Elizabeth tries to fend him off with an Ark, but the spell proves ineffective against Esta's powers of darkness! Soon, the two archangels Tarmiel and Sariel attack the Commandment together in order to avenge the fallen Mael, but Esta easily takes the both of them down! The archangels' host bodies are consumed by the darkness, but in response, it seems that they both transform into their original angelic forms.....!!!

Why did they even need human hosts for if they can use their original form? Or is it actually more of a transformation and the hosts are actually fine?

Yeah, it could just be that the hosts' bodies were transformed. Maybe that way they can be saved from Estarossa's darkness. But it could also be that the hosts' bodies were destroyed which forced the archangels to go use their original bodies. I hate this option, though, since it'd mean Ludociel's host is dead which I don't want (Margaret, right? Really don't want her to die).

The spoiler wasn't very clear about that (all it said is that they went back to their "original forms"), but if I had to make a personal guess, it probably IS the transformation angle. Like maybe it's some sort of power-up that makes their true bodies manifest for a limited time or something. At the very least, I feel that would make sense as to why TWO archangel avatars lost together against Estarossa, IMO....

But thinking again about what we recently learned about his powers of darkness (and Monspiet's warning of how it made him unstable), maybe Esta's dark powers are uniquely suited to taking down the archangels? If so, that could explain how he was able to kill Mael in the past, even if they fought in the daytime. Of course, that leaves the problem of how he still lost against Escanor earlier.... unless his particullar brand of darkness is less effective against humans? Ah, so confusing.....

I'm thinking that Estarrosa will be the next demon to fall pray to his own commandment like Galan did. I mean truth be told with Escanor coughing up blood and him apparently being invincible and unstoppable, it's the only way I can see him going down.

technically he did with his first battle with escanor he got angry at the end when he was losing.

Angry is one thing, but the opposite of Love is Hate. My guess is he has to outright say that he hates something like 100% in emotion and demeanor for it to backfire.

He probably hates his father for looking down on him, comparing him with his two genius brothers and lastly, for giving him the Commandment that seems to be irrelevant to the demons.

Or he simply hates losing from his memories of being looked down on, and the thought of losing to Escanor again is too much for him.

Other than that, I'm more interested in the effects of the Commandment's backfiring. Would it make him unable to fight anymore or would it make him even crazier ??

A lot of dictionaries use hate as love's antonym. But in truth it's like @Kuroageha said. The text below its just a proper explanation that I searched just to put here. I have read this argument a lot explaining why love and hate aren't antonym.

Indifference and Apathy! Most people consider the antonym of love being hate, but that is not the case because love and hate are both derived from the same basic emotion…passion, whereas indifference and apathy are derived from the lack of passion, which is the opposite of love.

I don't mind if it's hate or indifference, though I'm leaning more towards the former since to the best of my knowledge, for as long as we've seen him, even if he says he feels certain ways and does certain things, Estarossa always had that indifferent look about him.

I don't see any of the remaining commandments who still have their mark dying from going against their title and based on Monspiet's explanation, if it's going to happen one more time at least, Estarossa's the best bet. Wait...I forget, do Zeldoris and Meliodas' pedophile masters have commandments or the like placed on them?

^Nope, unless theirs are special Commandment, TEN commandment should be clear enough that they do not have them.

Yeah, Zeldoris and Meliodas' masters don't have decrees of their own. They're just really OP. Which is scary because they'd be even more OP if they had decrees.

Oh, I just remember one of the Archangels had 3 heads during the first Great War. That means the forms they changed to during this chapter is not their original forms, but more like unleashing they powers.
