Look kinda low budget, even for the animated adaptation of a game that have been mostly talking heads and EPIC CORNERED REACTIONS.

Can I just say it straight? It looks VERY cheap. I suspected it, because of the very budget cast, full of cheaper sound-alikes of traditional seiyuus, but it seems that budget for this abysmall.
Considering timeslot and studio I'm afraid we're in for another Denpa Kyoshi rather then another Magic Kaito.
And yes, Yuuki Kaji sounds absolutely unfitting as Phoenix, just as everyone were expecting.

Kaji and Aoi Yuki are hardly what I'd call cheap... I was expecting better from the trailer, though.

But that's exactly the example of budget casting: "two famous, but not VERY pricey seiyuus as the main leads, and cheaper seiyuus for the rest".

I'm really not feeling that "Objection" or the animation quality...I was expecting this was going to look a lot better, and cleaner, then what's shown here .

And it feels kinda odd to get just a small commercial for the anime instead of a longer PV .

I'm never going to get used to Maya's eyes in this .

If I were to judge by that PV alone then I must echo AntonKutovoi here: it looks cheap. Like Toei-cheap. It reminds me o the recent cheap-looking Kindaichi Case series. Heck, even kiddy shows that currently airing like Brave Beats looks better animated in comparison .

I was skeptical when I heard Kaji Yuki was cast for this but decided to withhold my opinion in case he did something different for the role... Turns out he didn't. Either way, I'm probably not going to check this out after all. It looks cheap, as people here have said. Like, for little kids cheap. :/

Yep, it's really silly to blame A-1 for a lack of budget, blame the production company. I mean if CYGAMES (and partners) gives A-1 a massive budget for Grand Blue Fantasy that airs later this year whereas Capcom (and partners) gives A-1 f-all for Ace Attorney, how exactly are A-1 at fault?

And I really don't get the hate for A-1 since they're usually above average at the minimum and they can up their level by heaps depending on the project. A studio that puts out material like ERASED, Space Brothers, Shin Sekai Yori, Tsuritama etc are not terrible.

Aaaaand here comes the first anime mistake... defense and persecution are on the wrong sides... defense was on the RIGHT side when looking from the audience in the original games. You usually see them on the "left" side in the games, but that's from the perspective of the judge.

I hope this kind of mistakes won't continue...

I would imagine it would be since it's covering 2 of the games around 26 episodes.

I'm not very impressed by the animation style of the show but the style of it seems interesting enough.

OP song is also okay. We got a case already and so far, it's looking alright. Ryuuichi can seriously be such a silly guy in this show. In the meantime, I kinda like the tension crafted for the face-offs. Yeah, most of the episode takes place in the courtroom so that was pretty spot on. Not bad for the first episode, looking forward to more. I hope the OST improves a bit though.

OP is terrible, the vocals and the 'chain' show A-1 knows exactly who they're pandering to

I'll hold off on criticisms regarding the pacing since this was only the first case and we needed to fly through it, but I hope they give the other scenarios some breathing room. As for VAs, Yuki Kaji was a poor choice for Naruhodo. He's using his Eren voice which doesn't suit Naruhodo's demeanor at all. At least Chihiro was on point.

The BGM needs more prominence. It didn't have much impact in this episode, and if the show continues with its breakneck pacing it might not get the chance to shine during crucial moments.

Despite the initial disappointment, the easter eggs from future games were a nice touch. Maybe side characters who won't get any dedicated screentime can at least make a cameo.
