I don't think anyone was asking for heavy plot. People just don't like how the spiritual successor to Amagami is a harem with a pretty shallow concept (use camera as an excuse to let MC take perverted pictures of girls). At the moment, all Photo Kano has going for it is half-decent stills of the girls when MC is taking pics. The series has been pretty subpar otherwise.

Maybe because I saw many people asking "where's the plot? where's the plot?" the past few days, I thought they were expecting something

As for the using camera to take perverted pictures of the girls, hmm... It's kinda hard to argue at this point, but at least so far he's a decent guy who have better moral than the rest of the Photography Club members. He was pissed at the limitation caused by his fellow club members to take picture of Gymnastic Club, shielding Haruka from Azuma and Nakagawa, even thinking the Miss Photogenic thing will bothering the girls. And even when he did took Aki's picture, it looks more like he took it for prank/because that moment is interesting, so out-of-character for Aki, head of stuco who very strict of school rules, to break said rules; and he could took panty shoot if he wanted when Aki was falling and/or on his top, but he decided to helped her instead.

But yeah, when he decided to keep the pictures (even made psychopath expression :heh) it's hard to defend his action. He just awaken his S side XDD

The urge to jump in the shower and scrub off at least one layer of skin every single time the gonk club shows up for "comedy" is kinda spoiling any appeal the heroines might have. They're not even funny so far, they're just pricks.

Green hairclips girl is still my favorite.

Put simply, he's a dense male lead who can't put 2 and 2 together when a girl screams "I WANT YOU TO LOOK AT ME" at his face.

Episode 2

Given how this show has less blatant fanservice than the more obvious candidates, it's amazing how much it indulges in sexualization. The female characters' sole reason for existing is to be put into compromising situations and ogled by Kazuya; they're effectively irrelevant for anything else. This is a terrible show, but I'm curious to see how deep this rabbit hole goes.

The main character is even worse than they are. And the people making the show are worse than the main character.

Just watched the first two episodes.

I'm disappointed. I thought this anime would radiate a nicer feeling with an interesting protagonist and a smooth story. It doesn't need to be the best anime of the season, but I really get tired of 'services'.

I hope, that our little "hentai photographer in the making" will get award of, what he is doing and that it is really a waste of time. ... At least, from my point of view.

Or maybe he should have chosen the other route? LOL (the less-service route, more nature, less peeker)

I believe there's actually 2 different manga series out for this, one went with Pervert Photo Club, the other went with the Girls Nature Club.

The whole point of the show is creeper shots, so why would they pick the other route?

Anyone else bothered by the pouting expressions by the girls? The way they do it makes it feel really unnatural. EG. the student council president/MC's sister. It felt as though the animators didn't know what expressions to draw and just went with pout-face instead.

cause Pout-Faces are cute (well, most of the times) - when girls uses it, it makes them look really shy and face blushing.

Which than makes the males go "YEAAAAA" *DING* over it....

Ep 2 made me kinda disappointed. I thought the MC was going to blackmail the bespectacled kaichou using her trespassing photos, but in the end he simply brushed it off for his own collections.

Guess it's some kind of heresy for harem MC to actually go ahead and do funny thing to the girls, eh?

My assumption was that they exist exclusively to make the MC look less icky by comparison, and frankly, I don't think it works that way. A creeper is a creeper. It feels like they're just there so that he has someone to say "Gee willikers fellas, I don't know, I think that's going a little too far" to.

See, I'd almost rather he did something like that, because if you're going to have a character who uses his new camera in various ways to exploit girls for his own gratification, then just go ahead and have him be that kind of guy. This halfway thing where we're supposed to believe he's just too dopey to really understand the consequences of what he's doing is almost more gross from where I'm sitting.

I guess I shouldn't make too many assumptions, since all I know of Photo Kano is these two episodes, but I wanted to express how... yucky it initially comes off to me, coming in at this stage and knowing nothing else about it.

At this point I can only say he has his reason, regardless good or bad his reason is to us

On the game, on the prologue part of Haruka it was told to us but the anime hasn't mentioned it yet. It also originally mentioned when Tomoe told him her reason sit on Haruka's chair. Remember that he said he can relate to Tomoe? The anime stop at that point without telling why he could, probably save it for future episode.

Photo Kano has more than 2 mangas actually. So far it has:
- PK Sweet Snap = First arc is focused on Haruka and he join the Photo Club; then after Haruka arc finish they have one-shot extra chapter focusing on Narita Ruu (the girl that always with Katsumi, the leader of Photo Club); and now currently it's on Yunoki Rina arc but Kazuya joins Photography Club.
- PK Your Eyes Only = Kazuya joins Photography Club, focused the most on Aki and Mai but the first few chapters also has Haruka and Nonoka story.
- PK Your Eyes Only SP = Short stories of the above. First two chapters are Rina-centric, chapter 3 is about Kanon, and chapter 4 is about Haruka.
- PK Love Album = Kazuya joins Photo Club. First arc containing 7 chapters focused on Hikari Sanehara route, after that it resets and currently on Misaki Nonoka route.
- PK Happy Album = Kazuya joins Photography Club. Same like above, first arc is Hikari route and now it's currently on Nonoka route.
- PK Memorial Pictures = I don't know which club Kazuya join on this one, but it's focused on Momoka route with some bit about Kanon.

Other than that, it has 3 anthology manga, 1 4koma manga, and a light novel adaptation

See the episode 3 preview again. There are two scenes of embarrassed Aki's posing while wearing swimsuit

I think that the main reason why the club fails to make Kazuya seem better is that they can only go through the motions, while he actually acts through his impulses. It's a different level of power, and a different level of viewer appeal. The way that the female characters only act opposite Kazuya is also pretty awful.

I just watch the first episode of Hentai Ouji, and it does exactly what you describe, and it feels a lot cleaner in comparison. Aku no Hana is another show that contrasts well - the main character there is a creeper as well, but the show fully acknowledges that, and he's wracked with guilt as a result. Kazuya comes off as a self-congratulatory character in comparison, and the disparity in portrayals is pretty telling.

Got around to watching the first episode. The protagonist sure likes to play his new Canon camera. Of the girls I liked Nonoka the best. Her calling him "Dartsie" and mentioing how he's never really stuck to a hobby is illuminating. I wonder who voices that character. The imouto Kanon was also cute too.

I sort of feel that the protagonist wanted to do more people photography than photography of places, and it didn't help that one of the Photo Club's members was hostile towards him joining. I suppose he could reform the sketchy Photography Club if he got a clue about how wrong he's going about things.

I haven't seen episode 2 yet, but Kazuya seems like a normal teenager other than he's a bit dense.

Yeah, I do agree on a bunch of the points made.

I can get that, as mentioned, the intention was probably to make him look better by having creeper characters around him like wingmen, but I really don't get that impression much, especially when you see his own perversion sneak out at times.

Spoiler for Episode 3 spoiler:

Each of the girls is fine, I like each of them in their own way (and I do like the pictures themselves). It's Kazuya I have trouble with, and when you have trouble with the one who's supposed to be the main lead, unable to really root for him, it makes enjoying the rest difficult. It sometimes feels like the girls are being used for nothing more than pretty props. Don't get me wrong, I fully expected there to be fan-service and not a huge and/or deep plot, but the way it's being done, outside of a few cliche moments (accidental breast grab and such), just feels a bit distasteful. He still could've been just as much, if not more of an enjoyable character by joining the Photo Club and actually taking photography seriously like Hikari while still getting similar fan-service opportunities in different, cleaner, ways.

I know he's meant to be like other cliche male protagonist leads, but just basing it off of Kazuya's actions and all. It just doesn't really feel right...
