Macross Frontier has a ton of rock/pop concert scenes...really good stuff that's synchronized with the action scenes. Just check out the first episode to get a feel for it.
Nodame Cantible would be an obvious choice here. Mostly classical concerts and piano competitions. NANA and Beck are also obvious choices for rock concerts. I know there's also a bunch of anime series about pop idols out there but I'm drawing blanks at the moment. Someone else is going to have to fill in the blanks for me. |

Utau's concerts in Shugo Chara are plot important.
Mermaid Melody Pitchi Pitchi Pitch has the characters defeat water demons by singing. Several times these are disguised as concerts. La Corda d'Oro has the characters participate in a classical music concours plus there are several other concerts. Ringo holds an outdoor concert in one episode of Angelic Layer. Aya Asea performs a concert in an arc in Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro (episode10). Oruha performs at Clover Bar in Oto Country in Tsubasa Chronicle. Petite Princess Yucie has the candidates perform a concert in episode 21. |

Full Moon o Sagashite - about a girl becoming a pop idol (singer) and there are quite a few concerts. the music was nice even if she sings the same couple songs over and over

Yes. On "Lucky Star" they go to one of Aya Hirano's live concerts in which she sings "God Knows..". The same song that she (as Haruhi) sings on "Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu". T'is not the whole song though but other than Haruhi that is the only other one that I can think of.

Seconding Macross Frontier, La Corda d'Oro, Full Moon o Sagashite. Gundam Seed(Action/Mecha), Gundam Seed Destiny(Action/Mecha), Da Capo series(Romance), Seto no Hanayome(Comedy/Romance) have some concert scenes but the series themselves aren't completely concert oriented.

What are you looking for exactly? Anime where the concert performance scenes are detailed? Nodame Cantabile would disappoint by using too much stills during musical performances. With Beck, you'll like it if you like punk, just don't expect much flash and shred.
For entertainment value, Galaxy Angel is great during performance episodes. Chance Pop Sessions had some interesting pop stuff going on. Macross Frontier has Sheryl and Yoko Kanno. |

Eh, if what you're into is punk.
Otherwise, the best music anime out there in terms of technical and artistic merit and emotional impact is without rival Yoko Kanno's score of the Vision of Escaflowne. Even she hadn't done anything that good since. |

Nobody mentioned Marmalade Boy, yet. I absolutely love the series! One of the characters, Kei Tsuchiya, is a talented pianist.
Then, there is this scene. |
