Thursday is the busiest day of the week for anime fans. There are lots of shows airing today, but this is the one I was most anticipating. The crown jewel. The cherry on the sundae. The beautifully drawn in-character rule 34 artwork for your favorite series. (When this series gets one of those...I'm still on topic, right?)

Spoiler for Softenni 01 - Raising a Racquet:

Really, why are there so many anime on Thursday all the time... Well, it won't be hard cutting some off though.

Spoiler for ep1:

Based on the manga covers and other poster art, this series so totally seems to be about tennis ... and not some other things... *cough*

Yeah. I feel a sudden urge to learn more about, uhm, tennis. I'll be giving this a chance.

For the sake of sport.

Episode 1:

Spoiler for Episode 1:

Overall, a decent first episode for an ecchi anime. Better than XEBEC's previous anime RioRainbow Gate. It's basically Bamboo Blade meets Seitokai Yakuindomo at best.

Totally love Bamboo Blade esque sports comedy + ecchi.

I hope this show does well, Xebec or no Xebec.

Learning to play tennis was never this much fun. The may pantyshots were merely the icing on the cake.

That was a bit funny with some random jokes but nothing special.

Your logic is completely backwards on this one. The source material was servicey from its inception, adapting it is presenting what was in there on screen.

I do know that it's a manga originally. But it's also a Xebec anime from it's inception too.

i read the first chapter and i can tell that it's a Xebec material from the get go.

But any other studio could've gotten it, so to lay blame on them entirely sounds more like the manifestation of a grudge than figuring out where the problems (I think they're problems for you...) actually are.

You do understand that this is pretty much a completely honest approach to Women's tennis right? Why else would we watch it?

Have you actually watched Women's tennis after watching a Men's tennis game?... I've spent many a days/nights waiting for an excruciating women's match (thank god it's only 2 sets for a match during the Slams) to end so I could watch some actual tennis.

I thought it was pretty good actually. Girls having perverted fantasies about their teacher is in my opinion more funny than a moe-airhead making a fool out of herself (plus girls actually do that in real life too).

Well, i think it's one of the better Xebec ecchi animes out there.

Infact, this was way better than Rio! and MM in terms of art quality.

But again, "But it suffers from the fact that it's XEBEc, and therefore it's ecchi." is a valid point, since they are known for adapting and making ecchi source materials for the past 5 years.

And since this is Xebec, you'll know what to expect. I'm just giving the expectations here.

I thought the fanservice was pretty tame to be honest. Then again I just finished watching Kämpfer yesterday. It's not like the fanservice is carrying the show. There's actually an effort to make jokes, good ones at that. Best of all it focuses on tennis and not classroom humor which is a dime a dozen.

I thought episode 1 was pretty good. The focus on tennis instead of the classroom sets itself apart in the "cute girls doing cute things" subgenre. I like the cast, especially Chitose and Kurusu.

The only thing that irked me was the inconsistant censorship. Some panty shots were covered while others weren't. It was kind of annoying IMO.

Thought it was a pretty funny first episode. Got some tennis and introductions to some entertaining characters. Chitose really is something else. Terrible at the sport, but able to go to extremes when it comes to food.

Should be pretty fun to watch this group.
