Seven episodes in.

I'm starting to like these characters a lot more now that they've been given more focus. It was also pretty nice to see Aiko develop some actual usefulness for the combat despite that not even being her role.

I'm not surprised that Yuzuha turned out to be connected to Aiko but I'll still be annoyed if Aiko's entire history turns out to be fake (or if Aiko turns out to be a complete clone, brain and all). It certainly doesn't help that her name is literally how you pronounce A.I.C.O. Not exactly subtle there. And what with her now getting hurt the more they shoot the Matter, things just do not bode well for her. I genuinely like her so I just don't want her to suffer. I'll be flipping tables if she dies.

Cats out of the bag regarding Aiko being Matter bait, but I saw that coming as soon as Yuuya said they needed to keep it a secret so no surprises there either.

What I did find surprising was that lady on the antagonist side kicking the bucket like that in such an absurd anticlimax. Maybe she'll come back later or something...

I'm glad it got a happy ending, though its a shame copy Aiko (Aico?) couldn't live with her family, but at least she's able able to go to school and have a happy life of her own.

Technically, only 1 Aiko exists. AICO would be a hunted specimen because a spare body became sentient so she couldn't live with that family.

AICO had to develop a new identity and go to school hoping that no one finds out about her. Well... at least she got the highly paid researcher/mad scientist who promises to make a world for her to exist in. And...the ability to have a life and memories of her own.

Now I am confused about 1 point.
The Aiko at start of the series is the copy. So 100% synthetic. So how come at the end after exchanging brains the synthetic body with human brain had red blood?
At end shouldn't be synthetic body(start series) + human brain and the new synthetic body + synthetic brain?

No. Only her brain is synthetic. The body looks synthetic because it has a bit of synthetic matter that was added into it to fix it (remember that body had been involved in a car accident and was pretty damaged). Although it has some synthetic matter, it was still pretty much human.

AICO at the start of the series had fake brain and composite human body.

AICO at the end of series had fake brain and body. Aiko has human brain and composite human body and bleeds real blood. Maybe like everyone said earlier, it was the fake brain that made the matter in the composite body react. Or the amount of matter in her body was not enough for a human brain to react alone.

Dr. Yura had a human brain and 100% spare body and he reacted.

They needed to put the artificial brain back in the artificial body to end the Burst. Gummi just let AICO be revived after that.

Considering the ending showed what happened to everyone, including the 2 Aikos, I think they forgot to show what happened to Dr Yura. Did he go into hiding? Go back to his old body? Or reveal himself as a transplanted-brain person now?

I am pretty sure he is not trying to hide when he sent out the gift in his name.

Had they done it the normal way, AICO would've died right afterward. Having Gummi there allowed AICO to recreate the body she just gave to Aiko, so the both of them could coexist.

The gummi thing was kind of a cop out, honestly. Except for the guy that had a crush on her, they were all pretty shitty people who wanted to sacrifice her for them own convenience. That really pissed me off. I would have preferred for her to stay dead so all the motherfuckers would have to face the consequences of their actions.

You wouldn't have repeat viewings with that type of an ending.

Besides the public wouldn't have mourned her loss as it saved their skins and money-making industry that would have been lost when that area got torched by the military.

Well, I don't know about you but I'm not gonna watch it again either way. I just didn't really like the characters. I honestly thought they were a bunch of assholes without any redeeming qualities.

13 the Beginning has the most anime-style plot.
AICO is more Western style; like watching a Hollywood movie/miniseries.

I surprised they didnt show Yura's after story, although I assume he went back to being Dr Yura in his new body.

13 promises a sequel, while AICO is dead permanently
Malignant Matter is gone, after story is scrapped, sequel is impossible
What will all divers do now? Will Aico and Yura live normally? What about Yuzuha? Will Kazuki give up on Aico?
Important questions that will never get answered
Great anime but sadly ultimately forgottable

I don't know if you watched what I watched. The girls clearly wanted to save her, but were horribly conflicted because they knew the danger of failing to stop the Burst. The short-haired one even outright said she wanted to find a way to save everyone, near the end. It was pretty much only that one guy out of the four divers who was really being an asshole about the whole thing.

Yura x AICO. He's talking to her in the ending and someone is helping her with expenses. Yuzuha is a part of his experiments just like AICO was.
