Oh. My. God.

I'm not sure what the hell happened but, instantly every manga-selling store in Berkeley became flooded with fans. there wasn't any mangaka or anything in town, just TONS of people reading manga. Some of my friends from neighboring cities are getting the same reactions. Does someone know something I don't?
Edit: forgot to say what city i'm in XD.

Are you sure you haven't been hiding in your apartment for the last year or so? Cuz people read manga in stores all the time now. Its pretty annoying when you're trying to look at the selection.

Bold 1:
Bold 2: Of course, around 4-5 are at the shelves daily.
Last: Yeah, although I don't usually since the stock doesn't change a whole lot, we get mostly just crap(Love Hina, X something, Trigun, and other misc.)

Now, with the commongoers to see manga eliminated from the equation, there were at least 70 extra people in the manga section of the store I was in. Smaller ones I saw later had people waiting to get in. Totally weird.

i saw my first fight over a manga the other day it was over the last copy of Trigun #2

and yes manga is getting more popular these days, a school librarian/barnes and noble clerk asked me if i could recomend any titles for kids (naturally, i recomended Card Captor Sakura and Tokyo Mew Mew and the like, and told her about the rating system)
i think it's great, the plotlines in manga tend to be a lot better (or less gritty) than american comics, and they're longer, and have content for all ages
hell, manga's become sooo popular my school's anime club changed its name to the Animanga Club
only complaint i have is it's harder to find Shonen Jumps now!

Yes I am excited to see the manga sections in bookstores becoming larger and larger (along with anime sections in video stores). Manga is going main$tream

I hope this popularity brings more series over to the US!

Good for you!! We don't even have manga publishing here in Hungary. No TV Stations airing any anime (-Pokémon and Digimon Tamers). No DVD-s being realesed (-Chihiro , and Bebop movie.... There are a lot of anime fans here, but they just don't know, that they're not alone..... I wanna live in a Country that excepts manga and anime, and publish them and I wanna go to the bookstore too, and fight for a volume of Full Moon wo Sagashite whit another girl/guy.....
I think I'm gonna take a loong vacation in Germany this year
