@SquirrelLuvsPnut: Despite having a vast world, Touhou is pretty easy to understand. Just play the games in order (starting from EoSD), check the other official material done by ZUN and avoid any secondary stuff, and you'll understand everything about Touhou.

Back on topic, it makes me really glad that this anime falls into the doujin category. It seems that ZUN kept his promise, after all.

Looking at the trailer, this project has some pretty good animation, despite being unofficial. It's not exactly on KyoAni level, but still, it's far better than what we've had until now. Hopefully, we'll also get a good plot together with the animation.

I don't really care about what kind of storyline they come up with, as long as they stick close to the canon. Inserting all kinds of fanon stuff would just ruin this project, in my opinion.

It is so confusing, mainly because the fandom has evolved miles away from Zun's canon. I think the best way to get into it is to play the games (I'm playing the very first, that one for PC-88, right now). I've heard rumors that a good part of the Touhou fandom has never played a Touhou game, but I dunno.

I doubt that watching this anime will give a good grasp on Touhou, unless you have no time/patience to play the hard as heck games.

the best way too really understand it is too play the game but sometimes even if you played it but can't understand it like me ( I played it soon as it's release so it's 100% japanese and I can't wait for the translated games ) there really isn't much to miss. They usually just had a cup of tea and had party.

Though I only see this tenchu guy in lucky star selling anime goods. If it's plot and it's a doujin I wonder if his goods would be selled in gensokyo or tenchu would visit gensokyo to sell his stuff.

The doujin anime by Maikaze was approved by His Holiness, on the basis that it will remain doujin. But yes, it's most definitely a marketing ploy by Animate

Yah, he'd only disapprove if it were an official anime. But I thought he meant only enthusiasts and fans could make anime of Touhou, not official companies just calling it doujin.

Official anime usually implies that the anime is intended to be fully distributed through either retail, television, or theater and sold as an actual product. This here is a glorified commercial.

Yah seems so. Just a commercial for Broccoli, or whatever company Anime Tenchou represents. Using the current fad to help advertise, a technique as old as time. Will still watch though.
