz a Best Friend for me is someone really precious that you share everything (hobby , music , cinema etc.... )and tell the truth without worries , both accept their own taste. Of course if it's something weird or dangerous , you ask questions. Well i talk to myself and my best friend^^
Like he doesn't watch anime like i does but accept it and i don't watch TV series that he like but it's nothing serious.

Ow , i feared that they're going to incest route (but still ...) and if you noticed , seems like Kirino needed a big brother in the past and Kyousuke didn't pay attention for her.

So next -> Manami's episode !! Childhood friend need more love seriously ^^

And of course , Ayase did a creepy face when she said : "Lies lies lies lies..."

If your characterization of a yandere were correct, Kaede from Shuffle wouldn't be Yandere because she attacked Aya and not Rin-kun. I am not saying she is absolutely a yandere, but I don't think your quite right about the yandere thing. From MAL yandere club:

Yandere (ヤンデレ) is a Japanese term for a personality that is initially extremely loving and gentle, then at one point becomes deranged or psychotic, often brutally so. Yandere is a combination of the two words yanderu (病んでる), meaning to be sick, and deredere (デレデレ), which is defined as exhausted or lovestruck.

Term of Yangire:
In order to keep the original definition intact, another term has arisen to describe girls who exhibit yandere traits but do not fit the true definition of what a yanderekko entails. This term, known as yangire (ヤンギレ), refers to characters who snap suddenly out of jealousy, irritation or something similar. Yangire is a combination of the two words yanderu (病んでる), meaning to be sick, and kire or gire (切れ), meaning to cut, slice, or "to snap". This behavior is different from that of a yandere character in regard to the motivation that sparked the change in the character. The yanderekko is motivated through her love for the male protagonist, while a yangire character is motivated through other characters and will not be connected with emotions of love or attraction.

I disappointed the character of Ayase... Kyousuke was too kind for his little sister...
I have'nt read the novel & manga. Now I cannnot guess the future episodes, wathing ep5.
Ayase was very selfish girl. kirino was selfish too. Kyousuke easily sucrificed himself for his sis.
I was irritated about All of those!!
