Is not and stop saying that, Jealousy and Envy are entirely different.

The two are so mixed up in today's world hardly anyone knows the difference.

Similar to how people don't know how to use Irony or when people use the phrase, "which begs the question."

Stop with this bullshit, the same discussion took place here at the start of the series and even the adaptation proved that everyone thinking the witch of Envy has something related to Jealousy is wrong, also the people who actually read the source material did the same to stop a possible misunderstanding thanks to that crap.

They both means the same shit, wanting something that belongs to another, the only difference is that Jealousy carries a negative connotation. While being envious doesn't.

I'd say they both carry some very negative connotations, mate.

Wrong, again. What you described was Envy. Jealousy is the fear that something that belongs to you may be taken from you.

And seriously? Envy doesn't carry a negative connotation? It's one of the Seven Deadly Sins! What the hell are you on? Jealousy is the one that doesn't carry a negative connotation, as long as it's not taken too far. There's a reason Envy is a sin and Jealousy is not.

Nope, jealousy means you feel something YOURS is threatened by others (and it's not negative if you are actually right)

Envy means you want take away something belonging to OTHERS (which is always negative).

To put it simply you are wrong on every account

Edit: lol even Homer Simpson knows better

Depending on context, envy and jealousy can be considered the same thing. They can also be different. Words tend to have more than one meaning. To say they are synonymous is not wrong, because they are considered synonyms of eachother, but context does matter.

And now everyone here got baited by the same bullshit, seems like the discussion on early episodes where a mod needed to stop it wasn't enough, or the intervention of users who knows about the source.

This is just silly, considering how that's not even a question on Re:Zero.

It's a triggering topic for Re:zero fans after all, and obviously people have to correct someone when they're wrong, especially on the internet.
That Homer video is right even further though; along with Homer, Lisa demonstrated that nobody actually cares enough that they're different and is used synonymously in daily life by everyone.

That might be the case in general, but in context of this show it's going to be kind of an issue later. Still not as bad as translating "Sword Saint" as "Master Swordsman" which is flat out wrong since the later has differnet kanji. C.R. just seems to making this harder for themselves and I don't know why. *shrug*

There is no context in which they mean the same thing. There is context in which both occur at the same time but are still separate. They are two entirely different concepts.

http://www.dictionary.com/browse/jealous
"characterized by or proceeding from suspicious fears or envious resentment:"
"often postpositive and foll by of. resentful (of) or vindictive (towards), esp through envy: a child jealous of his brother"

Yeah, yeah, but in this particular case, the original argument was about Emilia feeling jealousy over maybe losing Subaru to Rem. Not jealousy as a synonym to envy, but the other one.

This is pretty much the reason why Merriam-Webster among others added a second definition to the word 'literally' which is essentially the opposite of the original one and yes it hurts every time I see it.

Just because an expression has been used so often in a different context than it was intended to doesn't mean that the definition changes to something else. Envy and Jealousy are different concepts and definitely not synonymous.

actually the more people use a word wrong the more likely it is for dictionaries to accept the words usage in a certain way, at which point the wrong usage becomes right.

As very sad but real truth

Problem is lot of meaning get lost that way and thus it shouldn't be supported just because laziness.

Thanks for the preview. It looks promising. Atleast the fight with the Witch cult will finally start.
