I have also thought about that idea, I back when the anime is still airing I expect Haruto to activated his vampire-mode while piloting. Hito will crystallized the enemies's machine and than disintegrate while leaving behind rune which Hito will take in. In fact I was so sured of the vampire-mode being this anime seed-mode or innovator-mode with the eye thingy but disappointed that it wasn't like that. Though taking in rune won't give him any memories.
