So, I hate tragedies and all.. I like to end any series on a high note, if possible.

So, I was wondering, if someone could suggest those anime/manga which are depressing or tragic in the end?

Now, just to clear up the meaning, it is when very important character dies or there is a separation of couples. Or if there exists an anime/manga, where neither of those two happen, but the ending is really depressing.

And I did ask this question elsewhere and also received comments like the series is depressing, but still awesome. For these series, do add them here, but just make a side point, if they are actually good, despite being depressing/tragic.

This is kind of a safety list of those anime/manga, I should avoid.

Kimi ga Nozomu Eien (just awful and depressing throughout)
Shen Diao Xia Lu (not in the end, but a few episodes in something happens that made me want to physically rend the anime to bits)
Berserk
Blue Drop
Texhnolyze

manga:
H2 (this one made me depressed for days so it sticks out... there've been a lot of others that I deleted immediately in disgust but I can't really recall what they are, lol)

As per your request, I have made a side point for animes that I think is depressing but still worth watching.

Ga Rei Zero-Depressing but good
Kurenai
Hakuouki
Shounen Onyoumji
Trinity Blood
Kōtetsu Sangokushi
Madoka-Depressing but good
Nabari no Ou
Ayashi No Ceres
Blood+-Rather depressing end, but a good anime nevertheless. Highly recommended.

Chrono Crusade
Air-Depressing end but good
RomeoxJuliet
Guilty Crown
Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom-Depressing end but good anime
Mawaru Penguindrum-Depressing end but good
Saikano-Depressing end but good
School Days
Casshern Sins-for this, different ppl have different opinion. IMO, it's a depressing ending. It's a good anime, so do watch it.
Jigoku Shoujo
Sola-Depressing end but good

I might also add Persona Trinity Soul to the list. Reason: depressing characters, depressing story, depressing ending, and to some extent also depressing action (yes I know this series isn't really action-oriented but those persona battles could've been done A LOT better).

Angel Beats. It's a heartwarming series but each of the character's back story have a tragic and depressing past added to them.

Edit: There's also Kowarekake no Orgel. The ending really left me depressed.

Paranoia agent there is some bits in it that makes you feel sick and drained after you watch it, absolutely great OP though

Katanagatari - Depressing end but very good
Fate/Zero - Depressing end but very good
Kannazuki no Miko - Depressing end but only suggested if you're into yuri

Depressing but good... 100% Ga-Rei Zero and Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom.

Rainbow: Nisha Rokubou no Shichinin are depressing series but with light of hope. Though not everyone had very happy endings. Some just had to accept things.

Air were a bit weird series but ending seriously got me and Misuzu is probably the only cute/clueless character that I ever cared about.

AnoHana are nice series. Ending is not negative but I can't call it positive either.

Chrno Crusade had sad ending and memorable one too.

Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica ending is not overly happy.

Aoi Bungaku series are set of small stories. Some better than other but all ending are negative.
