They certainly stand out from the Hyrule grunts to think they aren't important characters. Actually one of them looks a lot like Skyward Sword Impa.
The Warriors games have a number of different models for NPCs, and these are just the version for this game. If they had more playable characters to show, Koei probably wouldn't have featured only Link in their trailer.

Zelda is a lot more marketable though. I doubt that it'll matter much since this game will flop anyways. At least it's an interesting attempt at different kinds of games on the Wii U. I don't know if it's going to do anything for non-Nintendo fans though.

new scan

Okay time for this thread to stop being dead.

Batch of new info from GAF:

Quote:
-August 14th
-Retail - 7,980 yen, eShop - 6,980, Premium Box Set - 11,664
-Premium set comes with a Triforce shaped clock, and serial codes for 6 special costumes.
-Will also be a 'Treasure Box' version available on Amazon and Tecmo Koei's online store 'GAMECITY', but no details yet on what it includes.
-Developed by ωForce, Team NINJA, supervised by Aonuma.
-Story is Link an in-training soldier must rescue the Princess Zelda from the witch Shia who has been turned evil somehow.
-2 player mode where one person is on the GamePad, while another is on the TV. When playing alone the GamePad acts as a menu.
-Equipping different weapons onto characters will change the way they fight, including speed focused one-handed swords to heavier weapons that focus on damage.
-Weapon upgrade system and character growth/improvement
-Musou action combined with the Zelda series' Z-targeting means you can avoid attacks and focus on enemy weak spots.
-Zelda series' spin attack appears instead of the Musou Ranbu (?) of the musou franchise.
-Bombs make an appearance, won't just be used for throwing at enemies.
-Impa, a captain of the Royal Army, appears as a playable character wielding a giant long sword.
-Several other characters are playable too. Aonuma was surprised by how many.
-Playable at E3.
-Development is 70% complete.

ω-Force & Team NINJA are the specific developers of Hyrule Warriors.

Download copy will be cheaper than the retail copy, but at around 10,000 yen, there's apparently a premium box to be for sale. (Prices aren't clear. Retail starts with a 7, Download with a 6 and Premium with a 10. I doubt it's a round number)

The magazine has an interview with producers Koinuma Hisashi & Hayashi Yosuke and the supervisor, Eiji Aonuma.
Quote:
Producer: Hisashi Koinuma, Yosuke Hayashi
Supervisor: Eiji Aonuma
Developer: ω-Force・Team NINJA

Link sets off to rescue Princess Zelda, who has been kidnapped by the evil witch Shia.

The magazine introduces Link, Impa, Shia, and some of her minions.

Location includes Hyrule Field

Interview with the three people above. Says there's some unexpected playable characters.

So who wants to bet Shia is being brainwashed? The helmet/mask design would be a pretty big giveaway, and it would be an easy plot twist to have another mastermind (e.g. Ganon) be the real final boss.

be my second game to pick up when i get my Wii U along with Super Smash Bro.

Koei seems very busy this year!

I see there's no Cia screenshots on the main site.

Who wants to bet Nintendo of America will censor her outfit somehow?

One of the things I read said that she seems to be influenced from some external source. Honestly the story is rarely important in a musou game so it's ok to be obvious about it. Personally I think it's more interesting that she became evil because she was jealous Zelda got to be around Link all the time.

Well, they said the jealously caused a weakness within her that allowed some evil force to consume her that caused her to turn evil. So it was an unwilling change as far as we know.

But yeah, I do like the story so far. Also Ganondorf is not likely to be involved, if the timeline theory is correct on this game, it takes place some time after Skyward Sword but before Ocarina of time, which means it's before Ganon existed.

I thought the game was explicitly said to not be part of the canon universe other than using it as a setting?

Eiji just said it's not a main Zelda game, because a main Zelda game is being made along side it.

Eiji is directing this game though, so the possibility of the story being canonical is strong.

Edit:

Also this image was released recently, its apart of the story showing the sky loft of Skyward Sword, falling down.

On a side note

Aversa who is much racier than Cia wasn't censored so I wouldn't be worried about her being censored
