Multilingual Seiyu/Voice Actor appreciation thread
I decided to put this up since there are seiyus/voice actors who can fluently speak multiple languages (Whether bilingual/trilingual for instance) and I sort of appreciate this talent in voicework.
First example I know is of Sayaka Ohara, who can speak good English with no accent. I even listened to her demo on this.

Obligatory Sketchbook video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gzqGuJY3qc I wouldn't say Yuuko Gotou's English is perfect, but that video is a lot better than a lot of what I've heard. Perhaps not surprising since she apparently studied to be a translator for a while before going into voice acting. There's also Miyuki Sawashiro, who has done the English dub for one of her characters at least once: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=70C_wz_cMSs

No they're not, unless you mean most VA are monolingual, a Japanese VA that is able to speak more than one language is rare and I only know a few of them, some of them are already mentioned. There is also Haruna Ikezawa who speaks French fluently if I recall correctly.

Satoshi Hino speaks English well since he was born in California and used to live there before.
Junichi Suwabe can speak English too. You heard him in Fate/stay night. And also Yuki Kaida who I've read that she studied in the US before and can speak multiple languages. |

The one that I first learned about is Nami Miyahara.
She speaks (almost) perfect English as Momoko Asuka (Mo~tto Ojamajo Doremi) and very good German as Aisha Aldola (Sora no Woto) as well. Given that she's lived in Austria for a few years and studied English there, I think it's safe to say she's officially trilingual.

I wouldn't say Asakawa Yuu is fluent in English. Her pronunciation is very good, but she does have some trouble understanding English and what she can say on the spot is a bit limited. She is continuing to study, though and her level of English ability is pretty high compared to most Japanese people (in general). This is based on a conversation I had with her at Anime Expo last year; I even asked why her pronunciation was so good and she said (after my question was translated a bit) it was the result of a lot of hard work and study. |

If I ever hear a Japanese VA who actually sounds good speaking English I'll be very surprised. Usually they just sound like they've got a sock stuffed in their mouths, not nice at all .
As an aside, I find American pronounciation of certain Japanese related terms a bit weird, particularly the A in Anime, Manga and Otaku. Always using an "Awe" whereas across the Atlantic we use an "ah" as in actress, type sound. To my mind this also sounds more like the original pronounciation as well. Aw (awnime, Otawku, mawnga like the vid above) sounds wrong. |

Why do seiyuu sound so bad when speaking English? They sound so nice otherwise... |
