[/Over-Nationalistic Malaysian History]

Sarcasm and overnationalism aside (which is sardonically ironic, as I'm Sabahan, and thus don't really give a shit about what happened to the Peninsula centuries ago), the average malaysian spends the ages of 9 to 17 being taught about the evil British who came, screwed over the Malays, and used the East India Company to gain footholds in this wonderful country. Hence my ability to recall it - afterall, the East India Company's most significant action in the US was the Boston Tea Party.

My point is simply that it has been done before, and can be done again. Space is dangerous, afterall, and we need escorts who can fight off pirates in heavy cruisers...

I said "now-irrelevant". As in today. Being defunct and out of business... they are most certainly irrelevant in today's world. And if you're going to bear a grudge on the activities of some dead company... well... that's not gonna get you anywhere.

8-years on that aspect of history? Oh boy...

But you're right. Corporate Power seeks more power, and it will happen again in the future where there exists some new "Wild West" out in space. At least, there won't be any native people to deal with in these space territories. Not until distant inhabited worlds are found...

In US history classes -- there's either little to no mention of the East India Company, but rather the focus is on the British Empire itself. And the Boston Tea Party was actually a good thing, as it spurned colonials to drive themselves towards Independence.

Large Ham Overdramatic-ness is easier to pull off and get across in person.

As I said, I'm from Sabah - generally the East India Company's actions were more to what is now West Malaysia, and frankly us Sabahans don't give a shit (at the same time, West Malaysians also don't give a shit to Sabah, so the sentiment is returned). It does, however, make for good stirring up by our politicians, so they can try and distract the Malaysian in the street from endemic corruption and institutional racism.

tl;dr: Goose was trying to be an Overdramatic Large Ham to showcase his sarcasm, but thanks to the filter of the internet, the intent was misinterpreted for a sincere belief in the crap he was sprouting, which is his own damn fault.

Pretty much. History, as taught in Malaysia, is decidedly anemic about the rest of the world, and quite lacking in a little thing called "objective perspective."

Which they will screw over for monetary gain, since history is quite clear on how often that scenario happens.

Oh, I agree - never said it was a bad thing. Probably explains why Americans switched to coffee rather than tea. Then again, Europe drinks more coffee than tea, excepting Russia and England.

Considering the vastness of space, there are bound to be places outside of national lines. That or just too many planets, stellar clusters, and deep space outposts to police for the Galactic Empire. Thus you get companies that can police their own traffic. Especially those that are potentally the largest of them.

Another space opera analogy would be the Space Defense Forces used by the Galaxy Railways in the Galaxy Express 999 Universe. Were the Galaxy Railways itself operates as a governmental body over there own interstellar rail system.

The other girls probably picked up on the yuri vibes long before and happy to have their suspicion confirmed. But poor naive Marika is going to need Chiaki to explain what Yuri is later in their cabin. Probably with a hands on demonstration. Giggity.

Gravity controls on the Bentenmaru must have gone out...though it looks more like they turned them off, since they look to be having fun.
