Nah. When the manga was drawn, cell phones were extremely uncommon, and most people had land lines. In that version, she had left the house before he called, so no one was there to answer the phone. But today, especially in a country like Japan, cell phones are often the only type of phone people have. Since they were modernizing everything else, they had to explain this scene by showing that she forgot to take her phone with her.

I don't think it's unfair to say she had her in the clouds, so to speak, but she wasn't delusional....just stupidly in love. Love will make you take all kinds of risks, especially at a young age where you don't have the benefit of experience, you happen to live in a relatively safe society, and your youthful mind doesn't really grasp what mortality means.

Having witnessed first hand the horrible, horrible decision making abilities of young girls in love, Kana and her eventual end don't surprise me one bit. It doesn't make it any less sad, though.

Sad that this best girl has to suffer a tragic fate on this week's episode of Parasyte. Rest in peace, Kana!

That was a rather sad episode. It looks like Shinichi grew even stronger now. It is almost as if he is reaching the level of a full body Parasyte's strength.

So if bits and pieces of Migi are floating all over his body, does it mean that he will pass on parts of Migi to his offspring? I'd be scared for the mom if the baby is that strong, especially when she is giving birth.

There are no new episodes of Parasyte next week. The next episode will be in 2 weeks.

I didn't realize just how delusional Kana was until now. Migi was right, it was only a matter of time until she got killed following her silly fantasies. There unfortunately wasn't much Shinichi could have done to save her.

This is a perfect example of how Iwaaki uses his premise as a way to illuminate the human condition, especially as it comes to adolescence. If Shinichi’s merger with Migi is a metaphor for the transition out of childhood, I think Kana shows just how poor is the judgement of a teenaged girl in love - and what kind of trouble that can them into. She's a classic case, right down to love-love dreams with her hero riding in (naked) on a white horse to save her. The elaborate fiction she created around Shinichi was always going to be her doom - it was just a question of how it was going to find her.

Awwww, man! Kana's dead, totally forgot about her death from the manga. Or maybe I just didn't wanted to think about it given how cute they made Kana in the anime. Wanted her to have her little sad fairytale as dangerous as it was due her ability bringing her closer and closer to the parasyites.
I wonder if her love for Shinichi made her "power" so strong as before it was quite weaker. Would have wished her an other ending than this, but her story has been written a long time ago. But it is way sadder than back then when I read that as a teen. :C

Oh well, hopefully somebody gonna write a good Parasitye AU fanfic with ShinichixKana where she didn't died and stuff.^^

Well, I always have the impression Kana is the Gwen Stacy of Spidey Shinichi - nothing could be done about her death. But it would be interesting if she had survived: once she understood that everything Shinichi said was true, she could be a strong alliance of him with her special ability.

^ That's what I thought as how the direction of the story would go, luckily she would survive and become Shinichi's ally in defeating parasytes... and then Kana was stabbed. A bit of a wasted potential, but quite realistic given the circumstances.

Now I don't know if there is someone else with similar abilities with Kana appear later, but in any case I want to see how far this author would take a character with a natural-born telepathic abilities in this world alongside Shinichi who is originally normal but now codependently living with a real parasyte.

I think he was right in saying Kana left her cell phone on purpose. Original source aside.
Especially with her line about "I show you we have a connection" or other right after hanging up. She wanted to prove they had a connection like "See even without cellphones, we can find eachother"
Does a good job of modernizing the scene and using it to build Kana's character more strongly imo.

I felt that Kana being in love in Shinichi is the cause of it. But I think her ESP just made her more lovestruck. The series and myself see it as ESP, but given the parasytes, I think its like a buzz to Kana. Its like a biological thing.

Like parasytes use it to identify eachother. To Kana, its like a signal to "Come here" And she mixes that with her own interest with Shinichi, and along with the signal just amplifys how she feels about him. So I think she got drunk off the buzz a bit. And its why she got so obsessive about him.

That makes a really good fanfic...

Now I only have to wait for the magic of the internet.

I had a more down to earth idea about Kana. In my opinion she should have worked with the police and if I was Shinichi I would have tried to arrange for that to happen somehow.

Shinichi unfortunately has his hands tied (literally in case of his right hand). Migi will never agree to let Shinichi go to the police and tell them everything, because there's a very high risk that they will turn him into a test subject and\or force him to live apart from the society, if not worse.

Migi will also not agree to start an all out war against the parasytes. Not because he'd feel anything about killing them, but because that would mean exposing himself and his host to unnecessary risks.
Now that parasytes are organized, that would be a plain suicide.

In the end with the death of Kana Japan has just lost one of its potentially most powerful cards to fight the parasytes.

I agree with you, I also feel that the explanation given in the anime is that Kana purposely left her phone at home rather than simply forgetting it.

Solace, I agree with king12354 & HandofFate above regarding Kana deliberately left her cellphone. It’s quite obvious really, especially with her practically thinking “I’ll show you that I can sense you alone, and I hope you can sense me back” which kinda drives the idea into our heads that she want to rely on her powers alone to find him and to be felt by him (no more cellphones for her). The manga is another thing, but in this modern adaptation, that's pretty much how the story goes imo. This plot point isn’t bad at all. It makes a lot of sense actually given Kana’s character.

Truthfully Kana's death is Migi's fault.

If he'd trust Shinichi's judgement about who to trust with his existence Kana would have known Shinichi wasn't full of shit when he told her about his right hand, and would have known to avoid signals.

That said, "Migi handle the defense", *rips other parasytes heart out*. Was badass.

What makes me think is this:
"So because Kana is attractive she is called best girl despite ignoring Shinichi’s multiple warnings but Yuuko gets called stupid because she looks average."

I don't think anyone implied that the girls in this series were smart at all. The only awesome character in this show is shinichi. Maybe the only female worth is tamiya ryoko

But I'd still rather kana lives than murano. She is a way more interesting person than other girls.

Kana is best girls because she got abilities, and that could have made her useful if love have not blinded her, meanwhile Murano is "are u really shinichi??" all this time, in the context of the history, Kana is best girl by her ability, more decent dialogues and finally for some people, the looks.
Even when Kana wasnt in screen at the first couple of chaps, i wasn't very fond of Murano thb, with Kana I felt that she would be able to make the plot move, like how she did this last chap with Shinichi. Thats how I see it
edit: I followed thinking u were talking about Murano, but if it is Yuuko, then I would say that both were stupid, even with the difference of looks

I wasn't going to talk about glasses girl to begin with. She's a friend of murano and doesn't serve any other role in the story aside from confronting hideo. She is not special enough to be given attention and she didnt even die.

And I was not talking about Murano. Just pointing out how different two lovestruck teens arer treated when both do stupid things because of love, but one them is a beauty and the other girl is not.

Well, Kana ist dead because she didn't think about what she is doing. I just hope that Shinichi will not blame himself for what happened to her. And I don't think he can hide everything for much longer from his girlfriend. What he should learn from this tragedy with Kana is to tell Murano everything. If he wants to be together with her, she has the right to know how dangerous it is.
