Star Ocean 5: Integrity and Faithlessness [PS4, PS3]

And from out of nowhere.... (oh hey, the MC actually has something resembling a sensible name this time around!)

Quote:
Star Ocean 5 announced for PS4, PS3 [Update]

Star Ocean 5 is in development for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3, the latest issue of Famitsu reveals.

A release date is still unannounced, but the game is developed by tri-Ace and published by Square Enix.

Thanks, Hachima Kikou.

Update 6:08 a.m.: More details have leaked via Famitsu. The game’s full title is Star Ocean 5: Integrity and Faithlessness. It is set on the uncivilized planet of Feycreed, which is 6,000 light years away from Earth.

Currently revealed characters include:
  • Fedel Camus (voiced by Kaito Ishikawa) – The protagonist. He specializes at fencing, and protects the order of his village.
  • Miki Sorvesta (voiced by Nao Toyama) – The heroine. She is the protagonist’s childhood friend, and loves him like an older brother.
  • Lilia (voice actor unknown) – A girl who lost both her memories and emotions.

The magazine also has screenshots of a blonde swordsman and blue-haired witch participating in battle.

Battles are seamless and in real-time. Depending on the distance between you and the enemy, the way you attack changes, and pushing buttons consecutively will trigger combos.

In addition to traditional event scenes, there will also be “seamless events” such as those where enemies attack you. If the enemy apprehends your allies during these events, there will be branching outcomes.

Here’s the game’s staff:
  • Developer: tri-Ace
  • Character Designer: Akira “Akiman” Yasuda
  • Producer: Shuichi Kobayashi
  • Director: Hiroshi Ogawa
  • Lead Programmer: Yoshiharu Gotanda

Thanks, Hachima Kikou.

Yeah the game model really reminds me of SO4. Is it the same engine?

Anyway hype!

Lol specialise in mamoru-ing.

This really came out of nowhere, the only star Ocean I played was 4 so hopefully this is a return to the form I've heard about.

Well, I wouldn't say out of no where but im stoked. I was worried Tri-Ace wouldn't be back for this, glad my fears are eased.

Hopefully this will be better than the previous SO, Star Ocean 2 was pretty amazing but the latter series hasn't really gave me the same vibe since.

While I understand why Tri-Ace still release the game on the PS3 (not many have upgrade to the PS4 in Japan), I just hope they will give a bit more care and support for the PS4 version (better graphic, framerate...etc.. )

BTW the gematsu article has updated with even more info which includes a mini interview between the producer and main programmer (and also the brainchild of the series) as well as higher quality Famitsu scans (sorf of still in parts). Your can see some other what are assume main party members.

Interesting enough there is rumor floating that this takes place between SO2 and SO3 which means technically it's another prequel. They really don't want any games set after SO3 do they?

Anyway so chronologically:

SO4>SO1>SO2>SO5>SO3.

So Claude and co from SO2 could potentially appear here.

Doesn't look like it unfortunately, but it doesn't look any worse than SO4 so I'll take it.

Well that's good news to hear. Was wondering what might happen with Star Ocean, but glad they are working on Star Ocean 5.

Certainly thought 4 was not that good, but I think they can definitely make another great game with this setting so let's see what happens.

I'm just glad to hear this is in the works. The characters look nice. If they want to take some cues from SO3 I think that's an ok move, it was a good game so no issues there.

You can't really have a game chronologically after 3 with the metaphysical mess that was the major twist. In fact I would say that playing the rest of the games retrospectively with SO3 in mind kind of feels... weird?

Am still stoked for this game in any case. Putting it between 2 and 3 seems to be the best place to be chronologically, especially since the focus seems to be a planet not yet aligned with the Earth Federation.

The cool thing here is there is a huge 400 year gap of time between SO2 and SO3. Plenty of things could have happened.

In reference known time periods of the games so far:
  • Star Ocean: The Last Hope: 0010 SD
  • Star Ocean: First Departure (past events): 0046 SD
  • Star Ocean: First Departure: 0346 SD
  • Star Ocean: Second Evolution: 0366 SD
  • Star Ocean: Blue Sphere: 0368 SD
  • Star Ocean: Till the End of Time: 0772 SD

Roughly most of games in this have usually been about a decade of generation from each other.

Took the words out of my mouth.

It's sad though she's a symbologist, as Reimi's playstyle last game was pretty darn fun.
